Dear BHPians

Anyone who visited Trichy recently and took the Musri route ?

Would love to know the road conditions on that route or would sticking to Pagalavadi route is a better option

Cheers

Stick to Thuraiyur Road/Pagalavadi/Kannanur/Trichy route.
I traveled in the musiri route on 10th Dec and the road conditions are not good, particularly around thottiyam area.

I traveled to Tanjavur, Srirangam, Madurai and to reach Tanjavur took the Namakkal - Thottiyam - Musiri route. The two-laned road was good and hardly any bad stretches. http://goo.gl/maps/Fz9rA : This is the route.

@ravib and @alok - Conflicting inputs - But looks like I may have to stick to you ravib as I have multiple feedback that this route is better compared to anything else

Thanks

Guy, I leave to Bangalore from Trichy tomo. I am new to this city, hence my post. My query is pertaining to the Thuraiyur route. Would this route mean that I have to go all the way upto Thuraiyur town or just bypass it through kannanur onto the thuraiyur road? and again the age old question, would this save me more time than the Musiri route which is suggested by google maps as the default route?

You don't have to go till Thuraiyur town while coming from Trichy.
Once you cross Jayaram college (which will be on your right), take the left which is a small road that goes directly towards Kannanur/Pagalavadi. Even if you miss that left, nothing to worry. Go further via thuraiyur town and then proceed towards Namakkal.

Time wise more or less both are same, but driving wise definitely it is stress free because traffic is less and you won't see much buses/trucks.
If you time your travel, may be you can do it in lesser time as well compared to Musiri route.

I visited Tanjavur between Dec 25th and 27th. For the onward journey, I took the Namakkal-Musiri route and for the return journey, I took the Pagalavadi-Kannanur-Alanganatham Pirivu-Senthamangalam-Budhan Sandhai route. The Pagalavadi route is far far better than the Musiri route. The road surface is very smooth and wider too.

Between Alanganatham Pirivu and Senthamangalam, I found a lot of truck traffic. Apparently, the truck drivers are also aware of this short cut to skip Namakkal.

Thanks for the update.
How is the road condition between Senthamangalam-Budhan Sandhai route.
Need to travel to Srirangam for this Pongal.

Dear BHPians

Just travelled to Trichy and back via Thuraiyur route. Completed the 90 odd kms in around 90 mins both ways. Highly recommended over Musri , Thottiyam which is still as good as this one

Thanks

Senthamangalam-Budhan Sandhai route is in good condition, though not recently tarred. The Senthamangalam-Alanganatham Pirivu is also good, but it is narrow (1.5 lanes), so if there is lorry traffic, we will end up driving slower. However, this route is still better than going through Namakkal town traffic.

Was in Srirangam for this Pongal.

Route taken from Salem-Budhan Sandhai-Senthamangalam-Kannanur-Srirangam.

The roads are good throughout. The road from Kannanur to Pagalvadi was a single road
this has been widened to dual carriage way.

I was travelling in the midnight so it took 1.15mins from Budansandai to Srirangam.

The Kulithalai-Trichy route is done completely now and is a faster option to reach trichy city if you are taking Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy route.

If you are going to Srirangam or TV Koil, then you can take either conventional Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy route via Gunaseelam or Namakkal-Kannanur-Pagalvadi-Nochiyam-Trichy route.

Directions to quickly reach Karur-Trichy highway from Musiri:

Once you cross periyar bridge, you need to take the left (towards town) and then take the immediate left that goes via Kadambhuvaneswarar Temple which would connect you to Karur-Trichy highway.

Is this completely done till Jeeyapuram ? Any work started from Jeeyapuram to Panchapur on ring road connectivity ?

Kulithalai-Trichy is completely done till Trichy. As far as I could recollect, no work started on ring road connectivity. Updates are of last week (btw, the ring road is news for me but when done, would be great for Madurai connectivity).

Just did Bangalore - Trichy - Bangalore a week back. Following is the route I took.

Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Salem - Karur (ByePass) - Laalapetai - Kulithalai - Trichy (Chatram Busstand)

Its an additional 40kms in comparison to the traditional Namakal - Thotiyam - Kulithalai route but makes up in terms of road conditions with wide roads and 4 lanes. Its 4 lanes all the way from Bangalore to Laalapetai (via Karur bye pass, dont get into the town). From Laalapetai to Kulithalai its 2 lane but wide and generous shoulder space. From Kulithailai its the common route that narrows down after Jeeyapuram. Condition of the route except a few meters around Jeeyapuram, is excellent throughout (Am discounting the work on Hosur strech). Time taken is almost the same (probably 10 - 15 additional minutes) in comparison to the Thotiyam option. But the time and distance is made up in terms of road conditions. However do note that the Trichy - Karur road does have heavy truck traffic.

As a reference, when going from Bangalore to Trichy, one should go past Karur on the highway for 3.8 Kms and exit on to the Trichy bypass (1.2 Kms past the bridge on amaravathi river). While coming back its easier, once you take the Karur byepass from Chatram bus stop, just keep on the road. It dead-ends at the Madurai Salem highway.
