Malpe to Madikeri

I dont see any separate thread on this subject and so am creating a new one.
I will be traveling from Malpe to Madikeri and as per google the trip will take 4.5 hours which seems a bit excessive for a 195 km journey.

Is the road that bad or is it very hilly?

Attached image shows Google reccomendation

Is there a better route ? Google is failing me very frequently now days and hence my question.

Re: Malpe to Madikeri

Take the primary route suggested. You will have about 5 -6 Kms of under construction road before Mani, else road is good.

Soon after your cross Mangalore, you will be on the hills. The slower pace will be more there.

Can you share what is happening with google maps ? Google not always being the best for routes is getting common. Hopefully others will learn from your experiences if you share.

Yes you are right. Roads were quite good. The construction slowed us down for a very short area and it looks like will be there for some time.

The road was very good except for the short stretch of construction. I was not noting speed too much but there was a definite slowdown once we reached the part after Coorg. It was maybe 30 kms of the 200 km route. The journey took about 4.5 hours as was predicted which included a very short lunch break and driving slowly before looking for a lunch stop.

It is difficult to pinpoint the exact issues with google. One is that it points you in very small village routes to make it the shortest route. The route shown from Brahmavar to Malpe was through a very narrow village road with place for one car. I cant imagine what would have happened if there was a car from the other side. One thing I am realizing is that if Google shows two routes and the longer one takes the same time or marginally more, it is better to stick to the longer one. The shorter ones are far more stressful because of either bad roads or village roads because of speed breakers. I find speed breakers the most stressful in terms of driving.
I wish google had a "least stressful" option
