I drove on this route five days back. From Hyderabad to Khajuraho and back. The road from Nagpur to Jabalpur is very good. The roads on MP side are better than MH. You’ll see sparse traffic. Eateries are almost non-existent. And for those who need to travel beyond Jabalpur, it’s important to time your travel in case you are dependent on eateries. It’s better to carry packed food in case one is going to Prayagraj. I am also going there in early February and I plan to carry food with me as I did a few days ago.

Keenly watching this thread regarding parking at Kumbh.

Re: Maha Kumbh 2025 - Parking and Gate/Ghat queries

Found the excellent map of Mahakumbh nagar in the below insta link, which might be helpful to everyone.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEOuo...RlODBiNWFlZA==

Sectors 3 and 4 constitute Sangam and Sectors 23, 24 and 25 contitute Arail Ghat. As other esteemed members mentioned, people travelling/coming from Rewa side will be stopped before Naini and will have to walk or take an e-rikshaw to Arail ghat for a dip. If authorities are allowing a boat ride from Arail, we can pick a boat ride at Arail and go to Sangam in Sectors 3 and 4 and take a dip.

Park+ app can be downloaded from the below link.

Thanks for the route info. Much help! How is the road from Jabalpur till Varanasi?

We 3 couples with 2 kids (10years and 6 years) are planning to drive in an Innova all the way from Bangalore on Feb-8th till 17th. We will reach Kashi on 9th evening for Ganga Arati and darshan will be on 10th. Have booked a homestay in Airbnb for 11th and 12th night in Prayag, very near to ghat on Jhunsi Side. 12th being an important snan date, will our vehicle be allowed inside Kumbh area on 11th early morning travelling from Varanasi? If not would like to know how far is the parking lot? 13th will leave to Ayodhya and then head back to Bangalore. Would like to know about the road conditions

Eagerly following this thread for updates. Request members to share their experiences which will be of much help!

I had travelled a year back the roads are four laned throughout.
Before Katni four laning work was going on for about 30 kms and Rewa had a dual carriage way bypass.
Only issue is cattle will be on the highway after dark little difficult to spot them .
Need to be alert while driving in the night.

Re: Maha Kumbh 2025 - Parking and Gate/Ghat queries

Let me answer few questions on this thread, as I'm from Prayagraj and stayed (and roamed around) for a month right before the start of the mela, so have a fair idea of the situation.

Few relatives recently took this route a few months back, and I heard no complaints from them. I can't give a sure-shot answer to this one though.

I seriously doubt cars will allowed on that day (Read: No). You'll have to park somewhere in Andava and will have to get the govt. bus or probably a local e-rickshaw. Andava is not very far from Jhusi. Congrats on managing that booking though!

Prayagraj to Ayodhya is just 'fine'. I travelled this route in mid November. The road for the most part is well-built but undivided yet wide enough in most parts (it could have been widened by now, based on the pace of work that has bee ongoing in general) but you'll have to pass Pratapgarh and Sultanpur where you will find some traffic during day time. Try to leave early.
Also, try to take the Varanasi-Kanpur bypass when you leave Prayagraj and then alight on the Pratapgarh road to avoid local congestion and possibly save some time. Check the traffic on Google maps on the day and plan accordingly.

Roads are good
Jabalpur - Katni (excellent 4 lane, you can enter via Katni city as the katni bypass is under construction)
Katni - Maihar - Rewa (excellent condition, Rewa bypass is 15-20 KMs 2 lane bidirectional road)
Rewa - Mirzapur Good condition. From here you can take Mirzapur to Deendayal Upadhyaya (Mughasarai) newly built 110 KM road. Empty stretch and excellent. Reason I am suggesting because Mirzapur Varanasi route is narrower at some places and may have lot of traffic.

Special notes
Cattle are expected on roads in MP.
Though no speed cameras, but occasionally local police appears with speed gun van.
Wrong side driving is common so drive carefully.
Careful at Baram baba ghati as lot of speed breakers appear on descend. The driver behind you may not be prepared for sudden braking.
Good family restaurants available inside Katni city, Maihar city, Maihar Rewa highway (few KMs before Rewa)
Mirzapur Mughasarai road doesn’t have lot of good options.

For parking information, please see the description of the video above your post. It contains interactive map for all entry points along with the parking, ghat locations.

Has anybody driven there from Delhi in the last few days? Any feedback on routes, road conditions, stay options would be great.

Re: Maha Kumbh 2025 - Parking and Gate/Ghat queries

The momentum of Kumbh mela is growing by the day, and while i was content and feeling proud about the Kumbh mela by watching WhatsApp forwards and status, the Kumbh fever has crept in and now, we are planning to be there, Preferably on the NON-SPECIAL days between 5th Feb and 11th Feb and between 14th Feb till 25th Feb (based on the maha Kumbh app - info shared in this thread by BHP'ian Vinod Nair)
The plan is to catch a flight from Bangalore, book a tent at tent city and be back in 2 days. I know, its easier said than done. While browsing through the internet, came across this Youtube video, which gives amazing clarity on how to reach the city?, Where to stay?, how to reach the ghats? Very useful info- even if you are not necessarily driving to Prayagraj, but also going thru Air, train, taxi or bus.

My friend and I are flying from Dabolim international airport, Goa to Nagpur tomorrow (Monday, 27th January) early morning and from Nagpur, we have engaged a taxi to Prayagraj and back. We shall be taking the Nagpur - Jabalpur - Rewa route.

Our plan is to reach Prayagraj by 27th January night hours, park our car at Maha prayagam car park at Areil ghat area, Walk to our accomodation at Prayag Shree Kashi Mutt at Daraganj (Close to Sangam area) using the pontoon bridge to Jhusi side and then another pontoon bridge from Jhusi to Sangam side to reach our destination, then rest / go around Mela on 28th January and make the holy dip on Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan day, 29th January and return to Nagpur on 30th January by the same taxi and fly back to Goa from Nagpur.

I have been following the youtube channel "Lok Parlok" where the Youtuber, a resident of Prayag is providing updates every couple of hours on the latest developments. I find this YouTube channel to be the most comprehensive and hence made a mention here so that it can be helpful to other Tbhpians.

Our planned bathing day is 29th January, Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan day and it's said about 10 crores to 12 crores devotees may arrive and take the holy dip on that day. I am looking forward to be a part of the devotional deluge on that day.

As I have come to know, all vehicular traffic movement inside Prayagraj and in /out of Prayagraj will be stopped for 4 days from 27th January (i.e tomorrow) to 30th January. Even the E-rickshaw and the Sangam Boats will not play on 29th January.

What it implies is that all outstation vehicles will be stopped some 5-10 kms outside the Prayagraj city and shuttle buses will ply from the parking areas to Mela outskirts to move the outstation visitors. From the Mela outskirts, one has to walk in the mela area to their Ghat or accomodation through pre-designated routes.

The routes to the ghats will be one way movement only. So going to ghat and returning from ghat will be different routes. So, even if the distance between say Point A to Point B is 1 Km, the predesignated route might take a circuitous 3-4 Kms or more. So we are told not to go by Google maps or a simple distance calculation as reality is far different on the ground.

A minimum of 15 Kms to 30 Kms or more of walking is expected on 29th January Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan day and hence Kids & elders (who cannot walk long distances) are discouraged from visiting the mela during these 4 days. I am a senior citizen and I am looking forward to have a great once in a lifetime Kumbh experience

I shall update more, as soon as I return from Prayagraj after the Shahi Snan.

Re: Maha Kumbh 2025 - Parking and Gate/Ghat queries

In Oct 2024 I have covered almost 1000 KM in Maharastra with my KA-03 (Bangalore) vehicle. I did not face any such challenge.

Shree Kashi mutt is the place where we stayed when me and my friend visited the last Ardh Kumbh in 2019. It's so close and walkable to Sangham Ghat, the food served was so delicious and price was almost free
We contacted the mutt this time too for accommodation but unfortunately, they cannot give the accommodation to people other than mutt community.

Looking forward for your update about your experience. My best wishes and pray that everything goes for you as per your plans.

Thank you. Yes, got the warning of cattles on the road from others too. Will keep in mind as we may be on those roads past sunset.

Thank you for the detailed info. I get that the roads overall are in good condition and shouldn't be a problem. And yes, we will try to squeeze our car inside Jhunsi but if not allowed, we are ready to walk with minimum luggage.

During my recent trip on this route (I went up to Katni) a MH police team stopped my car (TS registration) near Pench National Park and asked for documents (Drivers license, Registration paper, and Pollution Under Certificate). After I showed my DL the guy waved me off. Nowadays anyway Telangana to MH to MP vehicles need not enter Nagpur city at all and in the other two trips prior to that I hadn’t seen any MH police. On the other hand, I haven’t seen any MP police any time on the highway. Harassment of MH police to car travelers usually occurs on the Shirdi route.

The route is safe. Yet I would advise against travel in the night because beyond MH the road is not lit at all and usually there’s sparse traffic. Eateries are very few except those that cater to truck drivers.
