On 21/04/2010, the Trichy Thanjavur turn off to Thanjavur (Oriental Towers Hotel) (59km) distance was done in 1hr 17mts running time between 1627hrs and 1805hrs.

The mess has mostly turned into decent roads.

How is the Musiri route now?

Hi All - planning a BLR-Trichy trip next week.
All directions here point to BLR-Salem-Namakkal-Trichy via Musiri

1) Any details/directions on how to get to Musiri route from Namakkal?
2) How is the Musiri road now?

Thanks

I think NH7 cleanly by-passes Namakkal. You will need to go into the town to take the Musiri road.
Others can comment.

As Ampere said you would be traversing the periphery of Namakkal and not cut through the town.

1. Look at the route map i posted. you take the diversion. ( ~ 35-38 kms from the flyover after at salem which is the deviation towards Namakkal).Once u have taken the diversion you follow along for about 2-3 kms and a the dead end take the left and again just follow the main road till you get to a signal ( which is just 50 mts after Namakkal bus stand). There will be a board at that circle indicating Trichy is 85 kms. At that circle you take a left and just continue on the same stretch till the next circle (tollgate - 85 kms from namakkal) and a right would take you to Trichy city.
2. The Musiri -Trichy stretch is doable by 60-80kmph. Roads are patched up but still potholes are present to give you an adventurous drive .

If you are heading to srirangam Toll gate entry is the best way to go.

One has to be really careful about these NH. Almost all of them bypass the towns and villages. If one has to take to a branch road,
he needs to watch out the signboards to enter into the town, if the branch road starts from the town.

Else one wont even realize and withing seconds would Kms away from the town.

A case in point: I had to turn to Kangeyam road at Perindurai (On NH47) while going to Munnar. Perindurai town is about 4Km away
from NH47, from where the SH starts. I forgot to take the turn to the town of NH47 and before I realized I was 4Km ahead on NH47.

Hi CSateesh,

The roads are 4 laned all the way till Namakkal. Once you take a diversion to the left towards trichy the roads are 80% ok and you can maintain a speed limit of 60-70. There are some rough patches intermittently for about 5-6 kms..If you enter trichy via karur the roads are horrible and potholes are huge. The best route is to continue via thottiyam -- musiri -- TollGate.

Just follow the picture diagram at Namakkal.
Don't take NH67 but take the SH via Musiri.

Thanks. I too am planning to visit Srirangam this weekend. Glad I saw your reply - I'll make sure I stay on the SH from Musiri to Srirangam.

I also plan to go to Madurai from Trichy. Is NH45B the best option? How good is the condition of the road?

Nothing like the NH45B. 4L all the way. JUst that you wont find any hotels/toilets on the way.

Thanks! I'll plan for it. I'm happy if I can do good speeds between Trichy and Madurai.

The best route is kumili-theni-dindukal-trichy-tanjore-velankanni
in this route after dindukal till tanjore most of the part is 4laned and can be done in quiet good speed.

The other route is kumili-theni-madurai-pudukottai-tanjore-velankanni
