It is great. One can fly. ;)

If you plan to return the same day to Hyderabad, start back around 4:30-5:00 pm from Srisailam. Else they will close the gates since it passes through the forest.

Thanks again :D We'll return on Sunday afternoon, so that shouldn't be an issue.

What are the timings for gate closure? Is it 6 pm to 6 am?

Is the forest stretch still having numerous speed-breakers?

And has the road been 2-laned all through?

I think they open at 7am and close at 7pm.

Forest is "No Entry" between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am. However, crossing the forest takes an hour or so and the officials manning the gates might not have their watches synced to IST, so keep margin.

We & another family are planning for a Srisailam Road Trip over the coming weekend (4th & 5th Aug 2018) from Hyderabad. Plan is to stay @ Haritha. Wish the gates are open and the roads are in good shape. Hoping to meet some BHPians there. :)

Hi All,

We are planning a trip Hyd-Srisailam-Hyd on the 4th and 5th of August. What caught my attention is during the day, Google maps suggest a route via the NH 765 (229 KM). However, on checking the maps in the evening, is shows a route via NH 565 (~350 KM). Any idea on this? We'll be travelling during the daytime and I'm assuming the former route will be safe?

Regards,
Shreyan

NH765 is the best option. 2nd best would be to catch Bangalore Highway from Hyderabad, continue till Bhuthpur (near to Mahboobnagar) and then take left to catch SH20. This option is around 30-40 km longer than NH765.

NH565 goes via Nagarjuna Sagar. If you plan to cover Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar then that's the route for you.

BTW, We too planning for the same dates (start 4th early morning and come back by 5th evening). We can form our own convoy during this trip :)

Hyderabad to Srisailam via Amangal, Dindi and Munnanur is the shortest and best. It's about 220 km one-way. Even while coming via Nagarjuna Sagar is not more than 300 km.

Reservoir level was 873 ft today 10 am. I don't think gates will be open as inflows were almost nil and outflow about 24,000 cusecs.

I don't know about the highway numbers but 376 km may be via Mahanandi? Not sure about it, though.

Entry into forest is barred from 9 pm to 6 am. However, if one enters by 9 pm, exit at the other end should be by 11 pm.

This post might help somebody who gets stranded in Srisailam. If you need a mechanic or a tow truck at Srisailam, you can call Saibabu - +91 9152548488.

I had to use his services couple of weeks back (related post), and can say he is a great guy who knows what he is doing!

Had an awesome 2 day road trip to Srisailam from Hyderabad. The roads are in superb shape. Posting few pictures from the trip.

Are there any good places to have lunch in Srisailam? I have been there thrice but couldn’t figure out any. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

There is a new hotel called Trishul. It is decent.

Hotel Trishul is the only best option, they serve delicious food.

Trishul is the only decent option that I can think of. :)

How is Haritha @ Srisailam now ?

Had some misgivings about the acco rooms during my last visit many years ago.
