Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

I will be travelling to Betalbatim from Bangalore? Which would be the ideal route to take if we start around 4 AM? Also let me know if there are speed cameras to watch out for

This section, past the railway crossing has some realignment based on the new widened road. This section has been dug up since ages and is the major cause of issues in this road since few years. Though the total distance of this section may be only 2 kms or so I guess.

You can check out how this section is in google street view here.

With rain, I assume the section where rock is cut on both side may have got water logging and caused issues with traction during climb.

However, on a regular day, I would say this is doable with any vehicle and does not warrant a diversion or alternative road consideration.

Whoa! I wasn't aware of the robbery. Had paid them during the previous couple of trips since all other vehicles ahead were paying up too.

Will refuse this time around and update here, in couple of weeks.

Thanks for this tip @ashkamath! I will be traveling to Cavelossim and will be trying this bypass.

Sir, you can opt for the Bangalore to Dharwad - Anmod - Mollem - Ponda route to Betalbatim. This route is quicker and better than Yellapur - Karwar route.

As you are planning to start around 4AM, you can cover up the NH distance of 450 kms from Bangalore to Hubli / Dharwad pretty comfortably & quickly as it's 4 lane NH road. Thereafter from Dharwad, it's narrow state roads via Anmod (Tinai ghat) - Mollem - Ponda - Betalbatim.

You don't need to enter Madgao from Ponda to go to Betalbatim. You will touch Madgao on the periphery.

Betalbatim is an adjacent village (South) to Colva and is distant 4 - 5 Kms from Colva and is also very close to Madgao and is situated at somewhat central Goa on the coast line.

I am planning to drive to Cavelossim from Bangalore on 5th October. It will be great if you could guide me on the route that you take during your trip.

Note that if you are driving through the wildlife sanctuary then the entry fee may be legitimate. Given the current condition of the main road, the approximate 9km detour through the sanctuary is recommended when driving towards Anmod from Ramnagar. But this is not always possible when driving from Anmod towards Ramnagar as this road is considered a one way. I was once denied the right turn towards Ramnagar despite having the ticket bought at the check post. The police told me the road was one way and I should continue to Khanapur to reach NH4 which didn't make sense. So, if driving through the sanctuary, you may need to pay. I would pay if I use this route when driving towards Goa. But I don't pay when driving towards Bangalore as using the sanctuary detour is not an option in this direction.

Hi,

Here's my intended route, with the layovers marked:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/QSb7wcu8PePEF3ca6

Apoorva Resorts, Davangere: for Breakfast
Ganesh Hotel, Tirumalakoppa, Hubli: for Kids/Tea/Snacks/Loo break

The Woods Restaurant and Resort, Dharwad: for lunch, if feasible at lunch hour, else we'll have to explore between here and Ramnagar.

Need a suggestion: At Mollem, which route should we take? :

the left deviation, Mollem-->Shigaon-->Sanverdam -->Sarzora-->Chinchinim-->Orlim-->Cavelossim

OR

Mollem-->Ponda-->Santemol-->Madgaon Bypass-->Varca-Madgaon Road-->Orlim-->Cavelossim

Isn't the fees for this Rs. 55 or 65? This route we do drive and pay the fees.

We were talking about the Rs. 20 toll at the state border check-post for which they give a light-yellow or light-pink receipt, IIRC. Is this legitimate toll?

During both our trips, this was a gravel/stone road for a small distance (beginning), and then a smooth single-lane tarred road. We had to slow down on the winding road only once or twice to either give way to the car coming from front, or to overtake a slow moving car.
We enjoyed driving through the winding roads, cool breeze and shaded with nature. A sharp contrast to the dull highway.

Was checking the Google Maps for our next trip from Saturday. The screenshot from today afternoon shows a slow-build-up of vehicles.

With the posts above talking about the bad stretch between Anmod and Tinai, has any body been on this diversion stretch recently?

Today the Google Maps show that the roads are blocked and recommends the diversion:
Ramanagar-->Asu-->Castlerock-->Anmod

If any body is traveling today or tomorrow, please let us know the road status, and if blocked, any ETA on it's re-opening. TIA.

Please take the 2nd route. The Mollem --Ponda - Madgaon Bypass - Varca -Orlim - Cavelossim. This route, though longer is better and quicker and the preferred route.

Was talking about 20 rupees. This is supposed to only be for the wildlife sanctuary. However it is collected from everyone crossing the border which to me is a scam and a very lucrative one at that.

On this route there is a BP COCO on the left side about 8 Kms before Dobbaspet, and an IOC COCO on the right side 3Kms after Dobbaspet. (This is 50-60 kms from Bangalore)

Next one is BP COCO in Ranebennur, one on each side of the highway. Around 300kms from Bangalore.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hello folks,

Travelling to Siolim on saturday and need to know the current condition of roads via Chorla ghat. Are the roads any better/worse than the Anumod/Tinai ghat road?

Is it recommended to stick with Anumod/Tinai route or Chorla route is best for Siolim?

I will be travelling to Ponda on Saturday and have planned to take the dharwad-> ramnagar->tinai ghat->anmod->mollem-> ponda route.

Google map shows road closure just after Tinai ghat towards Anmod. Has anyone travelled on this route recently?

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Did Bengaluru- Dharwad- Tinai ghat -Ponda- candolim this week. Totally doable. There was a small block due to rain which was repaired overnight. I was driving a Jimny and didn't had any worries what so ever. Infact, I was hoping to get bad roads to showoff Jimny capabilities to my better half. But was proven wrong.

Few pics for reference,

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Yup, I went from Goa to Bangalore yesterday, the Mollem-Tinai-Ramnagar route is open. There's a muddy patch which has dried up and is motorable. My low ground clearance Honda city didn't have an issue. This is the best route from and to Varca and up.

Maybe if it rains it might become a bit of an issue.
