Not in my experience from last Sunday. An 86 kmph speed by me on the middle lane showed up as red on the speed readout near the camera but showed green on the next speed readout when I was on the rightmost lane which has 100 kmph limit.

The readouts are set to show up in Red for >= 80kmph speeds. The limit is 100kmph across the lanes (though lanes are marked in many places with 60, 80, 100kmph limits).

I have mentioned in earlier posts in detail based on my experiences driving on the Bangalore Mysore Expressway.

Note: Some of the speed sensors show 5kmph less than your actual speed whereas others show exact speed you see in the speedometer.

There are two such spots on this expressway, where the numbers are red even when you are around 100 km/h. The first spot is after the Paakashala restaurant while crossing Channapatna, and the second spot is before the Pandavapura exit point. I, too, have observed that speeds under 80 are shown in red on the right lane.

Lane discipline is a joke if there is some moderate traffic. People drive at 75-80 on the right-most lane. I kept cruise control at 104 when I travelled last time and was not fined (There is 5% relaxation for over speeding).

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I had my cruise control at 99 (yes!) for practically the whole stretch during a lull period in December. Closer to the Bangalore end of the express way, cops had a barricaded section and my car was flagged (looked like a random sample). The cop politely told me they will check (for speeding) on their iPad device and promptly cleared me to proceed.

You follow the rules and that road is bliss.

Totally agree. I set my CC to exactly 100 kmph and cover the expressway in a very predictable 75 minutes. My trip last Saturday (from NICE exit toll booth to the tea stall that comes immediately after turning left at the Columbia Asia junction):

Not a single fine so far. I check both mParivahan and the KSP e-challan site.

Casually checked the website (https://echallan.ksp.gov.in) and was shocked to see a fine of Rs 500 dating back to December 1 2024! There was no SMS received, No Image of the violation. Only description mentioned was violation of lane discipline at Siddalingapura and I never found the speed radar showing red when I cross too.

I did drive from Mysuru to Bangalore on that day and as always I stick to the middle lane and use fast lane only for overtaking.

Hence I seriously doubt if the speed limit is 100 kmph across the lanes but it would be as mentioned 60, 80 and 100 for respective lanes?

I would be surprised because it is almost impossible for most of us to stick to those lane wise speed limits given that we can have slow moving traffic on the right most lane and faster traffic on left most lane, after all traffic on our highways is so unpredictable!

Are you sure the violation isn’t for sectional overspeeding, meaning between 2 sensors your average was > 100kmph?

In my maybe ~20 or more drives on the expressway I haven’t been challaned. I don’t use cruise control but keep my speeds to between 90-95 kmph and usually on middle lane and use the right lane to overtake.

This is marked as Mudageri Gate, Channapatna on the KSP website.

Yes, I am pretty sure that it was not a sectional speed at all. Unfortunately I forgot to click a photo from the KSP website.

And this is the first time I am being charged fine on this highway too! I have been a regular on this route for all my drives to Mangalore and beyond which happens at least once a month.

Anyways, I paid the fine via website as I do not like to keep it pending and it haunts me. Moreover would have appreciated if there was an option to raise dispute as well which is clearly missing.

I agree. I drive to Calicut on average once every two months; outbound is usually via Mysore-Sulthan Bathery. About 25-30 return trips is my cumulative (post BMEW opening, that is). I set CC to 100 kmph as soon as I enter the EW; often I have to disengage it only at the two toll booths and then at the MRR junction at the far end. It is a very predictable 75 minutes which works out to an average of 94 kmph.

Point being, whichever lane I'm driving on I'm driving at 100 kmph with CC. But I've never been fined. Not even a single rupee on BMEW.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Isn't the fine Rs 1000 for exceeding sectional speed limits? I was charged Rs 500 here which makes me think!

You can send an email to <automationpubbcp at ksp dot gov dot in> to get pictures of the violation and you can also raise your concern.

*This works for traffic violations in Bengaluru city not sure if it works for the Mysore expressway too.

There are manual speed guns also, I think they have applied a local vehicle discount for you, so 500 Rs. Also you are less likely to contest a 500 Rs fine.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I observed a new startup on Bangalore Mysore express way.

The exit near the tolls are blocked now. Earlier people could exit just before the toll & merge back the toll. But even now, entrance is possible just before the toll booth.

In every such entrance point before the toll, a new gang has formed. These kind hearted volunteers/officers will assist vehicles to exit through the entry points at nominal charges (My assumption)

Even I observed some guys in uniform-may be posted there to avoid the hazard of people using exit points & entry points in the wrong way-helping motorists enter/escape in the wrong way.

Authorities can wait till a major accident-faced a few guys entering head on, on to the expressway-now I am cautious & avoid left lane near entry/exit points.
