Two things can be true at once.

Road and traffic safety is a combination of RIGHT & SAFE. If a situation ever demands a choice between the two, SAFE gets priority.

The bus driver's actions were wrong AND unsafe, the cam car may have been in the right but chose to risk an unsafe move, even though he had the choice to back out of attempting a pass there. Two drivers here could've acted to avoid the dangerous situation, neither did.

'But it wasn't my fault!' would've been scant consolation if the bus had collected his car and bodily harm had occurred to him and/or his occupants.

The catch is that the divider is just next to the high-speed lane. Whether he was trying to topple or distract the vehicles, the instant driver's reaction will be panicking. I drive at least three days a week, and my observation at night is that slow-moving heavy vehicles occupy the left and right lanes. The other drivers are stuck in the middle lane, and with so many cameras, there is a fear of crossing the speed limit, which is 80 km/hr. In my opinion, enforcing lane discipline is more important than speed limits. This highway is suited for speeds of 120 km/hr, provided KSRTC buses and other commercial vehicles follow lane discipline.

I have seen that right in front of Christ University, people have cut open the fencing, and people cross the highway to go to restaurants on the opposite side. I wish to know what the police and NHAI have done to stop this menace.
Then there are two cameras malfunctioning on the highway, one near Paakashala near Channapatna, the other one after the SR Patna exit. I have observed that even on a high-speed lane, the numbers are red if you are above 80 km/hr. Isn't it supposed to be green till 100 km/hr?

In today's paper there is a clarification from the police that he was not trying to 'topple' vehicles. It was a laborer who was decided to carry a wooden log across the highway and underestimated how big or heavy it was and kept it down at the median carelessly when he could not carry it further.

Of course, not sure if this is the right explanation and throws up its own set of questions. In any case I think the 'toppling' claim was an exaggeration by the dashcam car who posted it and it was enthusiastically picked up by regular media. Highly dangerous and could have caused a serious accident for sure, but a miscreant would have gained nothing by causing such a serious accident.

It was not a robbery attempt. Police revealed that the man was from a construction site and dropped the log accidentally.

Here is the details

Swalpa adjust madi saar, he was just trying to cross the road. The fact that it could have caused a multi car pile up and injured a lot of people can just be swept under the carpet.

As a car owner, you are expected to pay toll, dodge stones, anticipate dogs/cows, follow rules, leave way for politicians, drive through flooded roads and be prepared for anything else that is thrown your way.

Cops, Construction contractor, engineers, politicians, locals are all exempt from any and all blame

end of rant.

Looking at the image it is very clear it is near a city and that to looks like crowded place, someone should be too stupid to plan to rob at that place. It may be something else. In the scenario presented in the image, it should concern more about causing a serious accident rather than road robbery

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Solo Republic Day drive in my 13 year old British-German-Indian Growler.
Left at 0614.Reached Mysore Hari Govindas in the Ring Road by about 0815. Had a quick brekkie, left at 0840 and drove straight back.Returned home at 1031. A nice 307 km chukker to stretch the car’s legs. A in part one might say, an Italian Tune up.
Cruise Control more or less all the way. Set to 99kmph.
Perfect Sunday Morning Run.
The Expressway on the way out, was fog laden from Bidadi until Maddur. On the way back it was relatively empty.
I must say that almost everyone today was following the prescribed speed limits and lane discipline.
Really good that the speed cameras are up and running. The fear of being penalised makes our people drive decently.

Interesting and a brilliant idea to keep the cars in good spirit. I am going to take your cue and try this trip on Mysore expressway on Sunday mornings.

With the short runs in city and proliferation of Qcommerce, regular running has come down to such a low level that I worry about the health of the cars. And with the traffic that is, more often than not, we avoid going out unless really necessary.

Thank you for a simple yet fantastic idea.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Took the day off in order to take Dad to Mysore just for a bit.

Lovely drive. Unhurried. 730am departure. Didn't bother topping up the fuel tank as it was at 3 quarters.

Good disciplined driving overall on the NICE Road and on the Mysore Toll Highway. Except one or two folks.

Near Channapatna area there was a Raspberry Red Merc CLA (I think) which was pretty badly bashed around its front end. There were people standing around but no ambulances etc.

Stopped at the ‘New Maddur Tiffanys’ for breakfast. Its much much cleaner and better appointed than the old decrepit Maddur Tiffanys. Good food. Superfast service despite the large breakfast crowd.

Then Mysore and some internal here and there. Mysore town is simply so beautiful and quiet and peaceful and relatively traffic free. On a bright Spring/ Summers day there is a certain atmosphere and the bright sun and clear sky makes it feel like 1980’s Madras.

Filled some nice XP 95 and some additional Booster Juice. Stopped and had some tea and a light snack at Radisson and then drove back.

Express Highway was good. Quite empty. Decent discipline again. Except for the inevitable one or two ‘muggle-brains.’ There were two or three places where I had to ‘step on it’ to overtake but otherwise it was all fine and dandy on cruise control 99kmph.

As we were getting on to the Expressway at the Mysore end, (around where the Swad Restaurant is, on the right side.) we saw a Traffic Patrol vehicle parked and some cops around a scooterist who had entered the Expressway. Its good to see that they are enforcing the ‘No 2 Wheeler rule properly.’

We again saw that Raspberry Red Merc as it was being loaded onto a Trailer, on the way back.

NICE road is very nice overall. But there is absolutely no lane discipline. So one is always overtaking by force, on the left verge. Most irritating.

Anyway, Home and dry as they say, by 2pm.

The Little Red Carperformed very nicely and growled along with great aplomb. I think it is good to give it a solid consistent drive now and again, at a 99-100kmph for a longer and sustained period of time. A 318 kms run, door to door. Most enjoyable indeed.

I really love my Little Red Car and I feel so grateful to the Good Lord above that I could buy it when I did. 5 years and Counting!

NHAI closes the entry point to expressway on service road near Bidadi to stop people from avoiding the toll. What about the one on service road at Srirangapatna?

The Gananguru toll is about 25 km from the expressway end. This stunt will only help in negating all the time gained by taking the expressway, there. At the Sheshagirihalli toll the end of expressway is less than 10 km.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Yesterday there were a few insane folks driving approximately 130 - 140 kmph on the expressway towards Bangalore. In the leftmost lane even! Hoped they got fined big-time.

Also folks driving 80 kmph and below on the 100 kmph lane requiring passing them at 90 kmph or so on the 80 kmph lane. I think they should stop these 60, 80, 100 kmph lane based restriction and just set a general 100 kmph top speed restriction on all lanes. Less scope for confusion.
