I'm guessing the roads till Shenkotta will be TN highways ( read 4-6 lanes). |
It is a 4-lane road only upto Thirumangalam where you turn off on towards Rajapalayam/Shenkotta, and from there on it is a 2 lane highway even in Tamilnadu.
Those roads are generally good, but I've found the Thirumangalam-Thenmala sector to be generally slower than most TN State Highways - probably because of the large number of small towns / large villages on the way leading to quite a bit of local traffic. I remember seeing a suggestion from someone on this forum saying that going till Kovilpatti on the 4-lane NH7 and taking the Kovilpatti-Sankarankovil- Puliangudi state highway may perhaps be a faster and more peaceful drive (in spite of it being longer by some 20-25 kms), but have never tried it myself.
But in any case this should be faster than the NH7/NH47 combo.
P.S. The last I travelled on those roads (beyond Thirumangalam) is probably a year or so back - so my information isn't very current. May be someone who has been that way later will provide updates. |
