Hope I'm not too late for the response. Ever since you posted this question, I was hoping that someone would respond, as I had plans to travel to Gulbarga.
My membership got approved today and here goes my first post for the benefit of other travelers in this route.
I travelled from Bangalore to Gulbarga last week and followed this route: Bangalore >> Chitradurga >> Hospet >> Hundgund >> Devarhippargi >> Sindagi >> Jevargi >> Gulbarga.
Except for one stretch of 500m near Huvinhipparagi, excellent roads all the way till Gulbarga.
Started from Bangalore at 530am and reached the destination comfortably by 430pm with 3 stops in between.
We followed the same route for the return journey but took around 12 hours to reach our home in Bangalore, thanks to weekend traffic in Tumkur and Bangalore.

Some of the breakfast/lunch options in this route:
1. Upadhya Ruchi, NH48, Near Chitradurga (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vz6UYuhmXmXcuP9o9)
2. Anand Vihar, NH50, Hulikere (https://maps.app.goo.gl/8jfVMhSfMLs84ELj9)
3. Nandagokula Veg Restaurant, Kushtagi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/7bQALyHddu7WwFeD9)

Note: I recommend UPADHYA RUCHI as this is the only place I visited for breakfast (onward journey) and lunch (return journey). However, I had made a note of Anand Vihar and Nandagokula restaurant as they looked decent.

Thanks for replying. I started on Thursday to beat the long weekend traffic.

I took the BLR> Kurnool> Mahbubnagar > Kosgi > Sedam route. There wasn't much traffic.

Started from BLR at 11am.
Stopped for breakfast at Nandi Upachar.
Stopped at Kritunga, Kurnool at 3:45. There were many speed breakers on the highway at intersections till Kurnool. They reduced after that.

Got stuck in Mahbubnagar for 50 minutes due to traffic and a railway crossing. After that the road quality drops. So you have decent roads where you can go at 80 and then sudden patches of road work where you have to slow down to a full stop. This goes on till Kosgi.
After that you had good roads at the last stretch and once you cross into Karnataka, but there are speed breakers again at intersections.

Reached Kalaburagi at 10:40pm.

Apparently there is work going on near Raichur. The detour is very long (not sure of the details). So that route is to be avoided unless you get specifics.

I guess on the way back, I'll take the route you mentioned. I'm also curious to take the Vijayapur route once. I'll be traveling this stretch often. I'll post an update after the trip. Thanks again for the detailed note including food stops!

Re: Bangalore to Gulbarga : Route Queries

Hi Guys,
I'm travelling to Kalaburagi soon. Was planning on taking the Mantralayam route (BLR>Gooty>Mantralayam>Raichur>Yadgiri>Kalaburagi) . Has anyone taken that route recently? Any feedback on the route/other routes?

Gooty-Aspari-Adoni is mostly good, you can maintain 60-80. Please watchout for occasional broken sections.

Adoni bypass-Yemmiganur-Mantralayam is excellent wide 2-lane road.

Mantralayam-Madhavaram-Raichur is again 60-80 due to traffic. Roads are in good shape though.

Beyond that I don't know.

Re: Bangalore to Gulbarga : Route Queries

I came back from a trip to Bidar; the return journey was via Gulbarga in the Shakuntala Travels bus. The roads are good till Surapur and thereafter a nightmare till we reach Bellary. Traveling in a sleeper bus, and that too in the last seat, gave me a bumpy experience during midnight. I wonder when this road will be developed. The experience with the sleeper bus was disappointing, as the bus was not cleaned at all, there were frequent stops, the worst resting point, and cold air leaking windows for the hefty ticket fare left me shocked.
