To reach Yercaud from Palakkad, take NH47 via Coimbatore (bypass from Madukarai), Avinashi, Perunthurai, Bhavani, Sankari to Salem. Without going into Salem town, turn into NH7 (towards Bangalore), and watch out for a right turn to Yercaud.

I found Hotel Tamil Nadu a nice place to stay at Yercaud.

From Yercaud, return to Salem and take NH7 towards Bangalore. Pass Omalur and Toppur and climb up the ghat towards Dharmapuri. Before reaching Dharmapuri, take a left fork road towards Palakode/Rayakotttah, while the road on the right fork goes towards Dharmapuri/Bangalore. Some distance down this road, you will see a left turn to Hogenekkal.

I have no idea about hotels in Hogenekal - did a day trip, never stayed there.

Palakkad-Walayar 25 kms-Coimbatore Bypass beginning 12-Bypass end 27-Avinashi 27-Perunthurai 37 - Bhavani 25-Sankari 23-large junction before Salem where you turn left onto NH7 35-Right turn into Salem town onto Yercaud route 2-3 kms-turn to left onto Yercaud road 2-Yercaud 28

Yercaud-Salem 30-Omalur 12-Toppur 24-Left tturn towards Palakode 19-turn left after approx 5 kms-Peenagram 23 - Hogenekkal 17

Hogenekal-Peenagram 17-turn right 23-NH7 5-Toppur 19-turn right-Mecheri 19-Mettur Dam 16-Bhavani 47-turn right onto Nh47-Perunthurai 25-Avinashi 37-Coimbatore bypass 27-bypass end 27-Palakkad 37

HVK - Dont you think it would be better to take a right turn towards NH68 at Salem byepass and then take the turn to Yercaud road, I have been to Salem a few times, am not aware of a road which leads to Yercaud from NH7.

Srikanth,

When I drove down to Yercaud, I remember turning left off NH7 into Salem town at a point 12 kms from Omalur. Go on this road 2 kms (saw some petrol pumps on this road, but don't remember the road's name) and you will a road going off to the left (actually, the main road veers to the right and the Yercaud road goes straight) which is the Yercaud road. There are no turn offs after that. The same applies when you come from Coimbatore side. Keep coming on NH7 44 kms from Toppur to Nandi Circle on NH7 (Left-Salem town, Straight NH7 Namakkal, Right NH47 Coimbatore). The road I am referring to is 8 kms before Nandi Circle (when coming from Bangalore).

Maybe Salem-ites can shed some more light on the exact coordinates/ landmarks.

What you are referring is possibily the Dwaraka junction (Five Roads Jn.) if I have understood you correct, the road goes via Fairlands after which you get the turn off to Yercaud.

In hindsight what you say would be the best option. Take a left at Nandi circle, go towards Bangalore cross the Over bridge, reach until the circle where left goes to Salem Jn. and right goes to Salem town, take the right reach upto Dwarka Jn. where right goes to Salem bus stand left again goes to Bangalore straight goes to Yercaud via Fairlands. This is the regular route to Yercaud which most take when going from Salem

Cheers Srikanth
