re: Feedback on different Self-Drive rental agencies

Any suggestions for the trusted and tried self drive rental options in Pune, kindly share. Planning to drive from Pune to Diveagar next week (24-26 May) with family of 3. I tried Zoom car and Revv but options available are all petrol car, no diesel car been shown.

Check out MyChoize. I and my brother have used their rental cars across Pune, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and I’ve found them to be (decently) well maintained and mostly niggle free.

Barring one instance in Delhi back in February 2020 when the car I rented (I think a KUV100) had an A/C issue, cars have been in good shape. Have tried Crysta in Pune(smoooth, it was), XUV500(smooth enough) in Mumbai and last year a Nexon diesel in Bangalore(smooth enough by my brother’s review).

While I can’t say much about their Pune setup right now, definitely worth a consideration.

*Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with any Car-rental service. This recommendation is based purely on my experience with MyChoize Rentals.*

I checked the website and found the charges decent. Was there any hassles in the refundable deposit return? I will be using the self drive rentals for the first time. Do they video record the car before handover or should I?

I have been a frequent user of self drive vehicles in Pune. Earlier used zoomcar when they had their own vehicles. Have been using Revv and Mychoize from last many years and have had good experience with both of them. I would suggest you check both of them out and their policies.

For Mychoize they have a separate damage sheet for each category of the vehicle and each of the panels affected. I have never had any incident so had to never pay anything. But once my brother in law was here from US and they had a scratch on the door panel. He was charged flat Rs. 2500 + 28% GST which itself amounted to some 29xx which was adjusted from the Rs. 3000 deposit paid. For my trips, I have always received an automatic refund within a week or so. I never had to follow up for the refund of the security deposit.

For Revv, they had a policy that if you complete 3 trips with them without an incident, security deposit is waived off for the subsequent trips. So I am not charged any security deposit now.

re: Feedback on different Self-Drive rental agencies

Posting my experience of different self drive rentals I have used to travel in and around Pune. I have also listed down some of the points that I take care of when renting a self drive vehicle based on my experience and learnings.

- Always keep a video recording of the vehicle exterior and interior before taking the delivery of the vehicle. Make sure to include roof, underbody, wheel arches etc as much as possible
- Keep a photo/video of the Odometer which clearly shows the fuel level, current kilometers etc
- I tend to keep all the photos and videos at least till a month after the trip end date
- Make sure the vehicle documents are in order. Especially a valid insurance, PUC and a fast-tag with balance.
- Make sure the vehicle has proper tools, spare tire in good condition and a jack
- If you are not familiar with the vehicle, make sure you understand how to open the fuel lid, type of fuel, how to open bonnet etc

Zoomcar:
- I was a very big zoomcar user upto 2019. Vehicle condition used to be a hit or miss
- Majority of the experience had been good and refunds were also on time mostly
- They had a speed limit of 125km/hr. Above which they had fines over and above any traffic fines
- As of now they are working on the aggregator model
- People list their personal white board cars
- Legality and insurance in case of an incident are still an unknown

Selfdrive.in
- They had a pickup location near Sancheti Hospital in Pune
- Have used their services a couple of times in 2016
- On both the instances, vehicles were fitted with a speed governor with a limit of 80km/hr. It felt more of a rev limiter. Vehicle felt underpowered on Lonavala ghats.
- They had a mix of white board and black and yellow plate vehicles

Revv
- Black and yellow board vehicles
- Always received clean vehicles and vehicle condition was also good
- Refunds were always on time without any follow-ups
- They also had a policy that if you complete 3 trips without any incident with them, security deposit for subsequent trips is waived off. I am not charged any security deposit now.
- Once I had booked an Creta AT from them and I failed to notice it did not have a fast tag. Realized this only when pointed out by toll staff at a toll booth. Had to pay double amount in cash at all the toll booths. I raised this on the customer care number and was informed that once I submit the toll receipts, all the amount will be refunded. True to their word, I received the full refund without any follow-up after I submitted the receipts at the end of the trip.

MyChoize
- Black and Yellow board vehicles
- Always received clean vehicles and vehicle condition was also good
- They need your driving license, Aadhar and PAN as well for booking
- Have always booked for home delivery and the vehicle has been always delivered on time
- They charge 18% gst on everything including your rental, fast-tag, extra kms covered, damages etc.
- No specific speed limit mentioned in terms and conditions
- They share a panel wise damage sheet based on the category of the vehicle. No upper limit mentioned in terms and conditions for user liability in case of any incident. Plus user needs to bear some % of the daily rental amount for the amount of time the vehicle spends in the workshop over and above the damage.

Happy to answer any specific questions.

re: Feedback on different Self-Drive rental agencies

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to find a reliable self drive option in Bhubaneshwar, for a 5 day trip to Balasore. I've used Revv in the past, and have had good experiences, but it seems they don't have any cars in Bhubaneshwar.

I see that there are some private cars available via Zoomcar, but i've been reading some negative reviews here about it.

Any other options I could look into?

Thanks!

Need some help with vehicle rentals in Delhi or Chandigarh for our upcoming trip to Ladakh & Zanskar in August. I need some reliable contacts who can rent (Self Drive) a "White" plated 4x4 preferably a Toyota Fortuner, Scorpio N 4x4 or similar car which can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and luggage.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

(PS: PM me if you want to share the contacts in confidence)

I booked an Ertiga, on Revv (Bangalore) for the upcoming weekend. While the prices were slightly higher than Mychoize (by 5-10%), I found Revv to be user-friendly and straightforward. Mychoize did not even let me sign up. The OTP to sign up has still not been sent to my mobile.
Revv has an ecom style experience. Where you add the vehicle to cart and then proceed. I shortlisted and then decided to hunt for better offers elsewhere, meanwhile I received a call from a Revv representative offering a discount of INR 500 and encouraging me to complete the booking. To avoid spending more time on it, I accepted the offer and made an initial payment of INR 1,500. The booking was confirmed using a Razorpay link sent to my email and the app.

I have asked the vehicle to be delivered to my home at 5:00 AM, I will be highly suprised if they manage to do this at 5:00. I'll share more details about my experience once the ride is over

I agree, the app experience of Revv is a lot better than MyChoize.

Before COVID, Revv guys used to deliver the vehicle to me previous night itself in case of early morning bookings in Pune.

Wishing you a happy trip!

re: Feedback on different Self-Drive rental agencies

Hi Everybody,
I am looking for self drive rental cars in Ahmedabad. Found few options in https://www.justdrive.co.in/ and revv.

Has anybody in this forum used their services recently? Or any other reliable local vendors? If so, please share your feedback. That will be helpful. Thanks

Any thoughts on Wowcarz in Bangalore? Their prices seem competitive, but their reviews seem manufactured so I'm a bit wary.
