Try the Kanjhangad - Panathur - Bhagamandala - Madikeri route. A few bad patches, but otherwise road is motorable, I hear.

Our aim was to keep the car above 200 as much as possible. Never went below 140 except in towns. Man! Those were the roads a year earlier.
Now, with the same car, it'll take atleast 2hours or more if we try something similar. BTW, roads are slowly being patched up in almost every part of Kerala. North Kerala (above cannanore) is a bit behind though. But for sure, there's some light at the end of the tunnel.
That is right, Kerala roads are deserted early in the morning. Leaving TVM at 310 am, I have done Trivandrum-Ernakulam Vytilla in 2.5 hours (220 kms) 535 am, Trissur in 3.15, 625 am, and have continued to Palakkad in 4 hours (350 kms), 710 am.
Zak you f****** the road or what? That as an awesome timing.I did Trivandrum to Guruvayoor in 3 n half hours not trissur.

That road was also in a very bad condition the last time I drove thru. It was about 4 months ago. Anybody know of the latest conditions?

I know a guy living in Panathur and he said the roads were OK. THis was sometime in November.

@SpeedZak - When did you use this road? The ghats were newly laid in Feb-March

I came thru that road on august. It was not very good. My sister's in laws are near Kanhangad and from MADIKERI, we decided to try that route. We regretted then. Let me give it a try this time anyway.

just did a cok-bangy-cok trip.

went to bangy via calicut-kalpetta-gundalpet-mysore-bangy

too hard and tiring. roaads are good almost through out the trip. got awesome fog inbetween kalpetta and gundalpet. visiblty was hight reduced. (i would say around 15m or so)

came back via dharmapuri-mettur-ammapett-gobi-avinashi-coimbatore-plkd-tcr-ekm.

plkd-tcr now has mountains instead of wells on the road.
tcr-ekm is back to normal

@govi- which bit? the part near kudranmala? or is it uniformly screwed up? I have to go to coimby this week

do you think i'll be better off on the trichur-ottapalam-shornur-palakkad-cbe route?
is that route still good?
seeing the speed at which the palakkad-trichur section deteriorated, I'm worried about the T-O-S-P section.
anyone else has updates on this route?

Folks - From Mysore, is the route via Nilambur fairly straightforward (NH212) all the way (till TCR) or are there certain places/towns where one has to be watchful for turns or ask around?

Thanks

Ravi

Ravi

NH 212 does not go to Nilambur. I know you think otherwise, but NH 212 is Mysore - Calicut, not Mysore - Nilambur.

For a list of National Highways that run through Kerala, please check the Kerala Government PWD Site:

Kerala PWD - National Highways

Gudalur - Nilambur is NOT a National Highway. That road ends in Nilambur. From Nilambur you find your way to Trichur using different routes, as the road is NOT a Mysore to Trichur route.

Nilambur - Trichur can be done thru Perinthalmanna and Shornur or via Pattambi - Kunnamkulam or via Manjeri to NH 17.

Did the Cbe- Tcr - Chalakudi run last week. Patchwork is complete all the way upto Trichur except for half a dozen or so potholes just before you hit Walayar from the CBE side.

An updates on Palakkad to Cochin? I hear most areas are patched up. Any area to keep a keen eye on?

According to the latest news I got a few hours ago, the road between Palakkad and Trichur is patched up a lot and is quiet motorable now. That means You'll be able to touch 50-80kmph I guess. Rest of the route is ok.

Road widening work is going on south of Madurai on NH7, expect deviations and some patchy surfaces.
