Thanks mytbhp_turbo for the input ! I went to Nashik from Baramati on 25th December. I had to attend a meeting at 10 am so had a early start - 5 am. Route suggested by Google maps was Baramati - Kedgav Chaufula - Shirur - Alephata - Nashik. The road till Kedgav is good, I could maintain speeds of 70-80 kph. Kedgav Chaufula to Shirur road is single carriageway, with no proper shoulders, road level is uneven and lots of truck traffic and sugarcane carrying trolleys. Also the road is filled with potholes, so that made progress slower. After reaching Shirur - Kanifnath temple on Pune - Aurangabad highway, maps suggest a left turn to join the highway, continue for 1 kilometer towards Pune and then a sharp right turn at Hotel Raigad Palace, Saradwadi. Continue on that road for about 5 kms towards Ramling and then it's straightforward road to Alephata and then towards Nashik. However the maps decided it was time to play smart and suggest me a shorter route (time saving, not the distance one) and rerouted me through some village roads ! That was a bit stressful as there was no signal, and I had to ask locals about directions Alephata to Nashik highway is in good shape, I faced no traffic at all. Only after I reached outskirts of Nashik, I caught up in some traffic, but it was moving. Total time I took was about 5 hours. If one wants to avoid traffic bottleneck at the Manchar, Narayangaon, then this route is good. But I'd suggest start early from Pune and go via the highway only

Re: Pune - Nasik : Route Queries

Rode towards Bhimashankar and roads were lovely. Some good updates -
  1. Manchar bypass is ready and is quite nicely done. Good for top speed runs.
  2. Rajgurunagar bypass is ready as well. Some work is going on if coming from Pune. It’s complete in direction of Pune.
A bottleneck as usual-
No prize for guessing that Chakan signal is still the major bottleneck. There was a huge congestion at 7am morning yesterday. Sadly no alternatives planned for this(apart from a dedicated expressway), I suppose.

Nashik travel queries

I am planning a trip from Pune to Nashik in the first week of March. I have two days and the night in between at my disposal.

At Nashik I wish to
1) Visit Trimbakeshwar. Besides the obvious darshan, I also need to search for the Upadhyay of our clan. The time take for this search could be anything. All I have is a name.
2) Visit Bhagur to take darshan at Veer Savarkar's birthplace.

Google tells me, Pune Nashik would take me ~5 hours.
I plan to start early, visit Bhagur and then drive to Nashik on day 1.
After staying in Nashik that night, I will visit Trimbak which is ~1 hour away.
Hopefully I am able to trace the person and after meeting him I will be driving back to Pune.

Any advise/suggestions on the following is most welcome
1) Is my plan correct or are there any hindering circumstances which I am not aware of.
2) Any recommendations (OYO?) for overnight stay in Nashik, preferably on Trimbak side? I definitely need clean rooms and secured parking.
3) Any recommendations for food in Nashik as well as Trimbak? Only pure veg please.

Thanks.

We'd done a similar trip last year: started from Pune around 7am, visited Veer Savarkar's birthplace / childhood residence by noon, then onwards to Nashik via Deolali.

Note that the roads once you exit the highway towards Bhagur aren't great. Ask locals rather than rely on Maps once you're closeby. Also, depending on which day / time of day, you might find parking right in front of his house, else might help to park away and walk / take an auto. (very narrow lanes).

Thankfully, the vada is well kept and maintained, the person in charge might also share some history. Do check the various books they have for sale.

We'd stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, do check if that suits your trip plan. Very reasonable room rates.

Re: Pune - Nasik : Route Queries

Dear All,

For travelling from Pune (Magarpatta) to Nashik, google maps is suggesting 2 routes.

1. Pune>>Chakan>>RajguruNagar>>Naryaangaon>>Alephata
2. Pune>>Shikrapur>>Malthan>>Pondewadi>>Belhe>>Alepha ta.

I read from this thread Chakan and Rajgurunagar are major traffic jam prone areas.

Could you please advise which route should be the preferred when starting from Magarpatta City, Pune ?

Chakan definitely has traffic but the delay is not more than 10 minutes. Just make sure not to pass this around 9-10 AM or 6-8 PM.

Rajgurunagar no longer has any congestion due to the new underpass.

Re: Pune - Nasik : Route Queries

I recently did Pune Nashik. It has become much more stress free now. Almost all major towns have bypass operational. Ale Phata is the the only one pending that too towards Pune. This will also be complete in a few months. In between Sinnar and Nashik there are lot of bad patches and dangerous potholes. The only major pain point left now is Chakan.

Re: Pune - Nasik : Route Queries

I rode towards Nasik couple of times recently. Apart from the usual traffic and bootlenecks, there have been further addition of speed breakers on once fine patch between Khed ghat and Manchar.

It can catch you off guard if there is no prior traffic built up. Caution is requested.

Re: Pune - Nasik : Route Queries

The once fine patch between Peth and Manchar bypass is being concretised which has thrown traffic out of gear.

I anticipated this while going towards Nasik to enter Samruddhi eway and experienced the same first hand yesterday evening while coming towards Pune. I will advise to avoid that patch during rush hours which will make Chakan traffic blush.

It took me an hour to cover this patch of 2-3 kms
