Hi,

I am visiting Ooty from Pune over the next weekend, I plan to stopover in Goa on the way back.
I am wondering what is the best route to take from Ooty to Goa?
Both Mappls and GMap show Ooty - Gudalur - Sulthan Bathery - Madikeri - Mangalore - Karwar - Goa as fastest route with another suggestion from
Ooty - Gudaluru - Mysore bypass - Maddur - Tumakuru - Hubli - Ramnagar - Mollem - Goa

I am traveling with family so planning to take a halt after 9-10 hours Maybe Mangalore or Davanagere depending on which route I take, but still not able to finalize the route.

Any suggestions?

Having just done a couple of Goa - Kollur/Mangalore trips last month, I would recommend the Karwar route rather than the ghats of Mollem (Chorla/Anmod).

The Karwar route roads are better and can be driver even late at night compared to crossing over the other roads which have perennial roadwork. Mangalore - Goa is easily possible in 6 hours, especially if you time it so that you avoid one side traffic by travelling early in the morning or reaching late at night. Suggest stopping at Mangalore, Udupi or if you want to make the first day driving long and second day relaxing, try out Gokarna. You can even spend a day there before driving onwards.

If you decide to take the mangalore route, do not follow goole maps route, as it takes you through some narrow interior roads. Take the Ooty-Mysore-Madikeri-Mangalore. Its all highway road (NH/SH) and having better wayside facilities.
