re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Can anyone suggest halt(s) along the express highway in either directions where a decent joint is right in between an exit (from highway) lane and and entry lane? I am willing to forgo preferences if I can avoid travelling kilometres along the service road to get back into the main lane

There are lot of eateries that have popped up and continue to do so exactly at the exit points which enable you to exit and enter immediately. Not sure of the quality of these, but if the intent is a basic stop it should be ok. Amaravathi next to Mandya bypass exit is a larger setup, I think you can get back in also quickly.

Taking the ramanagara exit to kamat and then rejoining at channapatna barely adds 10mins to the drive time. That is still my go to option if I have to stop on the expressway.

Yes Amravati is a few 100 meters from expressway exit (on the way to Mysore). To return to expressway you have to come back and take an acute left turn to get onto the South bound carriageway.

Any idea how many locations does the speed check happen?

I am of impression that that at max you can encounter two -
One on the Bangalore - Mysore direction, between Chanapatana and Maddur.

Another on the Mysore - Bangalore direction, between Ramanagara and Bidadi.

Asking since noticed only the second one, in Bangalore direction last weekend. Hence was wondering if its the same vehicle which goes to both the location.

I think it's the same , depends on which direction the traffic is likely to be in a hurry. After a long weekend even on Wednesday you can expect them towards Bangalore.

They can even station themselves on the overpasses and communicate via radio to flag down the driver's.

Please don't get me wrong here. Let us go back a little before the ranting.

Expressway was conceptualized so that the users can travel at good speed and reach the destination faster. How many of you remember 33 humps between Bangalore and Mysuru?
Total travel time was anywhere from 3 hours and up.

So, we did anticipate a faster way to travel between Bengaluru and Mysuru and vice versa .
Eateries were never part of such a short highway. Aim was faster travel.

Even, after the express way, nothing has changed
The villagers wants to have their say. They said speed is the reason for accidents, whereas the reason was open fences. These open fences were used to start tea stalls and unauthorized eateries.

Now, the speed limit is 80 Kmph. There are unchecked village roads merging with the expressway. The total time to traverse the distance is just above 2 hrs.
Difference is , we are paying 350 Rs for this.

In the end they started calling it national highway.

If you think twice, you will know what had actually happened.

This is sad state of our system.

Since this is no longer an expressway, why is it even fenced? Open it up like any other highway is, its up to the motorists to watch out for whatever is on the road like anywhere and everywhere else on earth.

If I was in that village, I`d be pretty annoyed with not having access to the other side if adequate underpasses are not provided for tractors, people as well as animals .

Speed limit is 100 but its not because of tea shops or open fences - which they are still - you can buy garden supplies, tea \ coffee, fix your puncture, have tender coconut etc on the expressway itself - look for it and you`ll find it - so back to the speed limit, it is now 100 because some experts looked at the construction, the bends, the way traffic merges and exits etc and decided that it does not meet the standards!

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Any of you found the speed breakers protecting the toll plazas a challenge to negotiate. I had huge belly scrapes at the toll plazas on both the mysore leg and the return journey to Bangalore. It is so disheartening to see the lack of thought in simple usecases. Due to it being a narrow lane protected by concrete walls, the option of straddling it sideways was also lost at the breaker.

The other heart in the mouth moment was a big blow to the wheel, while in the leftmost lane on the mysore bangalore leg where the road had broken off creating a step discontinuity. I came at a good clip and the left wheel just crashed into this. Am sure this has casued some damage to the wheel. Need a thorough check. Please be careful.

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Did anyone else observe that when we drive in Bangalore Mysore expressway we are more strained than usual?

Irrespective of day or night this road is becomming another nightmare for road users. People overtaking from all lanes, few driving in between the lanes as confused souls, few driving in overtaking lane at steady 50kmph speaking on the phone, someone suddenly realising that there is a tea shop on left and deciding to stop for a chai break!

To top it all, few pay the toll at both the place and majority of the users choose to drive in service road and merge into the expressway/highway post toll booth, use the road and exit before the toll booth!

Question to those who travel to Mysore or beyond on two wheelers. Considering the ban, what has been the preferred route. Go along the service road all the way? Or use alternates like Kanakpura Road or the Pandavapura route for those in that area?

I agree... It was nightmare yesterday evening, not seen such bad and unruly traffic even during the extended weekends.

The speed check is mainly by the Maddur Traffic Police (part of Mandya District police). The interceptor vehicle is from that police station. The other 'highway police' mobiles does not do speed checks, even though I saw them at two places.

This is really bad. I bemoan this, especially since we all pay our taxes and then buy cars from the tax-paid money, paying more taxes and GST and Road Tax and all that when we buy such cars. Then we pay healthy amounts of tolls to use these roads which are supposedly anyway built using the taxes we pay.

And then we are let down like this; literally with a sickening thud. And we have to pay for repairs. And GST on top of that.

I despair whether we will ever be able to see honest improvement in our country in this lifetime.

My experience with the same bike on this road, I would avoid next time for sure!
