Aradhya Grand (opposite side of the road when travelling from Bangalore)

Maiyas (along with a few other joints as a Food court. Also has a Shell outlet alongside)

Woody's (opposite side of the road when travelling from Bangalore)

VVR Anand Bhavan (no relation to A2B; also on the opposite side)

Sree Krishna Grand (opposite side of the road when travelling from Bangalore)

Nandi Food Plaza (opposite side of the road when travelling from Bangalore)

None of the options on the "opposite side of the road" are difficult to get to - usually just a short U turn.

Yes, McDonalds is there. I don't think KFC is present in the Highway star food court , which also has Shell Petrol pump & EV charging point.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Hi,
Planning for a Bangalore to Chennai drive. Intent to start at 5 AM from Bangalore.

Doing this route for the first time. Tried to scan this thread for details, but thought of asking this as a straightforward question to avoid misunderstanding the route (at the risk of asking the same question again )

Being unfamiliar route, can you please suggest the best route for this Bangalore - Chennai and then return journey?
This would be with a sedan and family included (So prefer to have good restaurant on the way)

Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Vellore-Sriperumbudur-Chennai both ways. This is a metro-to-metro route with a large number of regular commuters; you will not have many issues. City edge to city edge this is about 300 km and will take approx 3-3.5 hours driving time. Rest within city travel is based upon your timing and luck.

Problem spots for the first-timer:

1. The exit from NH 44 to NH 48 at Krishnagiri is easily missed. The trick is to cross Krishnagiri toll booth and then count flyovers. The exit is between the second and third flyovers and is very poorly signposted.

2. Till Chennasamudram toll you have a brilliant 6-lane road. Beyond that it is 4-lane-to-6-lane-works-started-then-abandoned-courts-got-involved road. Be very careful. It is frustrating but alternatives are worse for the first-time driver.

3. Do not drive into Poonamallee town from the highway directly. Go along the main highway for a bit more and you can bypass this town, entering the city via a minor road near Saveetha college.

Also:

4. Google Maps is your friend.

5. There are several restaurants along the way. There are 3 A2Bs before you cross Hosur, at least 2 more before Kanchipuram. There's a rather popular Sai Sangeet at Vaniyambadi. Most people have their own personal favourites.

6. In the return direction - the route to enter BETL elevated road from Hosur stumps many people.

Take the Hosur - Krishnagiri - Chennai route. Good Roads upto chennasamudram and then lots of diversions till Chennai.

Sai Sangeet is good hotel after Vaniambadi.

If starting from areas in East Bangalore, you might like to consider the Hoskote - Chittoor - Ranipet - Sriperumbudur - Chennai route.

There is a separate thread for that: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route...e-queries.html (Bangalore, Chennai via Chittoor : Route Queries)

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Did a same day round trip from Bangalore to Chennai and here is the report

Route
Bangalore North - Madiwala - Krishanagiri - Sripeumbudur - Poonamalle

Drive
Onward Departure : 2:50 AM
Arrival : 8:30 AM
Rest Stop : 10 mins

Return Departure : 7:05 PM
Arrival : 1:10 AM
Rest Stop : 30 mins

Avg Mileage : 21.3 Kmpl (Diesel)
Speed : 100 kmph on cruise control and between 70 - 90 when manual

Road conditions
Electronic city to Hosur : Dual carriage way with OK surface but can be a nightmare in peak traffic times

Hosur to Krishnagiri : Decent dual carriageway but watch out for wayward bikers and lorries pulling out of pitstop

Krishnagiri to Vellore : Excellent 3 lane highway(except around Ambur where there can be traffic jams)

Vellore to Sriperumbudur : Lot of road construction happening and there are too many diversions. However the diversion roads are decent with no major potholes. Way better than Bangalore city roads.

Sirperumbudur to Ponnamalle : Dual carriage way that has OK surface but can be a huge nightmare for most part of the day. I am yet to find a timeslot where there is not much traffic here. Lots of intersection that cause traffic pile up during peak hours.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

If the destination is in South of Madras, one can skip the sriperumbudur tollgate. There is a right turn towards oragadam, which gets to Tambaram. That route has some stray cows, but is rather peaceful to drive.

This was a perfect breakdown. Thank you so much.

Road conditions from Chennai to Bangalore via Chittoor were not as bad as I expected. Ranipet to Chittoor had maybe a 5km stretch that was underwork which wasn't ideal, but I didn't have to go below 60 or 70kph. Chennai to Ranipet was the usual slog with the road works and abnormal traffic patterns.

I did Ranipet to Whitefield in under 2.5 hrs of drive time.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Those who are targeting Tambaram-Mudichur-Manimangalam road. Please be aware there is a 2 km long road work on the Manimangalam direction. This is between the Bypass and Outer Ring Road junctions.

So the workaround is to take the Kishkinda Road-Outer Ring Road to avoid the stretch. You might have to pay toll on the Kishkinda Road-Mudichur Road stretch though.

Another day, had taken the Singaperumal Koil-Oragadam-Sriperumbudur stretch on a Sunday. Its a peaceful journey end to end. Two things to watch out are the barricades at Oragadam outside DICV and one other plant. Some small potholes at Vallakottai.

The railway bridge at Singaperumal Koil end is still under construction. On real bad timings, you might get stuck for 10-20 mins (normally 2-3 min)

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Had the opportunity to try SH120 after 2 years. The route is now 4-laned, all the speed breakers are dismantled. You can now enter/exit from the Bangalore bound side without entering Sunguvarchatram town.

There are 2 villages where the road is still 2-laned.

I wouldn't advise anything above 80 here. Near Tenneri left lane is with filled with rice husks. Few kms before there was Animal Planet happily relaxing in the fast lane

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Cross posting the chittoor route update

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route...ml#post5296029 (Bangalore, Chennai via Chittoor : Route Queries)

Completed Bangalore-Madras-Bangalore trip in last 4 days. As usual took chittoor route both ways.

Roads between Sriperumbudur to Kanchipuram is unsafe to drive in dark, as active work is going on in full swing in both directions. Especially towards the right side high speed lane, as there is deep pit in most places where median was present.

Otherwise, the road conditions remains the same as per earlier updates. Road surface for about 1 to 2 kms in front of Chittoor campus of vellore CMC is not there (from Ranipet to Chittoor direction). There are few potholes around Ranipet Sipcot and the railway underpass.

On a positive side, from Sriperumbudur , i took Chembarambakkam-Kundrathur-Anakaputhur-Pammal-Pallavaram route and the road conditions are excellent. There is not even a single pot hole in entire stretch and is very good surface.
