Chirala is a decent place too

Another option would be to book the APTDC's Suryalanka Beach Resort at Bapatla and stay there. Bapatla is again pretty close to Chirala.
Even thought Chirala is not a big city like Guntur, its a business center. I will be surprised id you can not find decent accommodation there. It will not b a bad idea ti pick up some good cashews there.

::Welcome To Srisaila Devasthanam :: enables you to book different types of accomodation (hotel, cottages) Hotels referred to by PVS in this thread are decent and have great views. The Satyam cottage is the ultimate though

Vijay Vihar is a lovely place to stay at Nagarjunasagar. This you can book through APTDC

We did that in Dec, 07. The ghat road that descends from Srisailam to Dornala was simply superb, and quite scenic too.
You will need to turn left at Dornala, and left again after some distance to proceed to Sagar via Macherla. One could even visit Ethipothala waterfalls that are located around 15 kms before Sagar.

You can stay in chilakaluripet and drive to Chirala to see the vodarevu beach, there is resort thing in chirala named Sip and Dip Cottages, 850/- per day , if its a all guy gang go for it , Strict no for FAMILIES , it was more of a guest house for .... you know what I'm talking about , in fact there is another beach called Ramapuram beach near chirala, which I was told that very good and there is Resort which was looking decent and much better than Vodarevu.

best bet would be SURYALANKA beach resort you can find my travelogue at http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ch-resort.html

Adios

My friends used to mention to me the STC (tobacco company) guest houses along the coast are good for "you know what I mean". These guest houses are apparently available for booking (or probably by paying the keeper there) when they have no company guests. I am not in to it much so never had a first hand experience.

The pics were really beautiful in your travelogue.

Uma Maheswaram temple is located on the way to Sri Sailam, about 140 km from Hyderabad. We went there last Sunday and it turned out to be a proper monsoon trip accompanied with some nice drizzle.

Before reaching Munanur there is a diversion towards right which goes to Rangapur village, and onwards to Achampet. At Rangapur there is a left turn which leads to the temple after about 4 km.

A view of the wet roads and monsoon clouds.

A view of the valley. You can see the snaky road at te bottom. There are a few hairpin curves just before reaching the temple.

Watch out for the monkeys near the temple. This one was watching us having prasadam.

the best thing is to book the Suryalanka beach resort , and have a great time with the family, for weekends book it a week earlier to be on the safer side, the reason we had to go to chilakaluripet was that we couldnt get the cottage for Sat.

This was our last weekend getaway to Medak and Pocharam. Medak is around 85 km on the Dundigal highway and Pocharam is another 10 km from Medak. There is a church and fort in Medak.

Roads are pretty good and only a few small stretches have potholes. Lots of greenery on the way.

Thanks! Pictures were taken by my wife.

I used to think there are not many places to see around Hyderabad. But this thread has changed my opinion. Now we are trying to cover all the places listed here!

hey, a few more options:

Drive down to warangal on the NH 202 - From there head towards Narsampet and onwards to Pakhal Lake; it is deserted with no facilities - but you can spend some moments of silence there - head straight from there to Bhadrachalam - you'll reach by evening - check into APTDC tourism hotel or another good hotel on the main road (forgot the name) will let you know - pm me if required.

Have a darshan of Sri Ram at the Bhadrachalam temple. the next morning either head off to Sri Raamgiri about 70 Kms away for a boat ride on the Godavari to Paapikondalu Hills (You will get back by evening to Sri Raamgiri) or drive along the road to Chinturu and beyond to the Sileru hydroelectric power station.

I had done this trip on the route mentioned - but could not beyond Chinturu..

The road from Warangal to Bhadrachalam via Pakhal and Illandu is good- single laned amidss thick vegetation - you will like it.

Some more destinations from Hyderabad

Some more weekend destinations (which I have done during my stay at Hyd):

i) Tadoba Wild Life Sanctuary - See link below where all necessary details are well documented by GR. (Hyderabad-Tadoba - Welcome to Business Standard Motoring)

I did this route at night in 2005. There was very less trafic in the state highways. Regarding accomodation, best place to stay is at the Government Hotel within Tadoba WLS. It is advisable to book in advance.

ii) Manginapudi Beach - Very isolated beach with even fewer tourists. We managed to take the qualis as close as 20 fet from the waves.

Route we did : Hyderabad -NH9-> Vijaywada -> Machhilipatnam -> Manginapudi

Accomodation - No facilities at all in Manginapudi. We paid 200 bucks and stayed in a villager's house. Better to be based at Machhilipatnam (IIRC, 14 kms from Manginapudi)

iii) Day Trip to Gundala Rocks.
(The Hindu : Andhra Pradesh News : Picturesque Gundala chosen for hydel plant)

We came to know about this place from another article in Hindu. Sorry, but I have forgotten the details of the route we took. Only thing I remember is that we took a right turn from NH-7 just before entering Kurnool. And then had to ask the locals a lot of time to find the place. Was a very scenic route through cultivations, rivulets, canals etc once we left NH-7.

In summer, the Krishna river bed is mostly dry revealing the awesome rock formations. You will need to walk/trek/climb through these rocks for one or 2 kms to reach the krishna river which falls through a small gorge.
The last few kms are not motorable by car. Our bullets made it till the edge of the rock formations. Also we took a local villager/shephard as guide. Otherwise it is very difficult to trek in the right direction through the rock valley, towards the gorge.

Also note that there is no provision for food, tea shop etc. This is a very interior location.
