Can we please know where/how did you get to know about the fine on your car? Was it collected by the cops at toll booth right away?

Heard that you will be fined even if you are caught at 101 km/hr.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

The monitoring and fining was active since June and they have integrated the SMS notifications.

Heard couple of false positives:
1) License plate MJ was read as HJ and car which was at home was fined instead of 2-wheeler (₹1000 for speeding).
2) The camera doesn’t recognise light coloured seat belts and fines for not wearing seat-belts (₹500).

Just came back from Mysore round trip yesterday. I think, may be I am wrong, the speed limit (and fine) is as per the lanes. 101 kmph on the right most lane is OK but not on the left or middle lane (speed limit to 80 kmph). Not sure if slow moving (less than 100 kmph) on right lane gets them any fine.

Also, another thing that I noticed was the speed displayed in the screens/LED boards was generally 3 to 5 kmph less than the actual speed displayed in your car. While my speedometer displayed 99, the LED screen displayed 96 and 94. Same is the case on NICE road.

BTW, some regular users know the placement of these cameras and speed up in between them for example elevated section over Maddur and before the 1st toll both from Bangalore side.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I am fine with the strict fining for even hitting 101 kmph. However, I hope they also fine slow moving or heavy traffic on the right most lane.

One of the biggest reasons for speeding in left/middle lanes and criss-cross driving in the highways ( leading to accidents) is slow moving vehicles hogging the right lanes.

***I think I mentioned this in an earlier post - some of the speed camera sensors display 3 to 5 kmph less than what the speedo in the car shows and some show almost the exact same number as the car, so be careful. I’d recommend trusting your speedo and keeping speed to 100 or less always.

I don’t know if they’ve enforced lane based speed limits, it really doesn’t make sense in our country since we have idiots zooming at 100+ on the leftmost lane and other idiots going at 50kmph on rightmost lane!

Similar site: https://echallan.ksp.gov.in/ was posted on X by ADGP Alok Kumar asking to use this for checking fines in all of Karnataka except Bangalore. I checked and to my shock, saw a INR 3000 fine for 'Mobile Phone use when Driving'. I was in that route on the day mentioned, (No exact time and location- Just the camera location-Mandya), but definitely did not use the phone at all. I did take a bite of a long bun a couple of times and looks like the AI Camera has decided that I was on the phone.

Couple of folks have posted that they have been falsely fined and his response was to reach out to the Traffic SP's. I don't know how I can reach out to the Mandya Traffic SP for this. Trying to identify the contact.

Also thought to pay it off while I fight it to avoid and complications. Payment got deducted and the page errored out. Hoping it gets reversed. Ironically this is not showing up in the parivahan fine check.

Folks using the highway regularly, please check this site to see if there are fines flagged. https://echallan.ksp.gov.in/

Thanks, got one now!! Drove yesterday with utmost caution after seeing the past few posts. Locked cruise and maintained 100kmph through out the drive, but alas, I think it caught me for lane speed limit, as I was on middle lane most times. Scared to stick to right lane and use that only for over taking.

Now need to strictly stick to 80kmph looks like, if on middle lane. Going to be a sleepy drive.

This is going to be tricky now with gazing your eyes between road and speedometer; you need to bring down the speed to 80 and then switch to middle lane looks like.

This is not good. The speedo itself is shown higher than the real speed (GPS speed) in most cars, so this positive "error" on top of it means it is safe to stick to 90kmph. This explains many cases where challan was issued while the speedo was way less than 100kmph.

I don’t know if they’ve enforced lane based speed limits,...
I have done 3 trips recently on this road, and found the displayed speed to be correct. However, I dont know if the check & display system is updated to the speeds reported in the papers. In this situation, I'd rather go with limits displayed on the boards along the highway.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I have been in this highway multiple times a month. Usually speedo meters have positive error of 3 to 5kmph from actual. I cross checked with all my cars, there is not much error on the speed cameras. If you are above 80 in left and middle lanes, you will be fined

If you are using right lane, its 100kmph only if you are overtaking, and its only for HMV so try avoiding the lane unless you are below 80. Challans are mostly done for people going above 83 kmph.

Put your cruise at 78 and relax!

Those regulars are wrong, the AI cameras can do both Spot and Sectional Speed. ADGP Alok Kumar explains that clearly and his chart shows both spot speed and sectional speed. So there is no escaping by just slowing down at cameras

He explains "Over speeding is normally measured as spot speed near camera point Sectional speed is the average speed between two camera points. Even if one slows down near cameras but drives fast elsewhere the driver will be booked."

Another thing I observed, at a few places the camera is placed where there is a descent. So naturally when you are doing 99 kmph, you tend to go a couple of Kmph at least when the road is down this is enough for the government to extort money and fill their coffers.

On my return journey, I was extremely careful and did not cross 80Kmph anywhere and I stuck to the middle lane. The other motorists were driving like lunatics. There was one white Scross which changed lane from extreme right to left at a very close gap since he wanted to take the exit for a hotel.
There was another maniac in a maruthi suzuki eco who braked hard just because he saw a speed camera, thankfully the Creta behind him was at a safe distance and was able to change lanes, else it would have resulted in a fatal crash.

Also, not all speed trap cameras have speed indicators. Some are just cameras , some of them front facing and some are rear facing.

Were you aware that these were sectional speeding cameras? Its written in many places in Kannada \ English.

They are taking your vehicle`s picture and then checking what time you are arriving at the next camera. So this is a difficult fine to get out of.

Set 100 on cruise control and you`ll be just fine.

I was aware of the camera, could read the notices too. I did not intentionally speed anywhere. Must have been caught on camera while on a downward road.

Question, how do out of state cars get fined? I saw many out of state cars zipping past me as though the world will end in 90 minutes.
