I reside in Goa and so let me try to answer you.

Coming from Anmod side, you pass Mollem and Ponda by pass ( not entering the town) and proceed to Old Goa and then Panaji.

You don't enter Panaji city as you will just by pass it using the New Atal Setu towards Porvorim/ Mapusa.

Now, there's a shorter route to Assanora here. To access this route, you should opt to use the old bridge towards Mapusa and not the new Atal Setu. FYI, there are 3 bridges across river Mandovi that you need to cross. Two old bridges and the new Atal Setu.

You need to use the old bridge to use this short cut. This route is through Britona, Salvador Du Mundo, Pomburpa, Aldona, Corjuem. However this road is extremely narrow at some sections that I wouldn't recommend to visiting tourists. The road is very very narrow and it could frustrate you. So, kindly avoid this road unless you are ok with driving a section of the route through narrow road.

A better option though longer route is to proceed straight after Atal Setu, pass Porvorim then by pass Mapusa town, take Mumbai highway and then take a right turn to Mapusa - Bicholim road at Kharaswada into Tivim road and go to Assanora. This is a wider road and more comfortable for driving.

Please enter these above town name in Google maps so that you get the idea of the route I am suggesting you.

Rest be assured, you won't enter any city in Goa while you drive to Assanora. You have bypass at Ponda, Panaji and Mapusa. It's 4 lane highway through out and pleasant drive too.

Hope that helps

Riding Solo on a HD 440X. Time to explore newer roads.

Avoid NHs. They are straight, fast and boring.

Create your own route that's between the Bangalore Pune NH and the coastal NH.

It will be roughly Bangalore to Tumkur - Arasikere - Bhadravati - Shimoga - Sagar - Jog falls road take turn to Siddapura - Sirsi, Yellapur - Ankola - Karwar - Goa

I don't know how bad the roads are if you take Chorla Ghat on Karnataka side of border. However the roads on Goa side should be good. A couple of years back the road was bad near the top of Chorla Ghat. If you want to use Anmod Ghat route, give your first destination as "The Rasoda" Old Goa, and once you reach there, reset your destination as Club Mahindra Assnora. This will ensure you remain on the Ponda - Panjim highway and also use Atal Setu bridge to enter Bardez towards your resort. As mentioned earlier if Chorla Ghat is ok, that would be fastest route. Hopefully someone else could update about that route

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

BHPians,

I would like to know the condition of the road from Hubli bypass to South Goa. Quick check on Google Maps suggests the following route via Kalaghatgi, Yellapura, Ankola and Karwar.

Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries-routemap.png

We will be traveling from Bangalore and planning to stay over at Hubli to break the journey as we are families traveling with kids.

Trip will be done on 2 low GC sedans.

Hi BHPians,
On the Anmod route, is Tinai ghat still an option?

Sir, the road is decent and manageable for low GC cars. There's not much concern here. For South Goa, this is the preferred route

A close friend used this route to Goa from Bangalore on my recommendation, in his slightly lowered BMW F30 328i (which is already a low GC car), and he raved about the road conditions. Other than a few pot holes and rough patches around the ghat section after Yellapur, he reported a good experience.

This was of course just before the landslide.

Usually how long does it take to reach Goa from Bangalore (gorguntepalya) google says 10-11 hours. I will be travelling to Goa on Oct 3 and return on Oct 6 in my kuv100, planning to take the above suggested route to Benaulim.

Hope this route should be fine? Or is there any other suggestion. I will be travelling with my wife and 2 kids and will be leaving Bangalore by 5-6 Am

In terms of sun film, I have applied 70%visiblity sunfilm on side windows and rear, although I was never stopped by cops in Bangalore, will it be a problem in Goa? Are they imposing fines or wil they be removing it (seen few videos), do you suggest removing the sun film before going to Goa? Is there any other alternative to avoid hot sun

Thanks all

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to answer my question in the best way possible! You even understood the psychology of the travelers :-). I will take this route: Ponda bypass - Old Goa - Panaji and then onwards to Assonora, using the highway. Sounds a lot cleaner and less complicated.

Thanks a lot for your response. I wont be taking the Chorla route. By looking at the photos on the posts above, now I am wondering should I even take Anmod route as mine is a low GC car.

This is what I have finalized now. Stay at Hubli for a night - Then take the south Goa Karwar route, pass by Varca etc and hit Panaji and then onto Assonora. Its going to be a long drive but, its a pleasure to drive thoughout Goa in this route, given the new roads that have been constructed.

Now that you have decided to take the South Goa Karwar route, it will be Hubli - Kallghatgi - Yallapur - Ankola - Karwar - Canacona - Madgao (drive through the city as highway by pass is not yet ready) - Panaji (by pass) - Mapusa bypass towards Mumbai - Take right at Karaswada junction - Tivim - Assanora

For Karaswada junction after Mapusa bypass you need to take the service road and leave the highway. Your Google maps should help you with it.

With this new route, you won't touch Varca, Ponda or Old Goa. Your route will be Canacona (by passed due to the new 4 lane highway) - Cuncolim - Madgao ( bypass work underway, so you have to go through the city) - Panaji (bypass - take new Atal Sethu).

This route is very good. Only stretch that you might take it easy is between Canacona and Madgao, about 37 Kms , where there's a Ghat to pass (Karmal ghat) and some 2 lane narrow stretch of roads. You could get stuck behind a bus or truck here. Be patient here as it's a short distance and you get some straight stretches for overtaking here. Wait patiently for the open straight stretch before overtaking. This is only for a short distance between Canacona & Madgao. Do not get frustrated here as your speed will slow down. It's a small stretch and will pass soon.

But once you are out of Madgao and hit the Highway, it's 4 lane beautiful concrete tarmac through out upto Karaswada junction after Mapusa bypass. It's an amazing road. You will enjoy it a lot.

After Mollem at Tiska take right on to Hathkamba - Goa road, it will take you to Bicholim Assonora, you will not have to enter Ponda, Panjim.
Gmaps should be able to map it out once you take right.

Hey Diogo, thanks for pointing out that route. I think I haven't traversed that route as I reside in Vasco and my commutes are limited to Madgao and Panaji and sometimes further ahead to Pedne and back. I shall drive this route on a weekend and see how this road is.

I have used the Old Goa - Banastarim bridge - Marcel - Amona Bridge - Navelim junction - Sanquelim - Bicholim bypass - Assanora route multiple times..

Now, I need to check the Navelim junction to Tisk junction to complete this route for my future reference.. Thanks again for pointing out this short cut.

Re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

I drove from Bangalore to Lanja (Konkan) via Goa on the 04th of Sept.

Hubbali - Dharwad - Tinai Ghat - Anmod - Mollem - Ponda - Towards Konkan Region.

The road is good.

Your Welcome. This is the road I take regularly to Mapusa coming from this side. Initial kilometer or so after Tiska junction is a small crowded road but after that it's good empty road till Navelim. last I took this road was January, hope it has not changed after that
