Travel time : Friday 1 PM start at Bangalore (Jeevan Bhima Nagar) - 8 PM Trichy ( Thillai Nagar), Monday 6 AM start from Trichy - 12.15 PM arrival in Bangalore. Pretty relaxed drive ( less than 100 kmph for most periods). Onwards Namakkal - Trichy took around 2+ hours ( late evening drive) while it took less than 1.30 hours during the return.
Last heard was Namakkal-Musiri stretch via thottiyam was bad. Have they filled all potholes and is the road now full of patches, when you say its pretty decent?

Yes, no potholes now. Some stretches appeared to be tarred recently. Except for the high beam from vehicles coming from the opposite side no other issues.

So would you say this is a better option compared to Thuraiyur for night drives?
Looks like road wise there is not a major issue.

I haven't tried the Thuraiyur route yet. But yes, the road itself is not a major issue in this route.

Status Quo.

One can choose either of the two sides of Cauvery depending which part of Trichy needs to be bypassed.

ITPL to Vaithheeswaran Koil

Google suggests the following route. How good is this route? Are there alternatives better than this? Thanks in advance.

I can tell you upto Virudhachalam, the roads are excellent (except for diversions upto Krishnagiri). Beyond that i am not aware of the road conditions.

But i think you should take this route, because almost 80% of the route, you have 4L and definitely a worth try.

Planning a drive to trichy next week, any inputs on:

A) Is the google map directions right ( when you try namakkal - trichy, via thuraiyur? Especially the cross over stretch between SH 161 and SH 62 ( kannanur - pagalavadi )

B) how's the road condition now?

Thanks

Yes it's correct. Road condition is good. That's the best route as of now to reach trichy from nammakal. Once you reach kannanur keep looking for sign board with arrow mark pointing right for "Trichy". You need to take a right there to connect pagalavadi just before Jayaram college of engineering.

Drive. safe & have a wonderful trip.

Just back from Bangalore-Trichy-Bangalore drive. I did Namakkal-Trichy-Namakkal via Musiri both ways.

This route is in very good condition as of now (equally good compared to Thuraiyur option). Most of the stretch is relaid and felt quicker than the other route (I used to travel every month to trichy in Thuraiyur route for past 1.5 years). The only problem I could think of is lorry traffic especially in night.

So, I would suggest to take Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy if you are not crossing namakkal after dark.

PS: Avoid Musiri-Kulithalai-Trichy and take straight forward route via Nochiyam.

re: Bangalore to Trichy : Route Queries

I have done Bangalore - Trichy & back over the last weekend - onward via Thuraiyur route & return via Musiri.

Thuraiyur Route - the small village road stretch (4.5kms) - that connects Kannanur & Pagalavadi is dug up for widening, work is going on. It leaves only a narrow path for most part. Other than this, the roads are pretty good.

Musiri Route - As nfsfreak mentioned, the road condition is pretty good and done up, as good as the Thuraiyur stretch. I left Trichy at 5am, and no lorry traffic at all, surprisingly. Looks like there's some ban or stoppage in the sand lorry traffic.

Thanks

re: Bangalore to Trichy : Route Queries

Hi Folks,

I just finished my trip from Bangalore to Trichy during this long weekend. Started from Bangalore on 14th afternoon 3 p.m. and reached trichy at 10:00 p.m. thanks to the horrible traffic near electronic city and an accident near attibelle. Took the Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Salem - Namakkal - Trichy via musiri. The road conditions are excellent throughout. The road via musiri is in good shape with occasional potholes which was not an issue for my scorpio. The only issue is with the single lane and the vehicles coming in from the opposite direction with their high beams on.

Stayed at PLA residency, near Chatram bus stand. A very decent hotel with good service. They have good parking too.

One good thing that I noticed while travelling on the roads in tamilnadu is minimum speed breakers. Even where the road zips through villages, I found absolutely no speed breakers and people taking care to cross roads . Compared to that in karnataka you have speed breakers everywhere. I wonder we would very soon find one or two speed breakers on the elevated flyovers as well .

Cheers

We finally have some water in the river Cauvery. So no sand to dig. Regarding the Musiri route, the stretch from Thottiyam to Tollgate is full of serpentine curves with lots of undulating bouncy bumps. My wife gets motion sickness at any speed above 40 kmph on that route. The Thuraiyur route was better in that aspect.
