Seeking places to explore - Itinerary for Mumbai

Hello everyone!

I am planning to visit Mumbai next month for a 4-day trip. I would love to know about the best places to explore, recommended restaurants to try, and also the popular street food options.

I am planning to arrive on Thursday, flying directly from Chennai to Mumbai. I will be spending half a day there on the first day, as well as the entire second and third days. On the fourth day, I will be returning to Chennai in the evening.

Although we have finalized the decision to go to Mumbai, we are unsure about which places to visit for sightseeing. My friend has taken care of the accommodation, but if anyone from Mumbai could suggest an itinerary for sightseeing, it would be greatly appreciated. I have noticed that many people here are from Mumbai.

re: Seeking places to explore - Itinerary for Mumbai

I am not sure where exactly your interests lie for explorations but here are a few things to do.

Be at the Dadar chowpaty (not a chowpaty any more, but its still called that) during the evening to view that sun set over the sea link.
See the Mumbai Skyline from the Bandra Reclamation at night, then you can continue and experience the drive on the sea link. You may drive down to the town from there towards marine drive and have night street food at Bademiya or have a drink at Leopold Cafe behind the Taj hotel.
If interested you can visit the Elephanta Caves in the day, experience Marine drive in the evening. Visit National Park, Kanheri caves if you like caves and a small trek (avoid if its a weekend, place is too crowded especially if its weekend + monsoon)
Visit Juhu beach if you like, in the evening for a beach chaat.

For local street food, most of Mumbaikars have preference to places in their vicinity or near to the place they've studied.
For eg: when in Dadar, we frequently visited Aaswad or Gomantak for lunch/dinners, the Koolar cafe/Rama Nayak/ Mysore Cafe for snacks or quick chat with friends.
At times when in south Mumbai, I have pavbhaji at Sardar, Mumbai suburbs have their own different charm and food joints.

It also depends on where exactly you will be residing, because even tho there are multiple modes of public transport, traveling can get really time consuming or uncomfortable, especially in the monsoons.

All the best buddy!

I'm open to anything interesting or activities, such as boating or something similar, but not a theme park. I noticed a mini island near Mumbai in online, but I'm not sure if it's worth visiting. Additionally, I prefer to avoid very crowded places, but a slight crowd is acceptable if the place is worth it.

I'm also interested in spending time at nightclubs and trying out some of the best restaurants there.

I will be staying in either Siddharath Nagar, Vakola, Vicinity, or Juhu Tara Rd, Shivaji Nagar, Juhu. I haven't confirmed yet which one, but it will definitely be in one of these areas.

You didn't mention where you will be staying in Mumbai. Depending on that:

D1: Explore Mumbai nightlife !

D2: Book Mumbai Darshan AC Bus and explore the city

D3: You may book a car and explore nearbuy hill station like Lonavla

D4: You may explore places you liked on D2 more or visit South Mumbai, Beaches like Bandra /Juhu / Versova, Peace Pagoda, or the newly opened NMACC. The hop on hop off bus near Gatway during evening is nice.

You can check if ferrys to Elephanta caves are open from Gateway of India on D2. If yes that can be a nice one day trip

You can try High Tea buffet @Sea Lounge, Taj Mahal Hotel. My other favorites are Cafe Mondegar, Pizza by the Bay, etc

Thank you so much for the list, Here's my current plan, which includes the following list of places:

Gateway Of India
Taj Mahal Hotel
Ferry ride to Ghanpuri Island
Elephanta Caves
Marine Drive
Bandra-Worli Sea Link

This is what we have planned so far, I will watch the videos and check the locations to make any necessary changes accordingly.

I am also considering whether it would be worth renting a car or booking a cab to get around. Additionally, I am having second thoughts about whether there is a rental company that would allow us to pick up the car in Mumbai and drop it off in Goa. I thought it would be nice to have a drive from Mumbai to Goa and then return to Chennai via a flight from Goa.

I will be staying in either the Hyatt in Juhu or Vakola. The specific location is not yet confirmed, but it will be one of these places.

Juhu is a great place to stay. Regarding Ferry trips, make sure they are operating in the season you are visiting. I tried booking a private Yacht this month, but got turned down saying bad weather and was told will reopen after September.

Regarding mode of transport, I prefer public transport any day and most of the times my car remains parked in the hotel / friends place where I am staying. You will be hard pressed to find parking in popular tourist places like Gateway or be forced to park in a distance and walk all the way back.

I never used car rentals in Maharashtra as I have my car here, but have seen plenty of rental car options just outside Goa airport and within the city itself. But I doubt if one way trip is possible with them.

re: Seeking places to explore - Itinerary for Mumbai

So you arrive on Thursday, I would advise stay at Juhu. The Hyatt is about a 3-4 min walk to the beach across the road.
Explore the beach in the evening, dinner in and around Juhu should be easy
Friday morning rise up with the sun on the beach. Lunch in Bandra and explore the quaint areas of Bandra.
Sunset on Bandra Bandstand or from within Taj Land's End.

Saturday (if you can get) check in to a hotel in Colaba and explore the old Bombay, from Ballard Estate, Fort, Colaba.
Walk on Marine Drive during sunset.

Do have a meal at Kailash parbhat.
Dinner can be as per your choice, as this side of town has some excellent options to choose from.

Sunday morning sunrise at the Gateway of India.
A brunch around town (depends on your choice of food)

Keep traffic in mind and head early to the airport.

Offices would be closed on Saturday and Sunday so less crowds in that part of town. Tourists many, hence suggested stay there, to enjoy the peace and quiet when it's empty.
And if it rains, which it might, you don't have to commute back to Juhu.

This sunrise was clicked during the Cyclone Biparjoy

Enjoy your stay in Amchi Mumbai

Cool, I didn't know that I can book a private yacht there. I just googled it after you pointed it out, and I found it interesting.

https://www.leisurekart.com/activities/

Seems prices to be quite reasonable.

I came across this website. Is it safe to book online, or should I go there in person to check? Alternatively, are there any other websites ( trusted ) specifically for booking private yachts?

Thanks a lot for this itinerary; it's been super helpful. I'll make my plans accordingly and lock in my stay at Juhu Hyatt.

Actually these yachts are mainly for an evening of celebration like birthday, proposal etc. Leisure kart is one option, also many others operate through Instagram. You can find reference in any IG or YouTube videos.

However if you fancy being in water, why don't you plan a cruise, which starts from Mumbai ? After that these yachts feel like joke Sharing some of my videos of a 4N Mumbai - Lakshadweep - Mumbai cruise I did this April
