Route Suggestions:Gurgaon-Rampur-Nainital route?

Hello friends,

Comming weekend, I will be driving to Udhamsingh Nagar ( Kichha) to attend a family wedding. As I have time after attending the wedding, I plan to visit Nainital for a day. Please send me the route and good food joints in between? Also mention things which I should take care of, I am driving with family in the car.
Since I have never driven on this route before, Needs directions, Food joints, Petrol Bunks etc.

I am planning to start early in the morning from gurgaon(5.00am)
Guys, Please help.

Cheers
GD

Do you want the route from Kichha to Nainital? It's a straight road, via Pantnagar, Lalkuan, Haldwani and Kathgodam. The road is 2 laned but good, and traffic also isn't very much.
Distances are -

Kichha to Pantnagar - 13 KMs
PantNagar to Haldwani - 25 KMs
Haldwani to kathgodam - 4 KMs
Kathgodam to Nainital - 35 KMs

There are a few decent restaurants in Haldwani (try Nanak), and a good udupi joint 3 KMs after Kathgodam towards Nainital.

Oh... I just read you full post, you need directions from Gurgaon as well.

From Gurgaon, reach Dhaulakuan, then take the ring road till Sarai Kalekhan, from there take a right turn towards NH-24. Pass Hapur, Garhmukteshwar, Gajraula, Moradabad. Don't go inside Mordabad, take the by-pass. Drive to Rampur. From Rampur take a left turn towards Bilaspur, go straight till Rudrapur. From Rudrapur take a right turn towards Kichha (straight goes to Haldwani/Pantnagar).

If you leave at 5:00 AM, you shouldn't encounter much traffic, and should be able to cross Rampur by 9:00.

There are many Roadside dhabas on the road. I prefer to stop at the Reliance A-1 Plaza between Moradabad and Rampur.

Cheers

Nitin, Thanks for that info..
That will really help.
I knew how to reach till hapur, but after that I don't have any idea.

Thanks for telling that there is a A1 plaza in between.

btw, How is the overall road conditions till Kichha? Is it double lane?

cheers

Till Mordabad it's a combination of single lane and double lane. After Mordabad it's all single lane.

But since you will be leaving early morning, you shouldn't face much problem.

While returning back from Nainital, you can take the route via Ramnagar. Search on the forum, there is a thread posted by tsk1979 which have details about that route.

GreatDrive: Instead of going via Dhaula Kuan I would suggest you to take the MG road and then turn right after Ahimsa Sthal on the Lado sarai road and then left at Khanpur crossing. Drive straight crossing chirag delhi intersection and then under the Moolchand flyover turn right on ring road. Head straight and just before DND turn left and then onto the Hapur bypass road.

Since you are leaving at 5, this will be clearer and shorter than the dhaula kuan as you will get caught in the truck traffic at that hour as they all will be entering the city.

And just after Ghaziabad remeber to take the wrong side road to avoid the Commercial toll tax barrier. Here you'll find mile long que of trucks/trailers.

Your target should be to cross ghazibad by 5:30 latest. We did that a fortnight ago when we went to Dudhwa about which you can read elsewhere..

Update:
Just came back from the trip.

Took this route as suggested.

Delhi- Ghaziabad- Hapur - Moradabad - Rampur - Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Kichha.

Road till Rampur is okay, After that its a nightmare, Rampur-Bilaspur-Rudrapur strech is pathetic.

Came back by another route suggested by locals which was really good and it was only 9-10 km more.

It was Rudrapur - Gadarpur - Dauraha - Tanda which takes you to the bypass of Rampur-Muradabad Bypass. Roads on this strech were in excellent conditions with very less traffic.

cheers
