Coimbatore to Mysore - Via Chamraj nagar or Bandipur?

Hi,

Planned to go to Mysore on thursday(Starting late evening maybe around 4:30pm). Just a bit confused to which route i should stick on to as i am not aware of the road condition. Anybody travelled recently kindly input the road conditions please.

Route1. Coimbatore>Satyamangalam>chamrajnagar>nanjangud>my sore
or
Route2.Coimbatore>ooty>kallati>bandipur>gundelpet> mysore

In route 1 i am worried about the road conditions from chamrajnagar>nanjangud as last time about a year back the roads were pathetic.

In route 2 not sure on the road conditions between kallati>bandipur>gundelpet>mysore

Inputs appreciated...

Regards

I would go for route two since the road conditions are excellent on both routes Masinagudi (Sigur Ghats) as well as Gudalur except for a small bad stretch of around 8kms between Gundlupet and Bandipur. Don't know about road conditions for route 1 since I haven't been on that road, other TBhians will help you out here !

Shailu, have tried both roads recently... Bandipur route is fine except for that stretch from Bandipur to Gundulpet. About 10 KMs of bad road, but the rest is absolutely fine.

Satyamangalam route is not fixed yet. It's mostly broken tarmac (not many potholes) so you can do a lot of speed.

I would recommend Bandipur if distance is not a concern

Mysore-Chamarajanagar-Sathyamangala-Coimbatore road conditions

Anyone recently travelled in this route? I heard that road condition is pretty bad from Nanjanagud to Sathy. Is this true? On 29th I am planning to travel by this route. Please share your experience.

I have travelled on part of this route - Mysore->nanjangud->gundlupet->bandipur on my way to Wayanad in April this year. It was fine then in fact rather good then, but still exercise caustion as the monsoon might have created some damage meanwhile

I was planning to go to Ooty via Chamrajnagar-Sathy-Mettupalyam since I would be traveling at night and the Bandipur route is closed.

Some one who travelled to coimbatore in a bus told me that the Chamrajnagar-Sathy road is pathetic. Even he was not exactly sure since he traveled in a night bus. All he remembers is jumping off the seats on the bumpy road.

Does anybody know the road condition from Sathy to Mettupalayam?

The better option for you is to go via Krishnagiri - Thoppur - Mettur - Ammapettai - Sathyamangalam - Sirumugai - Mettupalayam. The road conditions are good all the way even though they are 2 lane state highways. I would advice you against taking the route via Chamrajnagar as the roads are not in great shape until the Tamil Nadu border (Hasanur) and is a pain driving through it in the night.

coimbatore - sathy- chamraj- mysore

guys i couldnt get any feedback, so now i gone give first hand

started soon after my light lunch at 1pm. expected the traffic to be less during that time.
took me a decent time to get out of city, second upto sathy the road is excellent.
as expected no traffic reached sathy in no time. i would say 1.15 mins
then the ghats to dhimbam.

crossed the border ,upto here the roads are excellent.
even in karnataka upto chamrajnagar the roads are good from there the last stretch to nanjungoud is bad to worse.
i made the total trip 200 kms in 3 hours absolutely no traffic.

by 4.30 i am at my friends place in mysore after a cup of coffee and pufs at CUBS.

Doing Coimbatore to Mysore in February

Hi,

Thanks this is useful as I plan to take this route in the first weekend in February..am flying in from Bombay and borrowing my dad's Maruti Ritz to go down for a wedding in Mysore....

Three hours seems a real quick drive what car were you driving? And how long do you think it will take in a small car like the Ritz?

I drove Masanagudi (Mudamalai) to Coimbatore in May last year, via Gundlepet, Chamrajnagar, Dhimbam and Sathy, the road was decent to excellent on the Tamil Nad side. It took me about five hours. I was driving a CRV.

cheers

Realised someone would ask that once I wrote that. As background I grew up around Ooty, Wynad, Gudalur so yes this is a question I would ask as well!! But this was an odd weekend. I was at a friends farm near Masinigudi for lunch. I Had driven down from Ooty. But when I was to go back I learnt that there were unusual traffic jams in Ooty because of the flower show, the Lawrence School Founders day and an election rally being addressed by A Raja all happening on th e same day!! It eventually proved to be a good decision because cars that chose to go through Ooty that day took as much time as I did driving through Gundulpet and Sathy, the difference being I had fun while they were stuck in a four hour traffic jam!!
I am talking about May 1st 2009..... I may have got the date wrong by a day.
