July to October is a good season to travel on this route. Greenery all around and sunflower fields can be seen along the way. Attaching snaps on this trip.

Fantastic updates. So in summary Hospet-Gadag is almost complete and Gadag-Hubli is still far from complete then? Do Gadag, Koppal towns have bypasses now? What section are those photos?

It's taken forever for this 4-laning. I remember its atleast 5 years already.

• Hospet to Hubli: 50 % work completed.
• Near Hosalli- Ginigera Roads are non-existing, 2 Kms Road work yet to start
• Near to the villages and major junction flyovers and crossroads works are pending.
• Gadag to Hubli 90% work completed, we can maintain 90 - 100 Km Speed on this section.
• Koppal and Lakkundi by pass completed.
• Gadag National Highway Bypass not yet completed, we have to go through the old State highway bypass Road.
• Photos are from between Koppal and Gadag sections.
• Toll plazas are not yet started in the entire Hospet - Hubli Stretch.

Thanks for the detailed route information and considering the fact that you did this trip almost two months back, hopefully the roads might be in a little better condition now . So I’m planning to take this route on 30th and assuming it’ll take me at least around 12 hours to reach Hyderabad

I did this stretch again last week (24th Nov. - 29th Nov.) Here is the quick update.

Traveled on : 24th Nov. 2021
Returned on : 29th Nov. 2021.
Vehicle: Ertiga 3rd Gen. VDI.
Passengers : 3 (Myself, wife, and 14 years Son)
Route: Nacharam Hyderabad - Jadcherla- Boothpur-Mahbub Nagar- Raichur - Sindhanoor- Kampi - Ramasagar - Hospete - Koppal - Gagad - Hubli - Navanagar.

- Hyderabad Nacharam (5 AM) to Karnataka Border Krishna River Bridge (7.45 AM) 2.45 Hours.
- From Mehboob Nagar to Karnataka Border 2 way line, 90 % completed.
- Need to take diversions at 2-3 small bridges.
- Road across 2-3 villages and a Rail over bridge yet to complete.
- Raichur to Kampli - We did it in 3.5 Hours (Visited Relative house in between, had lunch, and started to Hubli at 3 PM).
- Raichur ring road to Manvi some stretches recently asplted, we can maintain 80-90 Km speed, Near to Manvi ~ 15 KM roads are not good.
- Manvi-Sidhanoor-Kartagi-Kampli Good road, and too many humps
- Kampli to Hospet Good Roads
- Tungabhadra Dam is full now, took a photo session break near the dam.
- Hospet to Hubli New 4 Lane road 95 % completed.
- Near Ginigera & Few villages roads not yet completed, I suspect these stretches will take another 1 year to complete, Work is too slow on these stretches, maybe land acquisition/compensation is delaying the road work.
- Koppal, Gadag Bye pass competed,
- We reached Hubli in 2.5 hours.
- From Hyderabad, Hubli can be reached now in an 8-9 hours drive.
- While returning I took the same route on 29th Nov.
- This is the shortest route to reach Hubli from Hyderabad.

I attempted this route on 30th November and the previous route info proved very helpful. We started at 7 AM from our hotel in Hubli and were there in our stay at Hyderabad at 6 PM. The roads were overall good but it was a busy route except for the part we were there on a big 6 lane NH 52/67, somewhere between Hubli and Raichur.

Re: Hyderabad - Hubli : Route Queries

Took Hospet - Gadag - Hubli (byepass) on 7th Dec.

Road work wise, its mostly done. The pending work is limited to around 5 sections which are mostly around overpass.

These are in Hospet - Gadag section, that too mostly between Hospet - Koppal. Past that entire road is done. No tolls yet, toll booths are present, but its kept open.

One good thing is that the Hubli bye pass is also done. So you can hit Bangalore - Hubli - Pune highway without getting in to Hubli town.

I noticed trucks taking the bypass further towards Karwar highway, not sure till where the bypass is open since I got off the NH4 exit.

However, do note that local vehicles still haven't got in to the mode of driving in dual carriage way, lots of 2 wheelers, trucks and tractors were coming in opposite lane even at locations were road work was done. Hence suggest not to get carried away with open highway and do high speeds.

Didn't notice any descent restaurants or fuel bunks, though saw one fancy looking one being constructed just outside of Gadag towards Hubli.

I will post the timing and pics in few days, yet to consolidate those.

Re: Hyderabad - Hubli : Route Queries

Did this route recently to go from Hyderabad to Goa.

Route taken:
1) Hyderabad -> Mahbubnagar via NH44: 4 line highway, mostly truck traffic. Volume of traffic is on the higher side. Low population density. Overall comfortable sector.
2) Mahbubnagar -> Raichur via NH 167: 2 lane highway, extremely low traffic density. Very low population density. Very comfortable sector.
3) Raichur -> Sindhanur -> Gangavathi via SH23: 2 lane road. High density of mixed traffic including lots of slow moving tractors. High population density. Painful sector to naviate.
4) Gangavathi -> Budugumpa Cross -> Hosapete (Hitnal Toll Booth) via SH23 & NH50: 2 lane road. Low vehicle & population density. Comfortable sector to navigate.
5) Hosapete -> Hubli via NH 67: Brand new 4 lane highway. Very low traffic & population density. New tarmac. Excellent sector to naviate.
6) Hubli -> Dharwad via NH48: 2 lane highway, high truck density. Okay sector (gets a little tiring having to constantly overtake slower moving trucks, and watching out for oncoming traffic while doing so).
7) Dharwad -> Mollem (Goa) via NH748: Mix of 2 and 4 lane road. Low traffic density, but tends to get bunched up once you hit the ghats near Mollem. Comfortable sector to navigate.

I had to travel from Secundrabad -> Goa, and covered the entire distance of 705 kms in 12.5 hours, including 2 very quick (5-10 min) stops along the way.

The next time around I plan to do this route taking national highways only:
1) Hyderabad -> Kurnool -> Gooty via NH44
2) Gooty -> Ballari -> Hosapete -> Gadag -> Hubli via NH67
The route is around 80 kms longer but I'm sure it can be covered in shorter time than using the state highway & with greater peace of mind.

• Every new journey on this route, I am experiencing road developments, hope if everything completes I may reach my native Hubli in 8-9 hours from Hyderabad.
Hi Ravyale. I realised that you from Hubli. Am planning to drive down to Goa via Hubli and wanted to check if there are anythings to watch out for.
I see that this route seems to be now improving as compared to the Gulbarga one.

Any additional info would be helpful. Also any stopovers for food apart from the ones in Hospet, which would otherwise need a detour.

Any idea on the road quality from Hospet to Hyderabad currently?

I have not done this stretch for a while now; I think the last time I did it was April 2023. At that time the road quality was decent for the first half, but the second half was pretty bad: lots of potholes, and unmarked and very poorly designed speed-breakers, and short stretches of unmetalled road.

If you are looking to go to Goa from Hyderabad, I would suggest the NH65 + NH166 route (Zaheerabad-> Solapur -> Sangli), its a superb highway with very low traffic volume.

I shall be travelling from near Kudligi to Hyderabad. Google Maps is showing below routes:
1. Shortest: Kudligi-Hosapete-Gangavathi-Sindhanur-Raichur-Jadcherla-Hyderabad
2. Medium: Kudligi-Ballari-Kurnool-Sindhanur-Raichur-Jadcherla-Hyderabad
3. Longest: Kudligi-Hosapete-Ilkal-Shorapur-Pargi-Hyderabad

As per the reviews feel the route #2 is good, but just worried about the road conditions from Kudligi to Ballari

Took the second route, but there was typo in the prev detail, should have read
Kudligi-Ballari-Kurnool-Jadcherla-Hyderabad
Distance: 490kms from my starting place (40kms to Kudligi)
Drive Time: 9hrs15min
Kudligi-Ballari is nice
Ballari-Kurnool: not good in few stretches, but good to drive with fields on both sides.
Kurnool-Hyderabad: NH44 is good as always, but there was traffic at few stretches before connecting ORR.
Food options are not great between Ballari and Kurnool, so eat something before you leave Ballari or need to wait after Kurnool.
