Guys - I'm planing a Hyderabad - Coorg - Hyderabad trip from this Thursday, 21st till Sunday 24th.
Would like to reach Coorg by daylight on 21st, so planing on leaving by 2.00 AM; And i would like to bypass B'lore city, could someone suggest where to get off from NH7 onto the Mysore highway without entering the city.
Anyone who's done the trip recently - What is the approximate time taken from Hyd - B'lore & from B'lore to Madikeri?
Directions / best route / stay options will be much appreciated.

If you want to do it without getting into city following is the best option:

Devanahalli-Doddaballapur (NH207)
Doddaballpur-Nelamangala (SH74)
Nelamangala-NICE Entry (NH4)
NICE road - Mysore Exit,


NH 7 to Mysore Rd - Google Maps

Poiints to Note:

- SH74 from Doddaballpur to Nelamangala right the very place where NH48 (Bangalore-Mangalore Highway) starts.

- Once onto NH4 at Nelamangala, be watchful to spot the NICE road entry.

SH74 from Doddaballapur to Nelamangala is decent, but not all that super-smooth. But much less traffic. @Lukeskywalker, knows about this road condition much better. You can check with him as well.

Friends,

I am planning to drive down to Madikeri from Hyderabad during the long weekend that is coming up during the month end. Aug 31st (Wednesday) is leave for Id and Sep 1st (Thursday) is Ganesh Pooja. Throw in a leave for Friday and I am getting 5 days. We already have a booking in Gowri Nivas (Madikeri) from Aug 31st to Sep 2nd (3 nights).

The plan that I have in mind is as follows.

Tuesday (Aug 30th) – Leave around noon and stay at Anantpur
Wednesday (Aug 31st) – Anantpur to Madikeri
Thursday (Sep 1st) and Friday (Sep 2nd) – Stay at Madikeri
Saturday (Sep 3rd) – Madikeri to Anantapur
Sunday (Sep 4th) – Anantapur to Hyderabad.

I need information on two items

Item # 1 (Route)

Google Map gives me the following route

Anantapur -> Dodballapur -> Nelamangla -> Muddanahally -> Ramanathapura -> Kushalnagar -> Madikeri

Is this the best route (anything to avoid entering BLR. BLR folks... ) or is there any other route. I was happy to look at this option give by Google as this completely avoided BLR. I also see the option below given by ampere to go to NICE road from Nelamangala and I guess that would mean, I hit Mysore and then go to Madikeri via Hunsur and Kushalnagar

Pls let me know which would be the best route in terms of least traffic.

Item # 2 (Places to visit)
My fellow colleagues are also reaching Madikeri by Wednesday night and we will be three families staying there from Wednesday night to Saturday morning. Any advise on what not to miss (with two full days in hand) and also for me on my return path from Madikeri back to Anantapur.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you are leaving around noon,you could easily make it to Bangalore by night(7hour drive),unless of course you have a need to stopover in Anantpur.Stopover in Bangalore would ensure that you reach early with a late start from Bangalore(7hour drive from Blr to Madikeri)

Return leg looks fine with a stopover in anantpur.

Take the bypass option mentioned by Ampere,that is the best route and you dont really enter Mysore,you divert onto the Madikeri road much before Mysore.Directions are clearly mentioned on the roads thanks to Orange County.

Dubare elephant camp,Talacauvery(origin of cauvery) are some of the places.Best is to ask your host for a local map,easier that way,.Expect roads in and around Madikeri to be slushy and potholed after the monsoon battering.Also be sure to ask your host as to how is the road to the homestay as most of the roads to resorts and homestays are bad.

I will take Ranjit's advice and stay drive straight to BLR instead of breaking at Anantapur. I plan to start from Hyd around 12 noon, being a slow driver and with a family which takes too many breaks, I assume I can reach BLR NICE road by 10 or 11 in the night for stay.

I had two more questions.

1) Are there any good hotels around the Nelamangala - NICE road stretch where I can stay for the night instead of entering BLR ?

2) For BLR - Mysore route, once I the outer ring road from Nelamangala, I assume that I will have to take the Bidadi -> Channapatna -> Maddur -> Srirangapatna route to mysore correct (Not the Hardahalli, Kanakapura, Malavalli route using NH 209). Is this correct ?

You can take the Outer Ring road at Hebbal flyover and agin join NICe road. But you will encounter some traffic on this stretch. The other option to go to Dobbepet from Devnahalli and then turn back to Nelamangala and take NICE road and then hit Mysore Road.

Since you are staying in Mysore, you can just follow the Mysore - Madikeri highway. You can ask any local for Hunsur road and they will guide you.

There are many options in Madikeri. But i would recommend you to stay in Home Stays to get the flavour of Kodavas. You can check out some nice homestays in this website and call Sharath @ 9480595888

Best would be as Fauji mentioned,via Hebbal.At Hebbal interchange,take the right to go towards Tumkur and once you join the NH4 go on till you encounter the NICE road.Take it and exit at Kengeri.If you leave by 5,you can stop for lunch on the Mysore road which has upteen options all the way till you reach Mysore.

Next day you could leave Mysore and stop at Cafe Coorg for breakfast at Hunsur.Its at the intersection of the road to Hunsur Town and the town "bypass".

You could try Tata Coffee's Plantation Trails estates for stay depending on your budget.Dont go by the rates on their website,speak to them and they offer quite competitive rates.Plantation Trails

I'm plannig Hyd-Kabii-Coorg-Hyd trip.

Start on Oct 7th 1AM.

Reach Kabini by afternoon. Check-in into any hotel.

Next day afternoon start from Kabini to Madikeri.

Next day sight seeing in coorg.

Start to Hyd.

This is the high level plan. Could you help me to crystalize this plan?

Can you recommend any good resort/homestay around Kabini&Madikeri?

If I start at 1AM, can I reach Kabini by afternoon?

Depends on your budget.

Allocate 7-8 hours for Hyd-Blr and another 4-5 for Coorg.
