Summer trip to hills from Bangalore (Suggestions required)

We are planning to drive to some hill-station around Bangalore for the May-1 long weekend, to beat the heat. So here are the decisions:-

Coorg will be hot
Ooty, Kodaikanal will be too crowded in summer
Kerala will be hot

So what are the options..

1. I've not been to Kukke Subramanya & the hill ranges around.. But we don't want a pilgrimage, its a pleasure trip

2. Any other hill stations in TN/Kerala which will be cool & not crowded.. (Yercaud - is there anything to do there?)

3. Karnataka hills - Is summer a good time to visit in/around Jog falls ranges primarily to beat the heat?

4. Please suggest any other hills within drivable range from Bangalore

Tks in advance,
GO

I would suggest stay back and enjoy the almost empty roads of bangalore! Every other place be it yercaurd or kodai or ooty or even mysore is going to be full of bangaloreans.

Went there last year same time, was not that hot. Just avoid the peak afternoon.

Try Coonoor or Kotagiri instead of Ooty.

Kukke Subramanya and other hills around in Western Ghats will be hot and humid at this time of the year.

Kodiakanal, Ooty, Yercaud will be crowded as these are the only few places in South India to beat the heat. You can try Munnar. But i feel it also might be crowded. Try visiting places a little less crowded like Coonoor or Kotagiri which are close to Ooty.

Valpaarai is a nice option. Which route do you take from Bangalore exactly ?

Any hill station during long weekends would be crowded. If you are looking for not so crowded, then check out Topslip.

Topslip will not be possible till April 30th 2009 as they are closed due to the peak summer to avoid the forest fire.

I just called them and was told that only by April 27th 2009, they will decide when to open the sanctuary for public.

PM me for the phone number of the forest officer in charge, if you want to inquire more info.

I took the most dreaded (and scenic) route via Kanakapura, ChamrajNagar, Sathy, Kovai and Pollachi.

You could alternatively try the Krishnagiri-Salem-Kovai-Pollachi route.

Save your money and spend it wisely during the monsoons visiting the western ghats, trust me its worthwhile.
