Re: All Roads to Kerala

Kochi - Coimbatore - Salem - Ulundurpet - Perungalathur - Chennai byepass - Maduravoyal interchange - Anna Nagar. The Ulundurpet route is shorter and has relatively lesser traffic from Salem till Ulundurpet.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

It may be a matter of personal preference, however I feel Chennai -Tindivanam byepass traffic is more annoying than Chennai - Walajpet.

I have felt the same too. I have to take the Tindivanam route invariably when I visit Madurai and the traffic during Sunday evenings can be highly irritating.

OTOH, the Vellore - Krishnagiri route is a little less painful during weekends. I prefer this route during my Palakkad commutes. Even though the distance is a little longer and it takes maybe 30 minutes more. Plus the 6-laned roads from Krishnagiri till Chennasamudram Toll gives a relaxed drive compared to the 4-laned roads on the other stretch.

Speed Camera Alert

37 speed cameras in 57 kms! Between Walayar to Vadakkancherry, there are many cameras, will start working from today, as per press reports.

Your average speed is calculated, camera to camera & tickets will be sent to registered address. There's also provision to warn control room ahead of you to intercept you, if you speed on this stretch.

It's 90. Average speed detection is the problem. It's anyways crowded from Cochin to Thrissur but used to make up for it after Alathur. But now .

90 kmph on a 4-lane road, right. But within municipality/corporation limits it is 50 kmph. So it is not clear whether you have to drop down to 50 once you enter Palakkad limits. Where does the municipality limits start, anyway?

Average will never be 90 right. So isn't that good?

If it stays 90 it's good but you have these 50 kmph limits on that stretch too. Have seen few speed limit boards posted there. There should be clear indication on that.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Update: NH183 Kollam-Anjalumoodu-Kundara route

There is a diversion at Kadavoor junction, due to road works at intersection of NH183 and NH66 (new Kollam bypass).

As far as I know you cant cross max speed of 90. That 50kmph boards near junction and the down stretch of flyovers are not taken into consideration

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Any updates from folks who has driven after the cams got operational?

They didn't have a mechanism to send tickets to out of state registered vehicles earlier, has this changed now(manually intercepting on the way may be unlikely after investing on so many cams)

Wow! That is a lot of cameras! But given that the road between Walayar till Palakkad bypass is pretty neat, I'm sure this is going to give a lot of additional income for the Govt!

All I can say is that your talking skills must've been much better than mine, or the following possibilities;
    1. Officer-In-Charge of Walayar RTO Check Post is a better informed person
    2. Officer-In-Charge of Walayar RTO Check Post who is not familiar with the changes in the Rule
    3. Officer-In-Charge of Iritty RTO Check Post was trying to make up his quota of collection target Iin the lean period following floods in Kerala) and hence, extracting maximum from me.
    4. Officer-In-Charge of Iritty RTO Check Post is a person not updated with Rules and hence ignorant
For the Money I paid I got an official receipt - see below.
