Delhi to BITS Pilani Route Information Needed

I have to travel from Delhi to Pilani (BITS) on 4th Nov’07. I went through BITS website and got the following information on the route:
  • Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuheda-Riwari-Narnaul-Singhana-Chirawa-Pilani. This is a new road, smooth and almost two lanes and a shade more!!!! Highly recommended if anyone is planning to drive down. This is the road that Kohinoor Travels takes. Be sure to stop for some outstanding tea on the way.
  • Delhi-Rohtak-Bhiwani-Loharu-Pilani. Not recommended. In January 2003, visitors to Pilani wrote that the road is as bad as ever, but the Loharu-Pilani section has improved tremendously.
As per BITS, the best route is Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuheda-Riwari-Narnaul-Singhana-Chirawa-Pilani (around 220 kms). I will be driving from Patparganj, Delhi to BITS Pilani in my car. The issue is that I have been outside Delhi since some time and am not familiar with the recent status of the roadwork going on in Gurgaon. Can someone please guide me on the suggested route (or a better one) with key landmarks/directions that I will have to remember. A rough idea on the interval (in kms) between major landmarks/cities will be of great help. Also is someone has done this route recently, then an idea on the road condition, average travel time, good restaurants will be highly appreciated .

I think the option of driving through Riwari and Narnaul should be better.
Anyways wait for expert advice of Kumar sir.

Unfortunately not driven on Rohtak road for many years (last did in 1994!) and never been to Pilani! But I would prefer NH8 anyday because of the double road till Riwari.

dude, I went to pilani last year this time. The route is good. No major issues with it. Only thing is there are no great dhaba's, as we find enroute to Punjab. Try to start early and take good music along with you as FM reception is only till rewari. And do not forget snacks and drinks.

well there is accomodation available inside. My cousin is there, so he was able to accomodate me in one of the guest houses. They have one very good guest house.

There is nothing outside the campus as such. Pilani is known just because of the BITS. Since you are going in November, carry light woolens with you as it gets cold in the night.

Whenever you stop for the directions enroute, confirm with 3-4 person. and dont ask them for any shortcuts or anything. They will guide you to nowhere.

Hello TSEA & abbey4U,

I did Delhi to pilani Last october in my Indica.

Route I took was Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuhera-rewari-kanina-mahendergarh-satnali-loharu-BITS.

The road is very good but 2-lanes without divider after getting down from NH8. be carefull about speed breakers when approaching villages.

@abbey4u it is very safe to drive in night, without any danger, the locals are helpfull. The problem during night drive are jeeps & trucks which dont dip their powerfull lights on a 2 lane road.

You will find lots of dhabas enroute till mahendergarh.

PLACE TO STAY: stay in BITS hostel, its very economical, RS400 per person a/c rooms. Very decent meal is served in dining area. You dont need to find any hotel or eating joint. To be sure to get the room, try to reach upto 3:00PM.

The faculty & staff are really helpfull, Meet Prof. Venkat the Dean of BITS, Really a helpfull Guruji.

landmarks to remember: till dharuhera its straight on NH8, after crossing dharuhera you will find a bridge over river sabi (appx 10kms from dharuhera), be SURE TO TAKE RIGHT LANE ON BIRDGE & turn right towards Rewari.

In rewari take CIRCULAR ROAD and sure ask a local to get road towards, Mahendargarh.(inside reawari is bit confusing, be sure to ask direction mahendergargh).

Then its almost st. till mahendargarh, only time you will take left turn is at KANINA(main road itself turns left). remember this point KANINA for return journey as most people make mistake while returning back to delhi here.

reach Mahendargarh, take left turn, you will find lots of dhabas, ask for right turn to Loharu/Satnali.

Reach satnali, take left towards, LOHARU, here on you will be more or less st. towards PILANI, as you will find lots of sign board after loahru.

Need further info. feel free to ask

NOTE: dont pick Narnaul as road is usually bad after mansoon, but i dont know current condition, via mahendergarh-satnali is normally good.

And to visit "connaught place" in BITS Pilani. That place makes me nostalgic every time I visit it for campus placements.

I dont think that they book rooms in advance, in the moring it may be bit difficult, since viva sensions begin at around 11:00am so you can be sure to get rooms from 12 onwards.

If some body left very late evening then there might be a chance.

But dont worry reach in morning. Book a room, at most if you are not lucky enough, you will get one for sure by 11 or 12 in noon.

Till then you can have access to dining hall & washroom atleast(but that is worst & rare case).

Dont worry, enjoy your trip, it is going to remain nostalgic for years to come. Pilani campus is a beautiful place.

My advice: dont rush back after finishing your viva, take your time roam around campus, visit sarswati temple, science museum etc.they are worth visiting.

Go & visit alumni office, get your name registered, you can buy souviniers. Best of luck for your final exam. And be proud to be a BITSian.
