The Best Roads In India

It was the worst stretch of road i ve ever seen in my life . Did that journey on sep 25th 2008 . Took us more than 6 hours to reach kundapur from manglore. Please inform me the present condition of that road .

1) Nothing can beat the Manali - Leh stretch of 450 odd kms in terms of sheer driving pleasure, scenic beauty and photogenic vistas - not to forget the feeling of cutting through some of the world's highest mountain roads or speeding along on the 40 odd kms of straight road at Moore plains.

2) The first 30kms of NH1A starting from manali moving towards kargil - amazing road and even better vistas, with the indus flowing in tow. The road was freshly laid when I was there in June last year. To top it all - park your vehicle in neutral on the road at the magnetic hill and watch it defy gravity.

Can't choose but my choices in no particular order are:

1) Mumbai - Pune Expressway
2) Panvel to Goa - Green Carpet lined roads in the monsoon.
3) Mahableshwar route from the Goa highway side.
4) Kullu to Manali
5) Manali to Rothang pass
6) Baroda to Ahmedabad (Expressway) - Fastest Road in India.
7) Manor to Navsari (Surat) Scenic and good roads.

...Palm Beach Rd WAS very good once but not now
1. Many Red signals between sanpada & belapur

2. Many Towers have come along & thus Vehicular traffic has increased much , and during peak hours it happens to be "CIVIC" speed and Urban Traffic pattern over there

3. Due to palm beach Galleria Mall cluster entire Length from APMC to Vashi has become a 2, 3rd Gear affair

Plus there is LOT of traffic Joining You at Sanpada

4. Definately its a good road , Maintained , proper Pole lights and can be used for Speed testing, Rings run-down and things as such

The ones I really enjoyed driving on are:

Shimla-Bhavnagar (Smooth curvy roads)
Kalpa-Chitkul (Steep, narrow, curvy & rocky roads with gorges alongside)
Kullu-Rohtang & inside the tunnel at Aut (The tunnel just keeps on going n going)
Powari - Jalori Pass (Climb baby climb, 800m to 2800m in not much distance)
Ajmer - Pokhran & Jaisalmer - Khuri (Long straights, smooth roads & very less traffic) - Driving to Khuri late night and watching the headlight beam cutting through the extreme dark is amazing.

Mumbai-Pune Exp.
Baga beach - Arambol beach via Mandrem beach (Smooth, curvy roads with ghat like sections)
And of course, NH1

It used to be good but lately I hear that that road is full of potholes.

Some good roads that I have done are
1.NH from rudrapur to nainital.
2.Chennai Pondy ECR.
3.toll road quality roads is the SH from Hampi to Raichur.
4.Bangalore - Chennai thru Krishnagiri.

And on same breath, the worst road in India would definitely be NH between Guntakal to Bellary.
