Bangalore to Yelagiri - Route Query

Am planning a trip to Yelagiri sometime end of this month and would like fellow T-Bhpians to help me out with the best possible route, current road conditions and accomodation available. Am thinking of Blore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Bargur. And Oh, will most probably be taking the Omni for the trip !

You are correct on the route. I believe there is a TTDC hotel. And also there is hotel call sterling. Very small place. Had been there in last Dec. Road are Very good. After 20+KM from Krishnagiri you need to take a right. Keep watching for the turn. After this turn road is Ok. Not very good.

Else u can also go till ambur and come back. you has to face less bad road.

Remember nothing much to see the place. Just go there and relax...

Arin's route is shorter but not faster.

Faster route is:
Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Vaniyambadi - Yelagiri (about 175km from Silk board)

After the toll booth at Vaniyambadi, take the left underpass (which is like a U turn) you will enter a nice 2 laned road. 'ELAGIRI' is well marked in the signboard on NH46 after the booth. Go another 10km on that road. THere is a left turn (some small shops are there at the turn). After 17km from that turn and a few hairpin bends you are at the top of yelagiri.

I dont remember whether there is any TTDC hotel there. Few good places of stay are Hotel Hills, Yelagiri Hills Country Club, Sterling etc.

Re: Bangalore to Yelagiri - Route Query

Did a day trip to Yelagiri this weekend. Thought to post some details about the route after Krishnagiri. Once you get on to NH-46, after Krishnagiri, keep going until you hit the first toll plaza. This toll plaza is called the "Vaniyambadi Toll Plaza" and is the first that you will encounter after Krishnagiri. Once you cross this toll plaza you will need to get off the highway and take the service road (on the left) before you hit the second bridge (be attentive after you cross your first bridge). At the first junction (which appears after a km or so, after you get onto the service road), take a u-turn and now you are on SH-18. Once you get onto SH-18, the left turn to Yelagiri (which appears after 4-5 kms) is well marked and distinguishable.

Re: Bangalore to Yelagiri - Route Query

We are going to Yelagiri on Monday for a day drive. We are not expecting much, but are there any other places on the way that are worth visiting?

There are 3 things to be done mainly:

1. There is a morning trek (mild one)
2. A lake nearby
3. A garden that has a music fountain show
(Where the song and the fountain hardly sync!)

Nothing on the way. You can park on the road side and soak in some good greenery. Krishnagiri-Vanyambadi stretch has good green views around.

Harish

We went there about 8 months ago. Roads were good.
Its all the same and nothing new could have come up.
Its just a small climb of 14 hairpin bends all in a zigzag on the same side of the hill.

Have you been to Yercaud ?.. through the Kuppanur route ?

I think there is absolutely no change. What ever the change, its on the 6-lane between Bangalore-Krishnagiri. Rest I think pretty much the same.

The hairpins also are not that difficult.

We skipped yelagiri this week due to rain forecast for the place. I will post up next Sunday after the ride.

Re: Bangalore to Yelagiri - Route Query

We did the Yelagiri Trip this week Road were Awesome and we enjoyed the ride. the Mountain road were empty so got a good chance to corner aroundBangalore to Yelagiri - Route Query-20130728214.jpg.

What to watch out for

1) Monkeys when you stop on the look out points, one of them almost stole the bike key
2) Road from Bangalore to Krishnagiri is under construction at parts and driver/riders need to be extra vigilant for diversion
3) look out for local villager driving or riding on the wrong side and crossing the road without indications without looking for on coming traffic.
4) While ascending the hills be ware of crowds standing around as they are generally having a drink and can be a nuisance.
