Bangalore to Nagarhole - Route query

Hello All - Please help me with the best route to Nagarhole from Bangalore and via Mysore. Last month I have travelled to Nagarhole but just followed the google maps. Didn't quite remember the exact route. Please suggest.

Re: Bangalore to Nagarhole - Route query

I am assuming by Nagarahole you mean the Veeranahossalli/Kutta side of the Tiger Reserve as Kabini is also a part of Nagarahole. Below are the best routes for both the destinations.

Nagarahole (Veeranahossalli/Kutta): Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Veeranahosalli - Murkal - Kutta. Except for the short stretch of 8 kms from Veeranahosalli - Murkal the rest of it has very good roads. This short stretch is inside the forest & is pretty bad but nothing a hatch back or sedan cannot traverse on.

Nagarahole (Kabini): Bangalore - Mysore - HD Kote - Handpost - Antharasanthe - Kabini. A small stretch till around 5 kms before HD Kote for a distance of 10 kms or so the road is infested by some intermittent potholes. It will slow you down a bit as you need to be watchful but it is nowhere as bad as the stretch from Veeranahosalli - Murkal that I mentioned above. If you continue to take this route further from Kabini via Balle - DB Kuppe - Mananthavady - Kaatikulam you will reach Kutta/Murkal/Veeranahosalli. The stretch from DB Kuppe to Mananthavady (12 KMS or so) is also in a pretty bad shape as it is inside the forest. Again nothing that a hatchback or a sedan cannot handle.

I do both these routes very regularly in a sedan & have no issues. From Udbur gate (just before Balle) to Mananthavady & Kutta to Veeranahosalli one cannot enter before or post 6 AM & 6 PM respectively as this is inside the forest. Ensure you cross this stretch during daylight as one can expect wildlife movement during dusk as it is their home & we are entering their land. Hope this helps.

Re: Bangalore to Nagarhole - Route query

Just came back 2 days ago from Nagarhole. From Kutta side to Hunsur, after the deviation towards Mysuru, the road is horrible. It was around 7 pm and since its inside the forest, little scary if something were to happen to the car.
Should be fine from Mysuru but little longer.

Thanks Torque123. Yes, Kutta is what I'm looking for. It's from the forest gate when you say 8 kilometers, correct? There is a rather terrible road section inside the forest, as of last March 2023 when I visited. Although I observed a few hatchbacks having trouble on those roads, my Ecosport, which I drive, pulled up smoothly. I will follow the route you suggested using gMaps. Thanks again.

Thanks PreludeSH. I am unable to see Nagarhole safari booking online. Its showing only Kakanakote. Is there any other website for online booking?

Re: Bangalore to Nagarhole - Route query

Its not showing Nalkeri point from Kutta side. When we tried booking, we were shown that there were no tickets for 2 months.

If you are staying in a resort or hotel, ask them to do it. There will be tickets available through them even when the website says there are no tickets.

Folks - Any recent travelers from Hunsur to Kutta? How is the condition of the road? Can a Sedan make it?

Google routed me through this two weeks ago. The stretch is plain horrendous. I was in my Jimny. Struggled a lot. Took me a full hour extra, thanks to gmaps. I had somehow missed researching this road, else, I wouldn’t have taken it.

Thank you. This route has always been horrendous. Never had a good tarmac since it goes through the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. I am trying to see if it will be manageable with a sedan or if the route is very badly broken. My alternate option option would be to drive through Gonikoppa.

Re: Bangalore to Nagarhole - Route query

Don't take the road which runs through Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, from Kutta when you try to reach other side of the gate for Mysore specifically after 5:00 PM, the last 8 Kms is absolutely horrendous.

It was really scary experience, as lone car crossing the place, with elephants and Wild Buffalos crossing the road. Inspite of driving a Sedan had to push through and get out at the earliest.
