Not a bad option to go via MM hills. Its a bit more desolate. Also I hope you plan to cross the bridge on Cauvery at T-Narasipura?

If time is not your priority and you wish to try adventurous routes, then the above route is OK. Remember traffic on Kollegal-MM hills stretch will be virtually nill. IMO not worth the risk.

Thanks friends,

I am back in Mysore from the Trichy trip. I took the following route both ways.

Mysore-->Bangalore-->Salem-->Namakkal-->Musuri-->Gunasheelam-->Trichy. I some how missed the bridge at Musuri to cross over to HN.

The road all through is fine especially Namakkal to Musuri. But Musuri to Trichy is patchy and single lane but ok for a sedan. Sand trucks are relatively less compared to NH road, which I had issues last time.

I started from Mysore at 7 am after a pit stop at MTR at Maddur I drove non stop to Namakkal. Reached there by 2:45 pm and had lunch at a hotel outside Namakkal. OK stuff. Reached Trichy by 3:30 pm. Stayed at PL.A Rathna Residency near Central Bus stand. Good budget hotel (2000 for ac double room)

Thanks again all of you for your inputs.

Next time when you visit Trichy, try to book accomodation in Hotel Mayas. This is close to Karur-Trichy NH and the ambience is very good. Overall a good place to stay.

Going via Bangalore was HUGE roundabout in my opnion. You need not have gone through that option at all. You should have just got down via Dimbam via Chamarajanagar and taken the Karur route. No point going to Bangalore for a Mysore-Trichy routing.

Would have saved you time on the Mysore road and also Bangalore-Krishnagiri section, thanks to traffic at Hosur.

Totally understand the reasons! But also look from that point that you can get down the ghats under half an hour. And its HUGE time saved along with the fact, that you encounter much less a traffic compared to what you would see on Mysore-Bangalore-Hosur section! Its not that long a ghat section.

Update on Thuraiyur Road condition:

Last weekend, I took Trichy-Pagalvadi-Senthamangalam-Buthan Santhai - Salem while returning to Bangalore https://goo.gl/maps/OFzFW

I am pleased to report that the entire stretch is patched now clap:

Earlier (2 months back), the stretch between Pagalvadi-Kannanur and Alanganatham Pirivu - Senthamangalam was very rough with lot of potholes.

Now it is completely patched. Though uneven at places, the entire stretch is decent and drivable.

Again it has become a good option to bypass Namakkal and the mad lorry traffic during evening/night drives.

To summarize:
You can take Thuraiyur road to bypass Namakkal if you wish to join Srirangam/Tolgate in Trichy and vice versa. This works especially well if you are ought to cross Namakkal during evening/night. During day time, it gets crowded due to huge number of lorries using this bypass.

If you want to get into the city, then you can still take Namakkal-Musiri-Kulithalai stretch which is equally good except a stretch of broken road for 1-2 kms between Thottiyam-Musiri. Beware of high lorry traffic during night drives.

Hi All,

Planning to go on a road trip to Trichy from Bangalore next week. I am planning to take Hosur- Krishnagiri- Dharmapuri- Salem- Namakkal- Thottiyam- Musiri- Trichy- Thanjavur Road- BHEL (Trichy) route to reach the destination (BHEL).

Is there a better route compared to the above? Can someone who did a Bangalore - Trichy trip recently provide the latest update on road conditions?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Did this route two weeks back and it was in very good condition all the way. Even bad sections between Thottiyam and Musiri has been done up. So, you can stick to this route.

Drove yesterday to Trichy.

Banglore - Namakkal.

Four laned so no issues.

Namakkal- Thottiyam

Good roads throughout some stretch roads reflectors make driving easy.

Thottiyam - upto Anna bridge which cross over to Kulithalai.

Good roads in between towns slows down with speed breakers.

Anna bridge to Musiri.
About 3 kms average roads rough stretch no potholes.

Musiri- Tollgate- Trichy.

Good roads throughout.

Namakkal to Thottiyam took about half an hour.
Thottiyam to tollgate took about 40 mins.
This was night drive after 11pm.

Many thanks 'nfsfreak'. Just did this during weekend and road was in good shape throughout. Your reply helped me to plan the route and is highly appreciated :thumbs up

On return from Trichy tried Thuraiyur Budansandai route.

The stretch between Pagalvadi - Kannanur is average about 6kms.

Rest of the route via Alangantham pirivu to Senthamangalam is good.

Lots of speedbreakers between Senthamangalam and Budansandai.

I took this route to bypass Namakkal

I am seeing below route as an alternative to Bangalore-Namakkal-Thuraiyur-Trichy & Bangalore-Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy.

Bangalore-Salem-Thammampatti-Uppiliapuram-Thuraiyur-Trichy

Anyone tried this route (atleast recently) and how are the road conditions, if so ?

Last time I remember someone mentioning it to be bad because of bad Attur road. Now that section has cleaned up nicely, it might be worth a try. But that means you do a distance of 150+ km on 2-lanes.
