I could not make this trip due to COVID. Will have to see when things will come back to normal and make it happen.

My friend and I did a road trip from Bangalore to Varanasi ( 8 day journey ) in September 2021 . We took the Bangalore - Hyderabad - Nagpur - Jabalpur ( NH43 ) and then Jabalpur - Rewa - Prayagraj - Varanasi ( NH30 and then AH1 ) . We returned through Varanasi - Mirzapur - Rewa ( NH135 ) - Jabalpur ( NH30 ) and Jabalpur-Nagpur-Hyderabad-Bangalore ( NH43 ).

The overall distance covered including some deviations for sightseeing was about 4000 km . We drove in a Hyundai Creta 1.5 Diesel Automatic.

We took 3 days for each leg of the trip with night halts at Hyderabad , Jabalpur and reaching Varanasi the third day evening .

Road quality is excellent most of the route except for a short distance on the Hyderabad highway where work is going on ( near Kurnool ) and near Rewa . Rest of the road is mostly 4 lane and from MP the road is concrete and beautiful .

The route via Prayagraj ( Allahabad ) we took to see the Sangam and this route is NOT advised as the traffic becomes very messy after you enter the Prayagraj road and the city bypass is also a little confusing . The Return route via Mirzapur is the best . We covered Bangalore Hyderabad (550 km ) in about 8 hours , Hyderabad Jabalpur ( 800 Km incl deviations ) 11 hours Jabalpur Varanasi ( 600 km incl deviations ) 10 hours.

This seems to be the most optimum driving option to Varanasi from Bangalore . There are very few good restaurants between Hyderabad and Jabalpur , but found a good Kamath hotel on the outskirts of Nagpur ( slight deviation ) . Advice is to ask for packed lunch from the hotel you are staying and eat on the way.

Overall we had an enjoyable journey with no asks for Covid test or questions throughout in the borders. The car AC gave us trouble in hot afternoons and has to switch off AC for 10-15 min for cooling to work again . Need to get this checked up at Hyundai .

A Quick note that I missed - From Hyderabad to Nagpur the moment you cross Maharashtra border the road is filled with very deep Potholes and you need to be careful . This stretch goes on for about 40 km and will slow you down . After that the road becomes good close to Nagpur and then into Pench national park road is exceptionally good .

Completed this route this Saturday-Sunday.

Day 1: Bangalore-Seoni. Started from Bangalore at 3:30 AM and reached Hyderabad ring road entrance in 6 hours. After break started form Hyderabad around 11 and reached Seoni at 7:30 PM. Roads are mostly good throughout. Patch work is completed between Hyderabad and Nagpur and there are no major potholes.

Day 2: Seoni-Varanasi-Patna: Seoni to Rewa roads were good. Rewa-Mirzapur-Varanasi is mixed with some good stretches and some under construction. Started from Seoni at 5:30 AM and reached Varanasi bypass around 1:30 PM. After a long lunch break started from Varanasi at 3 PM and reached Patna by 8 PM. While returning will try Varanasi-Prayagraj-Rewa and post an update.

Update on Road condition between Hyderabad to Varanasi traveled 2 weeks back

Hyderabad to Nagpur.
Good 4 laned some rough patches close to Pandarkawada took the Nagpur bypass

Nagpur to Jabalpur
4 lane throughout all Ghat sections complete. Khawasa has a toll booth now.

Jabalpur to Rewa

4 laned throughout Katni and Rewa has dual laned bypass.

Rewa Mirzapur Aurai.

4 laned throughout Road works are going on close to Lalganj very short stretch of 10 kms

Aurai Varanasi
6 laned expressway

While going from Hyderabad went through Mangawan and Prayagraj as the road condition between Hanumana and Mirzapur was doubtful.
.Mangwan to Prayagraj heavy lorry traffic.So better to avoid going to Prayagraj and then to Varanasi.
Return Journey through Aurai Mirzapur Hanumana Rewa Jabalpur Nagpur was faster and less of traffic.

While coming back I took Prayagraj route from Varanasi. Roads are definitely better compared to Mirzapur route but it's slightly longer and goes through some stretches of densely populated areas. Overall it might take 15-20 minutes more. If good roads are your priority, it can be a good choice.

Need some travel info -

Planning to drive in my seltos Dieset AT with wife and two boys (5 & 11) from Bangalore -Varnasi - Ayodha - Agra - Mathura - Haridwar - Rishikesh.

Return trip

Rishikesh - New Delhi - Indore - Ajanta Ellora caves - Solapura - Bangalore


Planned dates May 5 - 15 (approx)


Request some advice/tips on the route to take/avoid.

We'll be driving to Assam from Bangalore in a Thar. There will be 2 thars, each vehicle will have 2 drivers.

A straightforward plan is as below
1. Bangalore to Nagpur : 1100 kms
2. Nagpur to Varanasi: 900 kms
3. Varanasi to Siliguri : 700 kms
4. Siliguri to Nagaon: 550 kms

While this is doable with 2 drivers, it absolutely leaves no space for any leisure. Can someone help improve this plan and provide two plans

1. A 5 day plan from Bangalore to Nagaon on the same route
2. A 9 day plan from Bangalore to Nagaon ( with a bit of sightseeing around Garhpanchkot near Asansol Singalila, Neora, Jaldapara and Cooch Behar ) using the same route
3. Any alternative route to this too is fine too.

Priority
1. Stressless highways
2. Good food places
3. Safety of travelers.
4. Some, even if minimal sight seeing.
5. 4-9 days max one way.

This will be in the winter months.

Via coastal route, this is as below, but I have done the coastal route before, so looking for something equivalent and without compromising on safety and not getting into undue stress.

1. Bangalore to Vijayawada
2. Vijayawada to Bhubaneshwar
3. Bhubaneshwar to Garhpanchkot
4. Garhpanchkot to Siliguri (Purnea route and not Malda route )
5. Siliguri to Nagaon

Has anyone done this route lately? Any update on Nagpur - Varanasi section or is the same old route still valid?

The post below says Nagpur to Varanasi ~900 kms but Google maps shows 728.

Just around Mirzapur byepass there was confusion due to road not fully done + diversion and all. Else it was mostly straightforward.

Bad patches near to MH border remains.

Folks, One query. I see both of you quoting ~900 kms / 15 hours but when I check Google, the distance seems 726.

Am I making a mistake?
