Pune to Indore (MP) and Bundi (Rajasthan)

I am looking for updates and suggestions on road conditions for the following routes for a ride (Ninja 1000) planned in November. The criteria I am looking for are smooth & well paved roads that allow for brisk riding.

Pune to Indore via Nasik
Indore to Bundi (Kota, Rajasthan). G-maps attached, showing 3 options.

Pune-Indore is a known route. But from Indore to Bundi, I dont know how is the route via Jhalawar. A roundabout route which is complete 4-lane would be: Indore-Lebad-Ratlam-Nimbahera-Chittor-Bundi.

EDIT :

Please have a look at this thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route...ml#post4893346 (Delhi to Indore : via Jaipur or Agra?)

Similar details and the confusion between the two options. While many use the Dewas-Shivpuri-Gwalior, not much about Dewas-Jhalawar. I guess route beyond that is a 4-lane up to Kota.

I can answer this query with my experience of using both the routes.

DO NOT use the route Indore - Ujjain - Agar- Susner- Soyat Kalan - Jhalrapatan - Kota - Bundi
The road is filled with Potholes. Its a single lane road infested with locals and big trucks moving at snails pace. Trucks drive in groups and you can't overtake them all together. Locals drive crazy on the curves and they would overtake at the cost of crashing an oncoming four-wheeler forget about giving way to a two wheeler.

I took the route and was delayed by 5 plus hours. Horrible experience. Very few good places to eat and fuel can be dirty.

From Jhalrapatan to Kota and Bundi route is excellent, but upto Jhalrapatan its horrible.

Considering you stop at Indore you should take Indore - Ghatabillod - Badnawar - Ratlam - Jaora - Mandsaur - Neemuch route. From Neemuch you can decide whether you want to take the Kota Bundi route which is excellent or direct Bundi route.
Rajasthan internal roads are also in excellent condition so you can try the shortest route to Bundi from Neemuch.
I have used Neemuch - Chittorgarh- Mandalgarh route and it was in good condition with sparse traffic.
Hope this helps.

Are you referring to the Neemuch-Gandhi Sagar-Rawat Bhatta - Kota road? It's a 2-lane, but I dont know the current state, but makes for a great drive though!

I have not used the above mentioned route, but came to know that its an Ok road with some potholes or bad patches near Rawat Bhata.

I had been to a village called Jahazpur ahead of Bundi, while coming back I took Jahazpur- Mandalgarh - Chittorgarh bypass - Neemuch route which was in good condition and had very less traffic.

So instead of doing Neemuch - Ratangarh - Bicholiya- Bundi as shown by google I was suggesting -
Neemuch - Chitorgarh - Mandalgarh - Bijoliya -Bundi.
Because Neemuch to Chittorgarh route is excellent and from Chittorgarh to Mandalgarh is also quite good. Bijoliya to Bundi I am not aware. But this route will be a longer one of which half of the route I have used and is a good one.

But the locals have told me that even Rajasthan internal roads are good. Please note all my experience is 2 years old. Thanks

Re: Pune to Indore (MP) and Bundi (Rajasthan)

Took the route of Ratlam to Pune on Aug 3rd 2024. This was part of an overall journey from Delhi to Goa. Day 1 was Delhi to Ratlam (using DME interrupted by a 3 hr detour around Kota). Day 2 Ratlam to Pune and Day 3 Pune to Goa.

Ratlam to Pune Route Description:
1. We took a 2 lane highway out of Ratlam which merged with Mumbai-Agra highway after abt 3 hrs. The highway connects villages and towns about 30 to 45 mins apart. You pass through abt 7 villages before intersecting with M-A Highway.

The section is good enough, with not much traffic in the morning. The road has potholes everywhere and rumble strips at the village intersections. This weekend was Red Alert for Rain across western MP and central MH, which is primarily the route.

NH60 takes you pretty much all the way to Pune, except we were trapped a bit by Google Maps. Let me explain,

Once you pass the Dhule and the MP Border into Maharashtra, you are already hitting some ghats. Once you clear the last of these ghats, you are shown a left turn. This takes you through a sort of bypass, which avoids Nashik. If you stick to the highway, you get taken past Nashik and down south to Pune. However, this "bypass" let's you take a shorter route, BUT DO NOT TAKE THIS ROUTE. It's abt 2hrs journey through very bad roads among village fields and kaccha rastas. DO STICK TO THE HIGHWAY.

After this stretch, we connected to the NH60 which took us all the way to Pune. The epic cloud-topped ghats, and waterfalls next to the highway was a feast for the soul.

Getting into Pune, we hit traffic which was atrocious. Stayed at Sayaji which was meh. Overall, this leg of the journey took us 13.5 hrs with stops.

Not very clear on the routing. My take is: From Ratlam drive to Lebad and take the bypass to Manpur. There you get on to the Nashik highway. Drive till Malegaon and from there drive to Pune either via Sangamer or via Nagar depending on how the road conditions are.
