I am scheduled to travel on 22nd Dec to Odisha and am still a bit confused with regards to the time taken to reach Nagpur from Pune.

Has anyone travelled on this route (Pune-Nagpur/Nagpur-Pune) post the inauguration who can help me with the entry/exit points and also the time taken to complete the distance?
This would be my recommended route - https://goo.gl/maps/Djjaq17cWNi4JA4n7
Although Google says 15-16 hrs, this can be covered in 11-12 hours. The Samruddhi Mahamarg is open and make the best use of it. Traffic is sparse and you can maintain a good speed and cover the distance quck and stress free. Do fuel up prior to hitting the expressway and carry snacks/food.

A youtube search will throw up recent videos of the route https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/samruddhiexpressway

This particular video is quite useful. It details out the time taken and toll charges as well. This gent covered Nagpur-Shirdi in 4.45 hrs and Shirdi-Nagpur in 5.20 hrs. That's quite impressive considering GMap still shows 11+ hrs.

The stretch looks so barren though. Will be great to have amenities up and running soon.

Re: Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries

My folks did Nagpur to Shirdi, darshan and then back to Nagpur in about 12 hours door to door a week back.

excellent road and sparse traffic. There is some work going on in a few places where the road narrows a bit.

No way side amenities apartment from fuel stations as yet

Wow!
Google Map says 8 hrs 25 minutes. Looks like they averaged <6 hours.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I think for folks doing Pune Nagpur, the sensible thing to do would be topping up the tanks near Waluj, just before joining the SMM.
Ditto on the way back.
At least till fuel pumps become reliably active on the SMM.

Any idea on what's the rule for stopping? Is it forbidden like the Mumbai Pune Expressway? I suppose SMM would offer numerous pic worthy spots. Will be nice if we can pull over and bring out the cameras.

yup, about 5 hour 30 mins which includes 20-25 mins out of Nagpur City

They stopped for a few clicks, mostly near the entry and a quick one along the route while changing drivers.

I've made a video during my recent drive for the benefit of fellow travelers when joining the SMM from Yavatmal (Deogaon) towards Aurangabad/Mumbai.

I can recount atleast 3 operational fuel pumps, one of which I actually stopped for toilet break on the Nagpur - Aurangabad direction. This HP pump had tea seller and veggies/fruit seller making brisk business than the fuel retailer

I found few cars/people stopping on shoulders on either side inspite of big boards mentioning its prohibited to stop. One naive family actually had spread a bedsheet and put out eatables. I guess highway patrol vehicles which were roaming would have asked them to pack up later.

Yavatmal to Verul toll costed me Rs 590/-

Aurangabad to Nagpur is 5-6 hours, Pune to Aurangabad can be anything between 3.5 to 5 depending upon the time of start from Pune.

Re: Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries

I agree with wasim. I did pune nagpur on 24th dec and started at 4.45am and reached the interchange near Waluj at 10.30 with 1 hour breakfast break with kids. From SMM it took 4.5hrs to reach nagpur.

While coming back we started at 4.30 and took same time from nagpur to aurangabad, but from there to pune ( magarpatta)around 225km it took us 6.5hrs with 1 hr break.

Re: Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries

I just came across this thread while reading about fellow BHPians experiences on the Samruddhi Mahamarg.

Based on the name of the thread, being a native of Aurangabad, I’d just like to give my two cents (paise?) as a suggestion.

For those travelling from Pune to Nagpur via Samruddhi Mahamarg you may notice three options once you reach Waluj on the outskirts of Aurangabad.

1. Travelling through the city and going all the way to Harsul/Sawangi interchange, which many have been doing.

While this route would be a bit easy on your pocket (saving chai and biscuits worth of money for a group of 4) it would lead you through parts of the city and the outskirts which are a bit time-consuming.

2. Crossing Waluj and going Upto Nagar Naka- taking a left turn towards Daulatabad/Ellora road ( read Padegaon and Mitmita for cartographers!) eventually joining Dhule-Solapur Highway to reach the Takli interchange.

I would personally recommend you to follow with of the other two route and us this one only if you happen to visit Daulatabad fort or Ellora on the way.

3. As soon as you cross Waluj and reach an intersection just before AS Club, you’ll notice the Dhule-Solapur highway going across the intersection. Take a left- enter the highway and cruise on a dual carriageway all the way up to Takli interchange which you would reach in less than half an hour.

There is a toll booth on the way but if you, like me would prefer convenience over traffic paying a wee bit extra, you’ll like this option.

The same would apply for those going to Pune from Nagpur. Go all the way Upto Takli interchange and go onto Dhule Solapur highway (you may have to add a stop at AS club on google maps, since google would take you through the Padegaon route (Option 2) by default to avoid tolls.

For regular travellers, this would be a one-time hassle which would be easy to remember in subsequent trips.

Of course you can choose any of these options as of date but in case you need help navigating though our little city, this post may help you.

Thanks for sharing this. Being a native certainly gives you very specific perspectives of the most optimized route

For Pune to Nagpur journey, if I were to avail of the 3rd option mentioned by you, I have tried to trace the diversions on GMaps:-

First:-

Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries-screenshot-20230119-173732.png

Second, and crossing the Karodi toll plaza en route:-

Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries-screenshot-20230119-174033.png

And the third diversion:-

Pune - Nagpur : Route Queries-screenshot-20230119-174505.png

Can you confirm if these 3 diversion routes are correct?

Absolutely Spot-on! Enter the Dhule-Solapur Highway on the intersection before AS Club (image-1), cross the toll plaza and don’t leave the highway until you see the exit ramp and signs for Samruddhi Mahamarg.

Just need to mention that the extra distance that you cover on the Expressway would be 22 kms Upto the Harsul-Sawangi interchange which you would have taken if you used option 1.

It translates to an extra 38 odd rupees in the expressway (22x 1.73) plus the toll you would pay for the brief stint on the Dhule-Solapur Highway.

In case you’re low on fuel while crossing Waluj, there is a HP CoCo Petrol pump that you can use to tank-up without worrying about being fleeced. (I usually use the HP CoCo petrol pumps at Waluj or Supa while travelling on the Aurangabad-Pune route)

Thanks for the confirmation. Just like you mentioned, I would prefer to travel the slightly longer Dhule-Solapur highway route since it will be faster than traversing through the city.

Again, thanks for the tip. Always useful to know about COCO pumps
