OYO Rooms at Panagal Park (Suriya International) on Sir Thiagaraja Road next to Pondy Bazaar Police station is decent and a steal at Rs.1600 for a large Double room with AC and complimentary breakfast and WiFi (not very stable though).

There is another OYO property almost opposite called Sai International serviced apartments at similar prices but no first hand experience. These places are ideally suited if you have to visit T Nagar.

No exclusive parking so will have to make do with street side paid parking but don't have to pay if staying at these hotels. The road is a commercial place with several shops, brand stores, etc and for any shopping, just use Nataraja service (walk around

).

Update on Varkala accomodation

Just back from a long weekend stay in Varkala. Since it was a long weekend, all good resorts were sold out even while we tried 3 weeks before but managed to secure 3 rooms in Krishnatheeram Ayur Holy Beach Resorts. Got AC Double rooms for INR 2400 for 2 nights each including complimentary breakfast.

I would rate them 4/5 since rooms were clean and comfortable for the price. Location is very good as it is sea facing from lower cliff. Beach infront of the resort was took over by sea during this time of the year but there is another small less crowded beach nearby.

Limited parking space inside but they arrange nearby if we need. Also restaurant is small and hence expect bit of waiting if traveling in season time. Food is just average quality though.

As ooty is a popular hill station and a lot commercialized, there are many options for dining. However, not all places are good, especially during peak season.

Having said that, there are some good options available. For a meal, you can try Nahar (expensive, but good), preethi palace on ettinees road, and preethi palace on Connoor road. For snacks, look no further than Prabha Sweets. Their samosa and badam milk are heavenly. Try out virtue bakes as their puffs and rolls are good. There is an A2B, but i would suggest you avoid the place as its always crowded.

This is an update on a place where we stayed in Nelliyampathi, Palakkad, Kerala during last week (August 14 & 15). Green Land Farmhouse is among the three or four decent stays in Nelliayampathi.

The resort buildings are old but has a charm to it. Facilities inside the room are not modern, the rooms are clean, but has only bare necessities. They can have more facilities like kettle, toiletries, intercom among others.

The restaurant is set in a modern building showcasing a contemporary style. The vegetarian meals during lunch was tasty, and served hot. The special non-veg that we ordered was very good, prepared in Kerala style. Dinner had chappati / ghee rice / white rice along with side dishes. The non-veg items served at night included the emu meat (sourced from their farm).

The property is very vast with only a portion developed for the resort. The remaining land barring a poultry / cattle farm is largely covered by coffee plants and large trees which gives a forest feeling, in fact, it is bordering forest land. The farm animals and poultry may be of interest to children as well as to grown-ups. If you are a avid nature lover, you will enjoy watching lots of birds and butterflies. There are couple of sambar deer inside the campus (heard those are grown up in the estate itself and since it likes cooked food with salt, it is staying there without venturing to the jungle to be with its companions of wild), which will be an attraction to kids and grown-ups alike. There are couple of viewpoints in the estate itself. These points are on par with the famous Seethar kundu view point.

If you want to increase your adrenaline levels, they can arrange the off-road drive through their estate. The Mahindra 4*4 vehicles that they arrange from the local people will take you mainly through the estate road and finally to a place called Cheriya Manpara inside the forest. You will enjoy their off-roading expertise. At many places, the roads are washed out due to heavy rain and at some places it is very slippery. The way they negotiate the slopes, curves & narrow road and the final ascent towards the big rock (manpara) is thrilling. We took the night drive through the same route and it was even more thrilling at night. We could see only some sambar deer on the way, no gaur or elephant; but the highlight of the drive is the off-roading drive itself. The view of the town beneath those hills is breathtaking at night, looked like a star studded night sky.

They arranged camp-fire and has the in-house amplifier / mic which our large group found very useful. Over-all a good place for a night stay and a day.

Overall, a nice stay in the lap of nature.

Thanks for the update. We had come across Green Land Farmhouse but ultimately booked Kailas Plantations for our Sep 2nd week trip to Nelliampathy, based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. Need to check out how it turns out.

Kailas is better in terms of both location and rooms. But the road to the resort is very bad. Just take care that you don't get any underbody hits

On a recent trip I saw a newish hotel called Alps Residency almost beside the Krishnagiri Toll plaza, looked quite decent. I think the location is quite good for someone looking to break for the night when traveling via Krishnagiri.

I along with 3 of my work friends are driving to Nellore this Friday (26th August) to attend one of my colleague's marriage function. This is the first time we are visiting Nellore and hence I have some queries regarding the route and also about some good hotels on the way.
Our plan is something like this:
1) Have breakfast at home and start from Tin Factory junction at 9.00 in the morning
2) Have lunch at around 1.00pm
3) Reach the destination by 5.00pm
4) Start back to Bangalore on Saturday at around 11.00 in the morning from Nellore.
5) Reach Bangalore by 7pm.

My queries:
1) The route shown by google maps is https://goo.gl/maps/XEzRJpXTvHP2. Let me know whether this is the best possible route or if we need to take any alternate route.
2) We need to know a good hotel around Tirupati (not in the city, but on the highway). We are assuming here that we should be near Tirupati by lunch time.
3) While returning back, we would like to know if there are any good hotels between Nellore and Tirupati.

Note to Moderator: I did not find any thread related to Route/Hotel queries between Bangalore and Nellore and hence started this thread.

I have stayed at alps once. The restaurant had a rather sketchy meal but the room was good, clean and with a flat screen tv.

Paper thin walls so the people next door playing Tamil tv serials at full volume were very easy to hear.

Its been there for some time now. Location is both good and bad. If you are coming from Bangalore and want to here, you need to take a U-turn and come back.

God forbid if there is a queue at the toll booth.

(Even the service roads are not spared)

Need help guys. I would be driving down to Mumbai from Delhi and will reach mumbai on 1st Oct 2016 till 3rd oct. Since i would be further traveling to Pune from Mumbai, hence i need your advice on hotel stay in mumbai.

#Any hotel that is near to pune highway and also close to mumbai tourist attractions.
#Should i stay in East or West?
#Any good hotel you guys can recommend in the range of 5K max?

Pune highway is one end of the city. Mumbai tourist attractions are at the very other end of the city - downtown like Marine Drive, Flora Fountain etc.

If you want to sightsee in Mumbai then book downtown and budget some hours for getting back out of town, especially as you are spending a couple of days there.

If you want to bypass mumbai entirely and stay on the highway to pune - Panvel has some fairly ok hotels to stay in (Oyo Rooms is a decent bet for short stays while on the road, not fancy but not outright shady either).

Staying inside Mumbai Vs staying nearer to the expressway (near Kamothe/Khar Ghar/Belapur) is a tough one really, both have pros and cons.

From our own experience, I would suggest staying inside the city in places like Andheri so that you can easily get onto the roads towards other parts of the city for example Linking Road, Bandra, the expressways (For example Andheri has good connectivity to most places of interest).

Further, plan your drive in such a way that you just enter the city and exit it once each in your own car. For local sightseeing, you're better off with public transport (local trains, buses, metro where available), cabs and autos.

Navi Mumbai has lot of good hotels close to the road leading onto Mumbai--Pune expressway but most POIs in Bombay are located in SoBo ( South Bombay ) and Western Bombay. So as suggested by @NPV , staying in Andheri/Santacruz/Dadar will be better. Once you are done with Bombay, you can start early morning from your hotel in Andheri towards Pune. Roads in Bombay are wide too ( if not as smooth, aesthetically good and as clean as Delhi

) and you will be completely out of the city onto Mumbai--Pune Expressway in just 45 mins to 1 hour.

If you still want to know some good hotels in Navi Mumbai area, then IBIS hotel at Turbhe junction near flyover ramp ( Thane--CBD Belapur road ) will be the most convenient one for you to head towards South Bombay and to Pune as well. It is within 5k as far I know. Coming from Delhi ( whether you come via NH8 Ahmedabad or NH3 Indore ), head towards Thane when you touch Bombay. Then proceed onto Eastern express Highway-- left turn for Airoli bridge-- right towards Thane- Belapur road and IBIS will finally fall on your left side. Many other good hotels in Vashi,CBD,Kharghar,Nerul as well. Try Oyo rooms ( I had a superb experience with them ).

Do try to hire a knowledgeable local taxi guy. I had a contact, sorry, lost his number many years back. He took us on a great tour back then and also showed us the bungalows of many prominent Bollywood stars.
