I'm planning to drive down this Friday to Madikeri, Coorg from Hyderabad. Distance via B'lore - 830 Kms
Distance via Raichur, Bellary - 780Kms

What do you guys suggest. Which is the ideal route.

Also would like to know how long does it take for Hyd-Blr section.

MC, The difference is just 50km but it will take lots of time. Stick to Bangalore route.

If you start from Hyd at 3AM, try Bangalore at noon.
You should be in Coorg by 7PM.

You need to plan your breaks accordingly. As you will be passing Bangalore, I can help you get onto Mysore Road from NH7. Pls give me a call if reqd.

Looks like this trip might become a non-starter, but still pinning my hopes on it.

I suggest you break hyderbad - madikeri ( coorg) in 2 parts. Leave hyderabad early morning and reach mysore by night and halt there. Leave mysore and plan for elephant camp (should be there before 9AM for better result to interact with elephants) in Dubare after kushalnagar and also while coming back visit Bylukuppe Tibetian Luxury golden Temple. Cover places around Madikeri when you stay there so that you can use your day efficiently. While coming back you can think about driving via nagarhole forest, you will love it.

Driving hyderabad - madikeri in single day won't give luxury comforts for holiday. It will be too much of travelling in Indian conditons. 5 years later you can plan driving 800km in one day.

Never try via raichur/bellary unless you want to drive in that area because via bangalore its better than via bellary.

PS Innova or Alto max. I travel per day is 400+km in Indian condition and I always have planty of time thats one advantage for me. I like travel less and utilize surrounding places max.

The thing I have planned is leaving 12 midnight from Hyd for BLR. Reach BLR by 8 am. Have breakfast and reach Madikeri by 3 PM.
I'm used to driving about 600 Kms through bad Indian Roads in a hatch. I hope it will be different in a SUV

Aniruddha, I did this last year. Do this via Bangalore and Kushalnagar. Bangy is doable in 9 hrs. You can do this in one day. You can also plan on a break in Mysore. We tried turning off from NH7 from ChikBallapur and doing the SHs till madikeri. Got hopelessly lost over really bad/ non-existent routes. Came back through Nagarhole-Mysore-Bangalore and no problems.

Ani, so Coorg is still on..huh? My suggestion is to let go for this destination for time being and stick to the one we discussed this morning.

Like Ravibhat said, it would be too much travelling in a single day in this scorching heat. Even i enjoy driving 500kms in a day and anything beyond that is an overkill and just plain and simple driving without much fun.

Thanks mate for the offer. Will definitely ping you. I actually need to get my running-in done so needed a good drive. But driving alone 1600 kms alone in 2 days is becoming a bit too much

If you are planning this trip as a running-in run, add a good 30% towards estimated travel times as you will not be able to drive at top speed.

Summer is the wrong time to do a really long non-stop run to 'run-in' a new car. The high tempratures are more likely to do harm than good.

MC..didn't know that you bought a new car. Which one is it?

Incase the car is new, then the 1600kms in two days is going to be too taxing for a new vehicle and you also.

Well the manual says running in should be done upto 2500 RPM. The car hits 100 at about 1900 RPM on the 5th so I think times would remain the same.

Got a "Bolero Storm". It came home last night amidst the storm. When I got the vehicle it had about 160 KM on the odo. Presently the odo is at 255KM and intend to finish 500 before I embark on the trip. But 800 kms continuous driving will definitely be too much for me.

Congrats!! Buddy..you got a milecrunching machine with you now.

Running in of a new vehicle should be a mix of both city and highway driving, however incase you intend to do your long trip then keep varying the revs.
