Hey everyone. I’m planning a road trip from Kolkata with my father. I wanted to ask what destinations are worth the drive, the road conditions, the time to reach the respective destinations and the route that’s best to take while embarking on such an adventure, the places to avoid, the places that we can stop for a rest, food or for the night and any potential issues/unforseen circumstances we may face . Any and all suggestions would be very helpful.

West Bengal is a treasure for road trips all around. But I am sure people will be able to help better if you share the kind of distance you are ready to go (less than 500km, 500-1000 kms, more than 1000 kms etc), kinds of places you like (religious, hills, sea beach etc), and number of days willing.

We don’t have a preference on the type of place. One can say that we are looking forward to just hitting the road and heading somewhere. We were thinking about a week long trip which would include driving to the destination and back so I assume anything around the 1500-1800 km range one way assuming we do about 500-600 km a day.

How about driving to Puri and back should be 1000 kms plus?

If you are a bit more adventurous maybe Vizag or even Chennai and back?

I did Chennai & back in 2015/16, very good roads but lots of hazards (cattle, wrong direction traffic..etc). En route to Chennai we drove with 1 night halt in Srikakulam.
The return leg was with 2 stops in Rajahmundry & Bhubaneshwar.

This sounds a lot like the দিকনিশ্চিন্তিপুর of নীল লোহিত

My suggestions:

• Head north to Murshidabad with leisurely stops at Chandan nagar, Bandel, Chinsurah, Krishnanagar. Return via Bishnupur.
• Head west to Maithon, Sasaram. Go up to Varanasi.
• Head south to Bhubaneswar. Spend the entire week gawking at the temples in Bhubaneswar and at Konark.

I hope you're planning to do this after the election carnival, and after the heatwave subsides a bit?

1500 Km each day is a lot of distance and with 500-600 each day out of a 9 day weekend to weekend vacation, 6 days would be spent on driving. If driving is the only objective then this is fine.

My suggestions are:-

1. Nainital / Haridwar
2. Jaipur
3. Rajgir, Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Agra either touching on the way or individual tours
4. North Bengal, North East as per choice
5. Rambha, Vizag, Pondicherry route

Roads are good everywhere, take latest updates from FB groups and this forum prior to travel. But options 2 and 3 have mostly expressways in majority of the stretch and are good round the year. Once you zero in on the option the aspects of pitstop stays and food junctions can be discussed, in summary they are pretty good in above options
