Mumbai - Jaunpur (UP)

Hi BHP-ians,

I am also planning a road trip From Mumbai to Jaunpur(UP).
We will be travelling in our Honda City 5th Gen.

I have seen the suggestions on the forum, late between 2009-2012 route of Mumbai - Sagar - Prayagraj was a favourite for Varanasi.
And recently I have seen Indore - Jhansi - Kanpur route being the better one.

I could get a lot of suggestions for Mumbai - Varanasi as its a frequent route for tourists and well known place to non-locals.

Routes explored:
Route 1: Mumbai - Indore/Ujjain - Jhansi - Kanpur - Azamgarh/Jaunpur
Pros -
Can visit Ujjain (Mahakaleshwar ), have a relative at Kanpur whom we can visit and then reach destination.
Seems the route has gotten better from what I have read till now and saw a recent vlog on youtube (May 2022) that suggested this route.

Cons -
Old reviews of the route said a lot of construction was on going.

Route 2: Mumbai - Indore - Bhopal - Sagar - Prayagraj - Azamgarh
Route 3: Mumbai - Indore - Bhopal - Sagar - Katni - Rewa - Prayagraj - Azamgarh

Route 2 & 3 are both 120KM shorter and still an hour more to travel, so I assume the roads are either narrow or not good.

Also in the recent vlog on youtube, I saw route 2 has a few constructions on the route, hence can be avoided.
Route 3 seems the least favourite throughout the forum.
I have attached an image of my preferred route (route 1), and the alternate routes 2/3.

Apart from these routes, I see people have also chosen to go from Rajasthan to MP to UP which has a naxalite belt in between and also this is longest of all and hence not even considered.

My priority is to stay away from routes which are infamous for dacoits/loot, as I will be travelling with my parents. Any warnings, word of cautions are appreciated.
I have learnt that just like Rajasthan's Jaipur route, cattles can be menace in these routes as well.

I have travelled to Udaipur and Delhi multiple times and I can drive 800KM a day comfortably with short breaks. I will not be driving in night, prefer to stay and start early by 3-4AM using pit stops.

Thanks

Just a thought but not backed by personal experience, why not take this opportunity to explore the newly built Samruddhi Mahamarg? I know only Washim to Nagpur section is open but roads till Washim aren't bad I guess.

From Nagpur, you can go to up north via MP.

You may try to do Ujjain on day 1, stay in Indore and do Indore-Kanpur the next day.

Samruddhi Mahamarg is not open yet. Inauguration was postponed.

I saw this on youtube sometime back, may be it was Hormazd from Autocar. Although a tempting option but it look's a bit of de-route and as suggested by @Narayans80, if its closed then I am going to suffer the wrath of my parents

Absolutely, I am planning to take the first pit stop at Indore/Ujjain, If I am not able to reach Ujjain in respectable time, I will take halt in Indore else Ujjain will be first preference.
And 2nd pit stop at Kanpur, to take rest during night.
On day 3, I plan to cover the last leg of the trip from Kanpur - Destination.

Car Prep:
From emergency perspective, I will have my spare wheel air inflation checked along with the primary wheels.
Engine Oil, Coolant, Wiper fluid, Wiper blades are in good condition as the car has run only 6.5K till now.

Misc Tools:
A trekking knife
A stick, I am sure I wont need this, but just in case
A powerful torch
Towing Rope
Glass breaker and seat belt cutters
First aid Kit
RSA phone number
Coffee and Redbull

There's plenty of lists available for a long road trip and what tools to carry is really subjective, one can never be 100% prepared for adversities during a long road trip.

Thanks for the route suggestions, much appreciated.
Any other suggestions on what should be checked/packed?
