Weekend Getaways from Mumbai

hi all,

i was searching for a thread that started recently that was 'suggestions for team bhp by bhpians...' around the 1st anniversary. but couldn't find it - hence this new thread.

we all like to take our cars outside the city - to across town and country and enjoy drives and scenic routes...that's one of the most important points of buying a car - the pleasure of a long drive.

why don't we start a new topic called (or something like) 'weekend getaways' or 'trips out of town' so that bhpians can post their experiences on trips out of town - in a systematic way. this will help all of us to take that elusive route down into the countryside for the weekend or any other occassion.

this must include the route taken, time taken, apprx kms, stopovers, petrol pumps, cost of accomodations/hotels/lodges, things to see, tips etc...

i know i needed this when i took my 2nd weekend getaway on sunday - to kelva beach - 100kms from mumbai - i had to search the internet and finally got a wrong route! (left turn instead of right turn that was mentioned)

hey guys.. thats a great idea.....

i'd been to murud-janjira in jan... and must say.. its one excellent drive. except for a few rough patches.......

had posted a thread before leaving to gather valuable inputs and intended to post details of the entire trip.... just as cream suggested. .but never got down to writing it... but still nurture the intention... really worthwhile doing so..

I have kept a target of atleast 12 trips in 2005... most of which are gonna be road trips.... so i sure am gonna be an active contributor here.. if this so materialises..

cheers...

Vivek

that would be 52 weekend getaways... compiled by Outlook.. they have these for Mumbai/bangalore n i think delhi too..

there's another book by Milind Gunaji.. which focusses on the lesser known places in Maharashtra...

have accessed both and have found both of 'em to be quite good.... although would like to add here that the Outlook caters to our niche requirement the best...

Yup, I recently picked up the Outlook book on weekend getaways from Mumbai. It's got places I've never even heard of before! Definitely worth a buy.

Although, it does tend to paint an unrealistic picture of places at times, but then i guess that is to be expected.

try this one...

hey

try this place... its named TARKARLI.

its a beach near malvan (sindhudurg, mah).

Off the NH17 .. mumbai goa road...

goin to goa.. say a cpla hours b4r it, u will cm across a small town by the name of Kankavli; the highway passes thru this town.

Ask for directions there.

As a beach, its way better than goa, ganpatiphule et al

Beautiful stretches of white sands!! with just one MTDC resort thr.

Also, before kankavli, there is another small town, which has an equally classy beach.. its by the name of Kunkeshwar

I guess ppl in kankavli will b able to guide u better.

Try these locations ppl.. though recommended mainly during winter.

They are nothing short of "out of this world"

P.S.: Got another location in mind.. wil post it later.. for the monsoons!

For those in Bangalore, Vythiri in Wayanad is one good weekend getaway.. They even showed that once on the weekend getaway program in star world.. It was the one where Charu Sharma and his sone on a E class, compressor come to Vythiri resort.. Its fantastic..
I just luv the place.. I'm sure most of u will.. Get to see a lot of KA reg cars there.. Its catching up to become one place many B'lore magas prefer coming to..
