Took the left turn from Akkikavu till Keecheri, which bypassed Kunnamkulam. Saves ~6-7kms and a truck load of time. Highly recommended. Road is decent, though not of highway quality, no potholes.

Also, the road from kuttipuram to kunnamkulam is a big relief and time saver.
Took left turn from Akkikavu till Keecheri? Is this direction for Sulthan Bathery to Ernakulam (reverse of what you said)? Just wanted to check this since a bit confused !

Is this the route that passes thru Edapal - Changarakulam?

Left at Akkikavu would be in the Batheri to EKM direction. It cuts across the Ottupara-Kunnamkulam road at Pannithadam.

This diversion to Akkikavu is the "official" route for people going from Wadakancheri etc to Kozhikode airport since a long time, since it saves the hassle of going via kunnamkulam to connect to the Thrissur-Kunnamkulam-Kuttipuram road.

This diversion is a very popular route during Sabarimala season. Have seen police guiding people to take this route near Akkikavu then.

@ranjitp1 -> just believing that the following was the route my friend took (very long time back) that avoided the railway gates as well as Kunnamkulam town:- Alathur-Ottupara Jn-Pannithadam-Kecheri-Guruvayur. Maybe 5 kms or so longer than Kunnamkulam route but helped drop someone who was going near Amala as well on that day. Our original planned route was Palakkad-Trichur-Guruvayur and had to divert at Alathur because of some road-blocks somewhere near Mannuthi.

Tirurangadi - Aluva

We did a quick trip from Tirurangadi, Malappuram District to Aluva, Ernakulam District, the previous day! The roads were very good in condition.

My articulation skills are less than average. For that matter, I'm sharing the track details :

Quick stats!

Sorry Ranjit, I didn't notice. The whole trip was strictly time bounded, and that was also why I took that route.

Do you mean to say Bangalore - Mysore - Bandipur - Goodaloor - Ooty - Coimbatore - Thrissur?

Well, I guess Bangalore - Mysore - Gundelpet - Sulthan Bathery - Calicut - Thrissur - Ekm would be better. If so the total kms will come to around ~550kms.
Also, you have many good choices from Sulthan Bathery to Ekm.

The route diverts from the main route only from akkikavu, ie, after Valanchery.

Don't know your exact starting point.
Central Silk Board to Ernakulam (Kaloor) :

530-540 kms approx via Salem-CBE

Via Mysore-Gudallur:About 480 kms
Via Calicut: approx. 540 kms

I know!

Well. While going towards Ernakulam side, you can bypass Valachery Town by taking a right turn near Kanjipura (before reaching the Vattapara curve) and enter back into the NH near Moodal. We always take this route and ends up saving time.

EDIT : This road is known by the name Kuttipuramkunnu-KIillinikode road.

The highway guides traffic through this route whenever there is an accident at the notorious Vattapara curve.

...and I was asking whether you bypassed the Valachery town, this way.

Via Coimbatore- Bangalore to Palakkad is approx 410 kms and palakkad to Ernakulam is 163 kms. The total distance is approx 575 kms.I have travelled once in this stretch.

Bangalore-Mysore- Nanjangudu-Gudalur-Nadugani-Nilambur-Melattoor-Perinthalmanna-Pattambi-Shoranur-Wadakancherry-Trichur-Bypass-Enrnakulam

The distance for the above route seems to be 520 kms as per google map.

I don't know from where to where is this distance. Palakkad to Kaloor is 131 Kms on NH47

Also, if anyone is concerned about kms, they can save 18-20 kms via Hosur-Rayakottai-Palakkodu and another 10 kms by Omallur-Shankagiri route. Again, Mettur route is shorter but the road is not in great condition. Last Friday I tried this route but returned to NH7 itself after few kms.

All above distances are approximate.

EDIT:
As per the log sent by HVK sometime back, HSR Layout - Edappally byepass is 539kms and Palakkad byepass to Edappally byepass - 129 kms only through the regular NH7-NH47 route.

The following is the route from Sil board to Ernakulam via Nilambur (including by-passes
suggested by Ranjit). Expect distances in the range of 500Km.

Iam planning a Thrissur-Kollam drive this weekend. Anyone have driven in this stretch recently? How is road condition particularly in Cherthala-Kollam stretch? Thanks in advance
