Indore to Bangalore : Route Queries

Hi Guys,

I am travelling to Bangalore in next 2 days from Indore and wanted to know what could be the best route.

Duration: 3 Days Maximum.

Here are couple of routes I am planning

1. Indore - Solapur (stay) - Bangalore
2. Indore - Pune (Stay) - Bangalore
3. Indore - Shirdi (Stay) - Chitradurga (stay) - Bangalore

Vehicle: Polo Petrol 1.2L

Requirements:
1. Looking for a good road preferably a very good high way.
2. Good Stays on the stay location.
3. Good breakfast, lunch and dinner joints.

I am planning to start early in the morning, 4/5 AM and hit the destination so that I don't have to travel in evening and traffic hours.

Anyone has a good experience on this route, do help.

I would suggest Option 2 for a comfortable journey.

re: Indore to Bangalore : Route Queries

Option 2 is the best, if you can get your timing of Kolhapur-Pune and Pune-Nasik sector correct.

Option 1 works only if you know how to time Kannad. Dhule-Chalisgaon is meh. Beyond Kannad it is great with much less traffic to deal with.

Option 3 is the worst of the lot. Malegaon-Shirdi-Nagar is sub-par without any real advantage in traffic. This option is a no-go unless you are thinking of Sai Baba darshan enroute.

Can you tell the correct timing to hit this area?

Plan your travel to reach by night, or you can consider coming towards Udgir and then take Hyderabad-Bangalore route. Once upon a time I used to travel from Indore to Bidar via Aurangabad and Udgir by bus in a 24 hours journey.

Assuming you have not travelled yet, you can refer to this thread (Pune - Indore : Route Queries) for Indore-Pune options. Indore-Nashik-Pune seems to be the best option based on the last update in the thread. Indore-Shirdi-Pune is also a good option but the roads between Shirdi and Ahmednagar used to be bad. If you start from Indore by 4/5 a.m. you can easily reach Shirdi by noon. Irrespective of Indore-Nashik/Shirdi, please be on the lookout for a number of huge speed-breakers on the highway before each village and the ghat section in MP.

For Pune to Bangalore you can refer to this thread (Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries). The first post has a list of petrol pumps and eateries listed. As per a friend who travelled last week from Pune to Bangalore, the roads are pretty good. There is some road work going on as you get closer to Bangalore, but he said it was not an issue. Pune to Kolhapur in the early morning should be fine. Roads are not the best because of the snail-paced 6 lane work going on between Pune and Satara, and as you get closer to Satara, Karad, Kolhapur etc. there will be plenty of local traffic. So just be mindful of that.

Bangalore- Indore Route query

Hello everyone, I have to drive from Bangalore to Indore next week. Google maps suggests: Bangalore- Vijaypura - Solapur- Aurangabad- Dhule- Indore.

Has anyone travelled on this route recently? Concerned about the road conditions in light of the heavy rainfall that Maharashtra has witnessed.

If this route can be taken, any suggestions for family friendly restaurants etc. for bio breaks, and also reliable fuel pumps?

Thanks,
Ajay

Absolutely reliable.

Apart from the last update that Ampere has quoted, the highway has only got better including completion of Vijayapura Bypass, Sholapur Bypass and Aurangabad bypass. This is as of April 2022 when I last drove.

It is only Aurangabad bypass end Kannad Ghat Chalisgaon Dhule that remains undone and hence singlecarriageway (as of last week).

While fuel stations are aplenty, you will really need to plan your food breaks due to limited options.

Will provide a list of such places in some time later today.

Entire highway remains in excellent condition, despite the rains. So condition of roads itself should be your last worry.

As mentioned earlier, the choices to break are limited on this highway. Although fuel stations, including COCO stations are plenty on both sides, eateries are very limited, especially from Chitradurga all the way till Sholapur, you really need to plan your stops.

The good development now between Sholapur Osmanabad Beed Aurangabad is that a lot of new places have come up that I noticed in April.

For restaurants that are family friendly and clean rest rooms, you can pick any of these although consistency is not something even I have noticed, especially with few of these.
  1. Anand Vihar - Between Chitradurga and Hospet
  2. Nandagokula Veg - Between Hospet and Vijayapura
  3. S-Lounge - Vijayapura Bypass (Attached to a superstore)
  4. With Sholapur bypass now functional, you avoid getting in here for breaks
  5. MH25 Food Mall - Osmanabad Bypass
  6. Hotel Pandurang Veg (Before Indapur)

Here are some of the fuel stations you can rely on, including COCOs and Reliance:

IOCL COCO - Vijayapura Bypass

Reliance - Between Vijayapura and Sholapur

HPCL between Sholapur and Yedashi

Assuming that you will be taking a halt at Aurangabad, you can fill up in the city and then drive to Indore.

Aurangabad to Indore again is not a section where you will have options to stop by. The Aurangabad to Dhule is a dry stretch with not much choices to stop.

With a very small detour, Dhule has this excellent option to stop-by and take a lunch break called Oregano that can be worth considering.

Seems all good restaurants are in the same stretch in Dhule . We had at Orchid little ahead of Jhankar Palace.

Beyond Dhule, Foodie at the entrance of Dhamnod is very good.

Marked this place in Sendhwa bypass, but not tried personally.

These 2 are before Bijapur bypass

Reliance pump 2 km before Bijapur bypass

Bijapur BPCL COCO (Hospet direction)

Thanks. Are the reliance pumps operational? Was reading about how private players are jacking up prices to dissuade retail sales as they are making losses. My planned hotel stay in Aurangabad is next to a petrol pump, so the idea is to due a tankful while checking out from Aurangabad. I get around 900kms range on my car with my driving style- reaching Aurangabad from Bangalore without refueling might be a touch and go, hence looking for refueling options- would prefer direct access from the highway so that I can use the bypass instead of getting into service lanes a few kms before. Looks like there should not be a challenge to get a pump to top up some fuel to reach Aurangabad comfortably.

re: Indore to Bangalore : Route Queries

With the holidays approaching, I'm planning a trip to Indore from Bangalore and cover both Ujjain and Omkareshwar.

For the onward journey, I'm planning to drive down to Nagpur on 24th December and take a break on 25th December at my in-laws. On 26th, I plan to drive from Nagpur to Indore.

We plan to stay in Indore for next 2days and start for Bangalore on 29th December. So, I was considering doing a direct run to Bangalore and not via Nagpur.

So, Gmaps suggest this route: Indore - Dhule - Aurangabad - Osmanabad - Solapur - Vijayapura - Chitradurga - Bangalore. Distance is about 1350kms as per Gmaps.

I wanted to know how are the road conditions across this stretch, particularly Indore - Solapur stretch.

Also, would Solapur be a good option to take a night halt on 29th December.

I'm driving an Innova and would have my family along, including my mother (65years) & 2 kids (9 & 5).

Regards
Saurav

  • Indore to Dhule : Good dual carriageway roads
  • Dhule to Chalisgaon : Single carriageway & OK road
  • Chalisgaon to Gallerborgaon : Work in progress roads, denser traffic due to slow moving trucks in ghats
  • Gallerborgaon to Aurangabad : Good 4 lane roads
  • Aurangabad Bypass to Sholapur : Excellent roads
  • Sholapur to Hospet : Excellent roads, speed breakers around median breaks
  • Hospet to Tumkur : Excellent roads
  • Tumkur to Bangalore : Usual roads

Hence, in terms of road conditions, you are mostly sorted and the only iffy part will be the Chalisgaon Kannad Ghat section which has been that way now since a decade.

Regarding night halt, a lot would depend on the time you start your journey as Indore Aurangabad alone takes anywhere between 7.5-9 hours. Further, Aurangabad to Sholapur will take an easy 5-6 hours. So, in case you are planning to halt at Sholapur with a start from Indore, you are actually driving 12 to 14 hours at a stretch.

I would say, take a break at Aurangabad (loads of good choices to stay) and next day start early for Bangalore. Aurangabad to Bangalore leg witnesses very less traffic on the Sholapur Vijayapura Hospet route and hence it wont be as stressful as Indore Aurangabad in terms of navigating dense traffic.
