Hyderabad to Dandeli by Road | Best route

Hello Folks

We are planning for a long weekend getaway to Dandeli from hyderabad. We would be starting on Thursday evening and plan to return by Monday morning. Also, safety is very important.. I would be travelling in the night. So, is it safe to take this route?
Please suggest me the best possible route and any further suggestions with respect to stay and places to visit in & around Dandeli are most welcome.

I have two options

1) Hyd - Mahboobnagar - Raichur - Manvi - Sindnur - Gadag - Hubli - Dandeli
567 kms

2) Hyd - Kurnool - Gooty - Guntakal - Bellary - Hospet - Gadag - Hubli - Dandeli
680 kms

There is a difference of more than a 100 km between both the routes but one of my friends suggested me the 2nd option as the roads are much better as half is distance is NH7 and not many deviations...

Has anyone taken any of these routes recently? Please throw some light..

you can very well consider the 1st option. I have traveled to Goa on this road last year and the roads are very good. I do not if the status of road is changed now.

I am thinking of a short visit to Goa if time permits..

Can you please let me know how long would it take from Dandeli to Goa(Panaji) and also from Hyd to Dandeli (approximately)

Hi maverick!

I am planning to go "Hyderabad - Dandeli - Gokarna - Hyderebad" the coming long weekend and found this in my initial search. Which route did you take and how did you find it? I know it's been a while, still any tips and suggestions will be helpful also regarding the stay there.

Dandeli-Joida-Anshi-Kadra bypass - Karwar - Ankola - Gokarna

Planning Hyderabad-Dandeli-Hyderabad soon . As i drive a small car, is the Hyd - Mahboobnagar - Raichur - Gadag - Hubli - Dandeli route safe (is it 4 laned) ? If not is it better to go via Hyd-gooty-hospet-Dandeli ?

If i do take the "Hyd - Mahboobnagar - Raichur - Gadag - Hubli - Dandeli" route , as suggested in most of the threads , Can anyone please suggest the place for a night halt ?

1) I will be starting at 2pm from hyderabad . Will drive leisurely and no night driving .

2) Plan is to reach dandeli by 12 pm the next day.

Did the Hyd-Dandeli-Hyd from 22-26th jan.

Onward : Hyd-Mahboobnagar-Raichur-Hampi-Hosepet-Gadag-Hubli-Alnavar-Dandeli

22.01.2015 : Left from Sainikpuri at 8am. Ridiculous roads in bhootpur ( after exiting nh7 in mahboobnagar) . God awful roads near Raichur thermal power plant. And limited lunch options in Raichur as I took the bypass . Reached Hampi at around 5.30 . Would've reached a bit earlier but roads towards Kampli sucked. Got to see a few attractions. Then headed out to hotel rainbow , Hospet for night stay ( Maligi being sold out) .This god forsaken hotel had bed bugs . So it was a eventful night.

23.01.2015 : left Hospet with a bad mood at 7.00a.m . Loved the drive between Koppal to gadag. Had breakfast in the car watching the windmills. Missed Haliyal road , took alnavar road. Reached hornbill resort, dandeli at 12.30pm.

Return : Dandeli-Haliyal-Gadag-Hampi-Raichur-Mahboobnagar-Hyd

25.01.2015 : started at 9am , took the Haliyal road and reached kishkinda heritage resort , hampi at 2.30 pm . Worst place to stay in hampi . It's 4kms away from the world heritage site by a ferry crossing and 40 odd kilometres by road (last ferry of the day at 6pm). So we decided to skip driving.

26.01.2015 : started at 9 am , lunch in Jadcherla at 3ish and reached home at 6 pm.

All in all , my spark didn't disappoint . Even though roads were 2 lanned and bad at a few stretches , low traffic made the route manageable .

Dandeli to Hubli is via Haliyal. Thats the shortest. You dont need to go to Alnavar. If you are on the NH4 bypass, you cant reach the Haliyal road. You need to take a mud road off the bypass to get to the Haliyal SH. Quite surprising they still have no plans to add this access to the bypass.

Yes i know. After joining the Hubli-Dharwad road , my GPS went crazy . Started pointing left at places where there were no roads . We tried our best to join Haliyal road but there was no road visible to join the underpass . On the upside , Alnavar-Dandeli road is very scenic .

Return journey was through Haliyal . No problems.
