The one problem that I keep facing is planning for stopovers / meals . I donot want this topic to be limited to any one route, but as an experience sharing across all routes.

Useful for night driving too to know the tea breaks possible

Lets give it a try, will be a useful info since i have faced the same dilema during my trips, especially when accompanied by family members.

Details that should be mentioned:

Route info / NH name:

Land mark / Nearest Jn for easy identification:

Name of the joint:

Details of food and facilities available:

Your personal rating: 9/10 etc

For the love of God, can we not make wikis for all these things, instead of humongous threads?

Friends,

We all know food is very important thing when we travel. Everyone has different set of preferences. I was trying to see a consolidated list of good restaurants in Highways (NH/SH) & Tourist spots and ones which should be avoided.

Thought this thread would be a good place to get all that information in one place. (Mods, please merge/close if already there is some thread).

Let me start with few entries....

1) Bangalore to Chennai (in GQ route - NH7, NH46, NH4)
Vegetarian Restaurants:
  1. Renaisannce (after crossing Hosur town)
  2. Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) (between Hosur and Krishnagiri)
  3. Saravana Bhavan ( Vellore )
  4. Saravana Bhavan ( Kancheepuram )

2) Bangalore to Coimbatore (NH7)
Vegetarian Restaurants:
  1. Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) (between Hosur and Krishnagiri)
  2. Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) (between Dharmapuri and Thoppur)
  3. Hotel Saravana Bhavan ( in Salem town near bus stand)

Others, please add your recommendations and strict no-nos.

Hi Guys,

Could you please suggest nice food joints for tasty breakfast on the route to Shimoga. Am not keen on the ambience of the place.
I will be traveling this weekend from Bangalore at say around 6AM and am mostly looking at a food joint between Bangalore and Arsikere.

Cheers,
Anup

Kibbana Halli cross is one place where KSRTC buses stop for food. There are also some decent ones in Tiptur town on the main road closer to bus stand.

Prasad

Theres a Kamat at Dobbespete before Tumkur as well.

Thanks Prasad. Have visited that one near kibbanahalli cross, the one on the left side while going towards shimoga. The food is not so great.

I am looking at the quality as in Dobbaspet or the pavithra in tumkur.

Again tiptur, only nice joint I know of is Kamat in the city centre on the right side towards shimoga.

Guys, Any better ones. Please suggest.

Cheers,
Anup

Nice Ranjit. However it would be too early to visit this place in the morning.

Say around 8AM in the morning I will be between tumkur and arsikere I guess. So would request all to please suggest in this stretch.

Are you visiting Jog falls by any chance ? I have a plan to visit someone in Riponpet next weekend, its a deviation from Shimoga towards Ayanur, Arasalu. Its first time I am driving that direction, so curious to know more about your trip. My plan is to start early morning (6 am if possible) from BEL Circle and reach there before Lunch. Google map is suggesting a 5.30 hrs drive. No clue about road conditions right now.

I am visiting Shimoga only. My parents stay there currently.
So I will be leaving by 6AM from Bannerghatta road, taking NICE road and reach Tumkur road and further take below route.
Tumkur -> Tiptur -> Arsikere -> Kadur -> Birur -> Bhadravathi -> Shimoga.

I generally do this in 5hours or less, however I leave at 4.30 always for 2 day trips.
This time being a 3 days weekend, will be leaving by 6.
Will PM you my number, you can contact for any route details/further info.

Cheers,
Anup

No, it comes towards your right while going towards Shimoga from Bangalore, Matha Hotel I feel. It's not great over there.
Whenever I travel towards Shimoga, places where I stop for snacks are
1. Cafe Coffe day - Thanks to clean loos.
2. Kamath after Dobbespete
3. Preethi Canteen , Birur. Small canteen. Good thing is that dishes are served to the car itself. Nice idli + vada.
I usually take 4 - 4.5hrs(distance of ~285kms) to cover this distance with a snack stop.

Thanks. My concern is mainly about the present road condition. As for the driving part, MMI navigator will be reliable enough. Duration of a drive is mainly based on the road condition. Accordingly I could plan to start early or late. :thumbs up

3. Stopped in our regular pit stop - Kamat - Had cool Dahi puri.
