During our last visit to Waynad (Sep 2010), we chose this home stay. Its not a commercial one, so no name, no ADs, its just word of the mouth, run by a family. Unofficially its called "Joy's Garden"

Decent place, spacious rooms. Ideal for a group, as they let out the entire first floor.

For smaller groups (5-6) people its Rs 500 per day per head. Coffee/Tea complimentary. (We got a day’s breakfast too , on the house.)

For bigger groups the entire space is let out for Rs 2500 per day.

Food is arranged, either cooked or else would be ordered from a hotel (incase you want Chinese or tandori..) You just have to call them in advance and let them know.

24/7 hot water, Big TV with cable connection.

There are 2 bed rooms, 3 bathrooms and huge hall. A big lawn, and ample parking space for about 3-4 tempo-travelers.

We had been there after the rains, so it was all lush green. No other houses nearby, so its a nice place to sit back and relax.

They speak English, Tamil and Malayalam. Bits and pieces of Hindi.

Highly recommended!!

Ask for Appam and chicken curry, the spicy one. Its worth it.

Hotel TSG Emerald (3 or 4 star)
Rooms - Excellent
Service - Good
Restaurant - Good food but pretty expensive

Havelock
Barefoot Scuba Resort
Rooms - Good (Minimum facilities)
No service
Restaurant - Ok, (Not recommend if you have option to go out)
Good place if we want to do Scuba diving, snorkeling, etc. Beach access is 200 mtrs. Only problem is too many dogs in the evening.


Barefoot Resort
Rooms - Excellent, spacious, expensive but worth
No service
Restaurant - Excellent but expensive. No other option if you stay at this resort or else you will have to travel 12-13 kms to try different restaurants.
Easy access to beach (the famous radhanagar beach). Beach towels and mats available anytime of the day to spend time at the beach.

Thanks a lot for the info. I have already contacted them this morning. That trip might actually end up being my first travelogue on Team-BHP.

I am reaching India on 5 Nov and this time I feel very confident about places to visit and routes to take, after being a member on this forum for a year now.

He quoted me 2500 per day for 4 adults and my 2 year old. When it comes to bargaining, I am the worst! My wife is proof to my poor barganining skills time and again.

Don't even know if that is a good deal. DO you think I can ask for a better price on that? He has offered me complimentary breakfast for 2!! I have asked him to make breakfast for 4, do you think he will go down on the price a bit more?

Do you mean to say that he has agreed to give you 2 rooms for 2500 per day (1250 per room)
or
all of you (4 adults + 1 kid) will share one room with extra mattresses for 2500 per day.?

Although you have asked for a homestay, do check this out if you havent already, don't have any personal experience of this place but I guess you can check out the reviews on Holiday IQ or Trip Advisor - Wildlife India, Wildlife Safari, Nagarahole Bangalore, Wildlife Safari in India.

We used to stay at a friend's guesthouse in Kutta which had only the bare necessities since my friend is in Mysore and he visits his farm very rarely. But he does not let out his place, will try and check with him if he knows of any in the area.

Even i was contemplating the same place and found out a few places- search for a thread on kutta in TBHP and you will find a few results. The good thing was that i called up a couple of places, they were booked but they gave me other numbers
Jade in kutta is nice as per a friends experience. I do not have any personal experiences though(TBHP folks have, posted on threads)

My personal experience in Masinagudi
Nest Inn
Room charges- Rs 1500 per day.
Food: Pay per meal- the food quality was decent, surprisingly good. We ordered: Dal(v nice), Paneer curry( nice), Veg Korma(not good)
Idli/Dosa for breakfast- Very good
Chapati's were superb- just like we make at home
The resort has a beautiful view, but is just basic. Its a best place if you are going to be out in the jungle and not wish to enjoy the stay as its a small inn.
Cleanliness of the rooms- Adequate
Negatives: Its in the city center, and if there is any festival (like it was yesterday), you will have some morons put loudspeakers and blare music starting 6AM till late.
The mattress was hardly anything great, and so was the bedding(blankets etc). It was just about adequate, but clean enough.
Overall- recommended if you are on a tight budget and want the best bang for your bucks. Also if you are not the kind who will like to laze around and enjoy a resort setting- with pool, playing area etc.
BEST if you are like us- going to be out in the jungle or around most of the time
Imp: We booked because we had nothing else available, and we found great reviews on Tripadvisor.

Come Feb 2011, we plan a Delhi trip, it will be 2 families ( 10 Adults 2 kids )

Any place suggested, maybe a serviced apartment would suit best.:)

We will be staying overnight in Dharmasthala. I am looking for accommodation information - Good hotels/cottage/homestays (preferably close to the temple) and their contact inforamtion.

In Dharmasthala you'll find lot of places to stay which are affiliated to the temple authorities. There is one near the new bus stand (forgot its name), try that, it is new and very clean. Infact, most of them are clean in Dharmasthala. The price / room / night is around 100 bucks.

IIRC, none of these places offer advanced booking or anything of that unless you have a good recommendation letter from anyone of the big shot working in government

Apart from these, i dont think there are any private hotels in Dharmasthala.
