Many options: By Expressway I assume you are referring to the regular Mumbai-Kolhapur-Belgaum-Davanagere route?

Kolhapur : There are many many. Best being Sayaji. But you need to come in slightly. But the hotel is worth it

Hubli : Has Fortune ITC, Dennisons.

Belgaum: You have the Marriott ! Right on the highway and it's a great place. There are others too.

Davanagere: Apoorva Resorts right on the highway

Re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

I am looking for a 3-4-5 star accommodation in or around Mysore. It must be in a silent setting with Nature all around. An individual villa near Ranganthittu off Mysore city will be ideal. Any recommendation?

Re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

My parents are traveling to Aurangabad to visit Ajanta Ellora and Grishneswar Jyotirlinga Temple. It will be a 2-3 days trip and they will be using local taxi service. Looking for suggestions for good family friendly hotel and which area should I prefer? Is it better to stay close to the temple (Ellora cave is also nearby) or Ajanta caves or city center ?

Not a villa, but I've tried Silent Shore resort in Mysore and it was pretty good. Try to go for the cottages overlooking the lake.

Thanks,
Las Vegas - The best thing to do in Las Vegas is to stay in one of the casino-resorts. There are accomodations for all budgets and preferences in the various casinos. They also have various buffet options. Plus this way you will be closest to the atractions and will not need transportation. You can pretty much walk to all the casinos.

New York - Accomodations in New York City are expensive. Your best bet is to stay in the suburbs. Try hotels in Jersey City, NJ or Journal Square, NJ. Journal Square is a mini-India, food and atmosphere wise. Plus it is very close to the City and it is connected by Metro. Or you can stay in Stamford, CT. It is farther from NY City, compared to NJ locations. But this too is connected by Metro.

Washigton DC - Same as above. Try to stay in the suburbs. Alexandria is the closest. There are accomodations for all budgets and preferences here. You can stay as far as Fairfax (~20 min drive to DC).

Re: A thread on Accommodation & Rates

Say you booked a hotel room by paying in advance the whole sum + taxes. And then come the D-day, you are not able to make the trip and you cancel a day before or on the same day as checkin. Most hotels would withhold the entire amount ( of course depending on the cancellation policy).

Now, what happens to the tax you paid? Why are not the taxes fully refunded by the Hotel? Why should I pay taxes for a service that I didn't end up availing?

Planning to visit Bandhavgarh in the month of October or November. Please suggest resort accommodation options for the family of two adults and three kids. Should be kids friendly but close to nature too. TIA

What you have booked is a good and not a service. Depending on the situation at the time of your cancellation, the hotel may or may not be able to resell this "goods" and hence they will charge you retention.

The hotel shows the money collected as either miscellaneous income or they show a check in and check out. In both these cases, taxes have to be charged. So the taxes collected from you goes towards this.

Hope this helps.

But why is it a Good and not a Service ?

Technicality aside, while it makes sense from hotel point of view, it doesn't make sense from a buyer point of view. Big corporations always protect their interest on even the smallest of funds while the average buyer like me has to "understand" why it is so and shell out bucks. I still think that hotels should use part of the "room charges" amount to pay off their GST anyway if that's their liability. You shouldn't get to enjoy the whole thing without providing any service after all. If the question is that it is a potential loss because they assigned you a room and they can't find another guest, the opposite is also probable that the hotel might as well have found another customer in which case, they get to keep double the income.
