Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Has anyone tried applying for a TN epass recently.
I have been trying since last 3 days to apply for a pass and it shows an error when clicking on next from the first page.
What will be result of not getting one and traveling?

A friend did travel this week > BLR-MAS-BLR. They were not able to find the correct option when applying for ePass.

They have completed the trip, and no questions asked/no stop for checking.

Try using a different browser.

For not carrying the e-pass, they charge 200/- fine.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

I travelled from BLR to Chennai and back on 1st and 2nd July. Through Chittoor.

BLR to Chennai: Left 9:30 AM, reached 2:30 PM
Chennai to BLR: Left 1:30 PM, reached 8:30 PM (Heavy rains with DARK clouds)

Nowhere I was stopped or asked for any passes etc. I saw some policeman just watching ongoing vehicles but no serious stop and check.

If this helps anyone...

Similar experience today via Hosur. Cops just watching every one go by. One very annoying part was that the Ecity flyover was closed. Am not sure if it was because of the weekend curfew or not, but that is just is a waste time and clogs up the road below which is a point less move.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

The earlier TN Govt notices used to clearly say Inter state travel is allowed only for medical emergency and deaths for which an epass will be issued.

However the latest one just gives a list of activities that are prohibited and clearly says everything else is allowed.

I believe that means as of today there is no need to take a epass or covid test to cross into TN

Better to take an e-Registration just to be on the safer side. The directive doesn't explicitly mention about interstate movement, so its ambiguous whether previous status quo remains or not.

RT-PCR was never a requirement for TN entry.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Completed Bangalore-Madras-Bangalore trip in last 4 days , both via Chittoor route.

On 2nd July Friday - Left Bangalore C.V.Raman Nagar at 2.30 pm and Reached Madras Vadapalani at 8.30 pm, including 20 minutes tea break in Nandi Plaza, Bangarupalyam.
Mild rains/Very dark clouds between Mulbagal till Palamaner. From Bagarupalayam till Ranipet, very heavy rains and from Ranipet till Sriperumbudur again moderate rains.

On 5th July Monday, for Return journey, i had bank work in Nanganallur and Pallavaram. After finishing that left Pallavaram at 2.45 pm and Reached Bangalore C.V.Raman Nagar at 8.45 pm, including 30 minutes break at Murugan Idli shop before Chennasamudram toll plaza. Noticed that Hotel Saravana Bhavan in NH after Vedal/before Kanchipuram is closed which was a surprise. Not sure if they closed the business permanently or temporarily due to covid lock downs.

As i mentioned in my previous posts few months back, we have 99.5% good surface roads. Only in two places we don't have good surface roads for about half a km or so - First one in Bangalore-Tirupati bypass junction for half km and second one near Chittoor collectorate office after taking right from fork road towards Ranipet.

Otherwise, the road conditions are decent (with couple of diversions , but not at all a reason to worry). For people in North and East bangalore, from a road condition perspective, Chittoor route outweighs the reason to travel via Indira Nagar/Ejipura/Koramangala/Silk Board/EC/Attibelle/Hosur traffic.

---------------------
Route Experience in my return journey.

From Pallavaram, i just followed the google maps and it took me via Tambaram, Mudichur road, Mudichur. After Mudichur, it was directing me to take right and go via Manimangalam, Sriperumbudur. I ignored it and instead went straight towards Padappai road, Oragadam. Then it directed me in Automotive corridor towards Vallakottai and then took a left inside SIPCOT via Royal Enfield factory and finally dropped me in NH4 near Dell factory office near Sunguvarchatram.

I regretted taking the route via Mudichur road and Mudichur as it was very slow even at 3 pm in the afternoon off peak hours and also again directing me towards not-optimal route.

In the past when i took Padappai, oragadam route, i simply go via Walajabad, via Varadaraja perumal temple inside Kanchipuram town and join NH. My attempt to experiment different route to avoid Walajabad-Kanchi town didn't worked out well yesterday.

I remembered about the Military road that @narayans80 sir used to refer, but was unable to find it in Gmaps to skip Kanchipuram town. Overall, i felt, it took me 30 minutes more which i could have saved.

@narayan sir, can you please share the Military road which has less traffic and best route from Oragadam to join NH4 skipping the traffic towns?

-Ravi

No doubt you are frustrated. Mudichur road is worst. Period. But, I believe you would be convinced with the padappai- oragadam- dell factory road. Its a nice 6 lane except for a small stretch near Padappai town and near the Dell Factory. The better option is go until Vandalur, take the flyover to join the Padappai- Walajabad road. I started taking this road from Tambaram for the past three years. Though its longer, saves lot of fuel and importantly peace of mind due to sparse traffic.

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

Saisree,

As of Christmas 2020, Walajabad-Kanchipuram road was in tatters. I wouldn't take it unless someone says the 2-laned section is resurfaced recently. If you have Google Maps on with any destination on the NH past Kanchipuram (Murugan Idli Kadai for example) and took Walajabad-Kanchipuram road, it'll automatically take you through Military Road.

During pre-Covid days Tambaram-Perungulathur-Vandalur used to be a mess. So Tambaram-Mudichur-Mannivakkam would be faster even with those 2 dozen speed breakers.

Otherwise you have to take the overhead intersection after Perungulathur towards Walajabad. It is clearly marked and you won't miss it.

I think you were ok until you took the left at Sipcot. After seeing the disastrous condition of Walajabad-Military Road. The route I took then was Vandalur-Oragadam-Vallakottai-Sripermbudur bypass. Its not the fastest, but you get 4-laned roads throughout.

Agree with you. Last year, when i drove from Guduvanchery to Bangalore, i took the route via Vandalur and it was simple and good. Padappai-Oragadam-Automotive corridor U turn towards vallakottai-SIPCOT roads are in very good condition. No complaints on the surface. However, i don't think it is shortest or best optimal route. I could be wrong as well, if there is no other choice. The only other choice is to head straight from Oragadam towards Walajabad/Kanchi.

@narayans80, can you please plot the start and end points from Oragadam to Military road to Murugan Idli shop and share the GMaps link?
For me, it didn't show the route and i could not make out where is the military road?

Maybe for good reason. As mentioned above, in December it was in bad state which probably isn't repaired yet.

The route I am talking about is this. There is a left just before entering Kanchi town. There is a Murugan wedding hall immediately after you take the turn, which is the waypoint I've added. This will take you all around Kanchi crosses Palar you take a right on the road from Vandavasi and join the NH at 76th km milestone (first exit towards Kanchipuram coming from Bangalore, second is below the bridge at 72nd km, last is at 67th km)

Thank you narayans80. So we still have to cross walajabad and only by-pass Kanchi. If the roads are good, i think, it is still a good option

That is correct. The only thing is to evaluate is the traffic times for the 9 km stretch between Walajabad and Military Road turn

Re: Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore : Route Queries

We're planning to take this route to travel to Chennai from CV Raman Nagar, Bengaluru in the next couple of days. Is there an E-Pass mandate in force to pass through Chittoor/TN Entry?

Thanks in advance!
