Any update on the Nagpur-Pune route ? I know the road condition till Karanja from Nagpur. Also know that the Aurangabad-Pune route is 4 lane throughout.
Concerned about the route between Karanja to Aurangabad.

Could anyone please share how is the road condition now from Pune to Nagpur now, after these couple of months of heavy rainfall?

as per one colleague who did Mumbai - Nagpur in car last week : both the usual routes are very bad, increased a lot of travel time, and his car faced some damaged due to large potholes.

Nashik - Dhule - Akola - Amravati - Nagpur and Nagpur - Amravati - Karanga - Lonar - Aurangabad - Nashik - Mumbai are bad and can't be ridden on a bike.


He did some alternatives :
Mumbai - Nashik - Dhule - Jalgaon - Buldhana - Chilkli - Amravati - Nagpur.

Extract from my chat with him : "This route has well laid out roads till Dhule, then you will get few potholes between Dhule and Jalgoan - road from there till Chikli is good but route from Chikli to Nagpur via amravati is butter smooth, did 120 plus constantly."
"The alternaltive route that I am talking about has about 30 kms of bad patch on other wise well laid out road but it becomes about 150 kms longer."

Just within a month, few of us have planned a bike trip to Nagpur/Umred, and hopefully the roads are better. Any update most appreciated.

Hi, I'm planning on traveling by road from Pune to Nagpur in December. I've done this route about three or four times earlier the latest being December 2018. The route used by me was Pune- Ahmednagar- Aurangabad- Jalna- Sindkhedraja- Mehkar- Karanja- Amravati- Nagpur. Although the road wasn't so great between Jalna and Amravati last time around, the entire journey could be completed in about 11 hours if one started early from Pune.
My query is off course about the condition of the road currently or if anyone has any suggestions on alternative routes.
Also any information on the route beyond to Mukki MP would be welcome.

Did Pune Nagpur on this route roughly a month back.
The same patch (Aurangabad-Amravati) continues to be bad. In fact due to this year's rains, its become even more worse.
Mekhar Sultanpur region are the worst of the worst.
I would suggest, if possible, try and plan your timing in such a way that you clear this patch during daytime.

RedTerrano how long did it take you to reach Nagpur? Did you take the Aurangabad-Jalna-Mehkar-Karanja-Amravati route ? Can it be done in a day,say if I start at 6 am from Nagpur towards Pune.

Yes. Same route.
Took me ~14-15 hours. Including restroom and lunch break.
Plus I was stopped 4 times for car checking due to election season.
It is definitely doable in one day.

The trick is to start early and reach the outskirts of Pune around 3 pm. This will help avoiding the traffic from the industrial belt (Ranjangaon, Samaswadi etc. ) For this a 4 am start is required.
Nagpur to Amravati 2 to 2.5 hours. Onwards to Jalna and further to Aurangabad by 11.30 pm. Won't recommend the use of Aurangabad bypass. Ahmednagar to be crossed straight through the city ( again avoid the bypass) in the relatively less traffic of the afternoon. Outskirts of Pune by 3 pm.
Lunch or brunch outside Jalna or Aurangabad
The time estimated depends on the road conditions from Karanja to Jalna.

Yes because you would be crossing Aurangabad at midday and it wouldn't make much of a difference. Besides you could grab a quick bite at a QSR this way.
Also please note that you would arrive at Bhima Koregaon or Wagholi at 3 or 4 pm. Thereon entry into Pune would take about an hour or more for the last 20 odd kms making this a 12 to 13 hour journey at the minimum while driving constantly.
Please post your experience in case you plan to do this route.

Driving down from Pune to Kanha (MP) probably via Nagpur on Tuesday evening. Not sure which route to take from Jalna to Amravati - via Chikhli or via Mehkar. Any suggestions in this regard and also updates on latest road conditions between this route would be appreciated.

You get to choose between good roads (Chikhli) but longer distance, or bad roads (Mekhar) but shorter distance.
Most of the Chikhli route is cemented. Mekhar is a terrible mess as always. I think the road condition and inverse distance combination will result in same commute time. You might want to check google maps to confirm this.
If you are travelling with family, and time permits, I would suggest Chikhli.

Note: My experience is a few months old. Things might have changed in the meanwhile.

Thanks. Distance and time is not a problem. As suggested then I would go by Chikhali road. Will update here the experience once I reach Kanha on 26th. Thanks again.

I drove from Pune to Washim this Diwali. The road after Jalna was terrible.
