Chennai to Bhavani Sagar Dam

Dear Friends,

I am planning for a trip from Chennai to Bhavani Sagar and have chosen the following route.

Chennai - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Mettur - Gobichettipalayam - Satyamangalam - Bhavani Sagar.

and while coming back

Bhavani Sagar - Satyamangalam - Gobi Chettipalayam - Dharapuram - Karur - Srirangam - Villupuram - Chennai.

How is the road condition between
1. Dharmapuri and Bhavani Sagar
2. Bhavani Sagar to Srirangam, Trichy ?

Any information on this will be very much appreciated.

On the way are there any good place for sight seeing - something out of the books sort of location?

Thanks
Shankar

Shankar, one small correction to your return route.

You need not go to Dharapuram - from Sathyamangalam, you can join NH47 via Annur near Avinashi and go via Erode to Tiruchengode, Namakkal and Karur on your way to Srirangam.

I beleive that all roads in Sathyamangalam area are in good condition but construction work is on between Namakkal and Karur.

Namakkal has a famous temple too which you can drop in.

Alternatively, you can come from Sathyamangalam to Coimbatore and take the Trichy road from there via Sulur, Palladam, Gangeyam to Karur.

To go to Bhavani Sagar the route to take is

Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Thoppur - Mettur - Ammapettai (take right here towards Andiyur. Ammapettai is 20kms from Mettur) - Andiyur - Athani - Sathy - Bhavani Sagar.

No need to go to Gobi. If you have to go to Gobi for some reason, take a left just after Athani. Gobi is 13 kms from there.

Road conditions are excellent from Ammapettai till Sathy and beyond.

Easiest and good road to go to Trichy is Sathy - Coimbatore - Palladam - Kangeyam - Karur - Trichy.

If you want to avoid getting into Coimbatore then

Sathy - Annur (take left towards Avinashi) - Avinashi - Tiruppur - Kangeyam - Karur - Trichy

Wouldn't advise Avinashi - Erode currently due to road work and traffic through Erode.

Take a look at mapmyindia.com for exact route details.

Hi

Thanks for your help. Will take the CBE route on return as advised. Also I need to go to Gobi on a personal work and therefore will take the diversion as mentioned.

Thanks very much

Cheers
Shankar
